Had a 2nd go. As you can't half tell, have a massive dislike 4 ruckman other than Cox, but at 600000, mids are better value

Backs - Hodge, Goddard, Carrazzo, Embley, Mackie, Houlihan, Hill, Suban, Petrenko

pretty good team however, maybe downgrade one of your 500k+ mids to a cheaper option and use the money to upgrade your rucks.

Now my team :

Backs- Fisher, gilbee, cornes, birchall, malceski, raines, grimes
Mids- Judd, Burgoyne, Selwood, foley haselby and rich
Rucks- Fraser and Ottens
Fwds- Pavlich, Deledio, j brown, stevie j, vespremi, higgens and skipworth.

emergencies- suban, rance, robinson, swift, currie, trengrove, gumbleton and grant

Because the Magic number reduces by roughly 10% by round 8...

So, if a player averages 100. You pay 540k for them at seasons start. However, by round 8, a player averaging 100 will only cost 500k (roughly)... a 10% loss (roughly)

Say we have 600k to spend.
You buy a rookie and a 500k keeper.
I buy two 300k guys.

Now in your eyes, the 90k rookie is going to be worth 400k and be a piece of cake to upgrade.
In your eyes, the two 300k guys are going to need to be traded.

In my eyes- what if they average 85? or 90?
Suddenly, I'm up on you. because as you said, I've done my homework and found some 300k guys that can increase in value.

Meanwhile, I've got my bench stacked with the cream of the crop- so while you're playing the good rookies, and have your bench stacked with the second best- I've got my bench stacked with good rookies.

The thing is, they're both valid strategies mate. But they both require a simple rule. Do your homework.
walsey m8 how long u been doin sc for?
i would have to say i have listen to ur advice the most since ive been doin sc.
good onya and keep the advice coming helping alot,

Croad will be lucky to play round 1. He's not likely to play to mid-season.

Naitanui has had injury problems during the off-season and is no certainty to play round 1.

Ellis has had injury concerns in the off-season and will be underdone by round 1. Ellis is more of a trade upgrade during the season than a round 1 selection.

IMHO, Cousins is overpriced. It's a gamble. If he picks up 30+ possessions a week, you'll be laughing but if he pings his hammy in round 1, then you're in strife. There are other options at his price range.

Just my 2c.

made a few changes.. what you guys think now

Not too bad. Couple of points.

McPhee can be hit and miss. At his price, look for other options.

You're wasting money on Bailey. He won't be up and running by mid-season and he'll be lucky to play a game for Hawthorn this year.

Is Yarran a lock for round 1? I'm not sure.

Taking a gamble on Raph Clarke and Koschitzke. I would be looking at other options there. Watts is completing Year 12 this year as I understand it, so he's not likely to feature all that much and key position forwards tend to take longer to make an impact anyway. Cordy is a bit the same - can't see him making a big impact for the Dogs straightaway as he's very skinny.

Again, I think Cousins is a risk for the price you're being asked to pay. Hentschel is making a comeback from some major surgery - who knows if he'll be the same. Riewoldt is injured at the moment and will be starting slowly in round 1, IMO.

I'd be looking at putting Petrie in the ruck, if you don't want Cox and changing your forward line structure.

Looks a really good line up to me. Can't really fault it at all. In fact I will be basing a lot of the changes to my team on this line up. sorry lol. very even across the board. What would your suggestions be for my team in particular the back line, to keep a consistent line up but add a gun in there as well?

Ive been watching this thread over the weeks and I have to say that this is my favourite side picked. very even through out , the only dodgy one I can pick is Hasleby but who knows he may suprise me. well done mate

Ah well this comes as a suprise, I didn't expect someone to base their own team on mine.

I just updated my team mate with a few tweeks if you want to look at that as well (it is the post before your one.) For a backline I just picked 3 guns first and got that sorted then worked around it, if you can get Cornes in there as 1 of those guns it is a good idea as he is pretty cheap compared to the other ones so you can save some money there to spend on getting the rest of your defence in order.

Def: Shaw, C Cornes, Malceski, R Houlihan, Raines, Petterd, Hill (McNamara & Rance)

Still tweeking but....

Haha yeah ive got about 5 or 6 saved with slight differences.

Funny about Mark Williams, im sure i rememeber him starting a bunch of threads late last year saying he had no idea about sc and wanted everyones opinions on everything... anywho i think the idea of this forum is for people to bounce ideas of each other and if you agree you'll generally keep in mind when making your own selections, if you don't well you can either flame them or preferably give your opinion on why you disagree and further discuss what would work better.

Disclaimer. I'm not trying to start up the whole JM v MW thing again :D

LMFAO! Love the disclaimer mate! :D:thumbsu:

But you were right about #6 MW last year asking everyone for advice and then flaming everyone this year. No need for that.

Seeing as though I was told my previous team would be reamed I will have a 3rd attempt...

B - Embley, Gram, The Chad, Mackie, Malceski, Houlihan, Petterd (Grimes, S.Hill)

M - Judd, J.Selwood, M.Murphy, Watson, Masten, Rich (Dangerfield, H.Hartlett)

R - Sandilands, Trengove (Currie, Meesen)

F - Deledio, R.Murphy, Didak, Stevie J, Porplyzia, Higgins, Skipworth (Yarran, Gumbleton)

$54700 remaining

I believe I have a good balance of players to cover injuries. Might tinker with the excess $$$ for a ruckman come round 1.

Some feedback would be appreciated.

Tried to put a team together based on likely price rises (with the exception of a few premiums)!

450,000 still in the bank, and, obviously will use to strengthen forward or mid (but finding it hard to decide which of the mid's is the lesser investment)

Im also interested as to why no-one has Petrie in ruck, my understanding is that this position should be locked in from the start (and hopefully no change required for the year).

Very good team, mate. My only concern is starting Suban, and Gumby on the field. Though if you keep an eye on the NAB games, I'm sure you'll be able to ascertain the bargains that will start round 1. Great effort.

Spose I just couldn't get over your backline and midfield plus Cox and 3 500+ fwds, but I guess your rest of your Fwds and rucks are pretty risky. Nevertheless if your clever with your trades early and get some luck that we all ask for in this game you could set yourself up for a good season

anyone care to comment on my team i posted a bit earlier?

Good work, as pumpychow states, doubts on suban and gumbleton (didnt rate him last week). Skipworth great!, Keep an eye on Higgins Adcock and Pendlebury could go either way. love raines and malceski. Nice stuff for this early stage. More rookies and first years will present prior to round one.
