Lycett is a serviceable ruck when he’s fit.

We continually play him hurt and he gets destroyed. A fortnight ago it was “he may need surgery, at least 4weeks” to missing 1 game and coming straight back in.

Guys been a warrior but he can’t stand up to the rigours of afl week to week. Best we can hope for this year is to get him fit for finals and hope he lasts.

In the meantime we should be playing Hayes when Lycett isn’t 100%

Even though we won 13 in a row it wasn't a dominant 13, it was largely a gutsy, grinding 13. So to throw in a diabolical performance like that - on top of the two similarly diabolical performances immediately prior to the 13 wins - makes you wonder just how good we actually are. In other words, our losses appear more damning than our wins appear reaffirming, if that makes sense.

The biggest concern though is the draw. The next 3 are very, very difficult. We could play outstanding footy and lose all 3. And after that it's GWS and Freo away, neither of which are simple assignments. A lot can and will change but you probably wouldn't tip us to win any of those games except GWS if they were being played today, and even that would be line ball.

Daddy is going to need to pull a rabbit out of the hat because things could go awry very quickly for him if there isn't a massive improvement on yesterday and fast.
Really? the crows were ratshit last night they are just travelling, we'll hammer them.

Suggestions we lost the game due to selections are laughable and ill informed. We simply have s**t depth, a ruckman who is barely serviceable and came up against a white hot team on their home deck playing for their season.
I’m pretty sure we picked a team trying to win, but the plan backfired.

Lycett came in because we lost Dixon. We didn’t want to be too inexperienced with both Hayes and Lord. So, Hayes was dropped.

The other omissions happened because they weren’t playing well enough. We didn’t want to give them “golden tickets”.

We were bold. Perhaps, we were too bold. I’m not going to complain against that, even though the result was bad.

Boldness is good. Just learn from the experience and move on.

If you think we're getting that version of the Crows in their home Showdown you are sadly mistaken. It's pathetic on their part but for quite some time now Showdowns have meant way more to them than us.

Their midfield won't improve with magic beans, playing Collingwood beforehand win or lose is a good tune up.

The only positive that I see is the national media got to witness what we have know for a long time - Jonas is cooked and captain or not he has no place in the team.

Hopefully that sinks in and they can stop bringing it up as if it is some kind of ruthless call not picking him.
The Vic media have witnessed Jonas being regularly destroyed for more than 2 years now, they are either as thick as bricks or more likely just don't give a fat rat's clacker about highlighting the obvious deficiencies of the captain of an interstate team.
I suspect that as unlikely as it would have been he would have been appointed captain of a Melbourne based team (particularly one of the big 4) his deficiencies would have been called out a long time ago.

Coaches will always try and exploit the weak links in the opposition and if he retains his spot for the wobbler's game, which given the time frame for McKenzie's recovery is probably likely, the end result could be even uglier than last night!

Hard to watch. Exposed a lot of weaknesses. We've been up for a long time so not surprised we lost this one. But the way we were thrashed was concerning. I just hope there's no internal conflict among the coaching staff with their new roles. The players have been brilliant since R4 & a pleasure to watch so I hope they can recharge before the finals. A tough few matches coming up with our disgraceful draw.

The competition is very even.
The media love talking about Collingwood being this elite dynasty type side, but even then they've only won 6 games by 5 goals or more and have won 4 games by 2 goals or less. Contrast that to Port who have also won 6 games by 5 goals or more but have won 6 games by 2 goals or less.

When you keep winning, irrespective of the margin it stops becoming a coincidence.

I agree with you though that the next 3 games are crucial to defining where they will sit on the ladder at the end of the season. Even if they just win 1 it will give them a.grear chance for top 2. Lose all three and they're in big trouble.

Don’t mind that we lost given the outs that we had and a number of those were forced outs which disrupted our structure. Not many teams loose their key back, key forward and a key midfielder all in the one week and can replace them.

The issue is how we lost though. We reverted straight back to the port of the last couple years and our ball movement and structure completely fell apart.

We were exposed down back in an area we know has been weak for the best part of 10 years. The fact we don’t have 1 single key defender on a list of 40+ from the reserves that is ready to step up and fill a hole as needed is pathetic. Bang on about it for years and for years in end we ignore it and get caught out. If we are missing either Mckenzie or Aliir come finals, we’re likely straight sets exiting.

Will give Lycett the benefit of doubt that he was rusty on return as before his injury he was playing some decent footy. If he’s poor again next week though, we’re in serious trouble as it means he’s still carrying that injury and likely will for the rest of the year. With only “1” competent ruck on the list, again if he’s injured come finals we will be ran over.

Thankfully we have games up our sleeve and Melbourne winning is a god send to keep a 2 game gap there.

No, they absolutely hyped themselves up to beat gws last night. Rory the third's 250th, back at home again, Saturday night. That was just the best they could muster.

Far worse than our usual s**t treatment after finishing 11th (despise the Afl with a passion). Someone in high places hates us is my guess.

I still don’t understand why the AFL didn’t go for Bot-6 v Bot-6, Mid-6 v Mid-6, Top-6 v Top-6.

The 24th round makes sure the mandatory doubles can happen regardless.
