Dizzy was focussed on Curnow (fair enough), de Koning dragged Oscar away and Lester wasn't deep enough.

It's not a strength of ours. Getting Doedee in for Lester will be a big improvement
Yeah Lester really cost us last night. Bwahaha. You are more obsessed than I am. šŸ˜‚

Iā€™ve had enough time to cool down after the loss, and I definitely feel Iā€™m more rational about it now. Still incredibly frustrating, but for some reason we are always terrible in opening round, and itā€™s better to have that happen now than later on. Losing Kiddy sucks, but again, Iā€™d rather have an ACL now then later in the season, as it gives us more time to adjust, and means Kiddy should be back by first game next year.

Think we need to keep him on the wing or on the ball. Looked out of place in a big way last night.
Bez goes best when you give him a run with job. He didn't seem to know what he was supposed to be doing last night. His disposal has always been iffy, let's hope last night was just first match rustiness. Those loopy kicks into attack just got picked up far too easily.

So he gets a mulligan? Iā€™d give Prior a run before I would play Berry next week. If there are no consequences, whatā€™s the point? Is Fagan going to wait for Berry and Payne to ask to not be selected? šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Bez needs to do better.

Don't know what to make of Payne. Perplexing performances in the practice games that he doubled down on last night. It's important that we get Payne right but what needs to be done for that to happen I don't know.

I desperately want Berry to come good as heā€™s such a good human with such a good story, but he really needs to start producing less of what we saw last night if heā€™s going to stay in the 22 long term.

We need to get him into a position he doesn't have to overthink. I think this is why him tagging or playing inside works - just needs to win the pill and get it to someone else or blanket his opponent from doing the same. Black and white role.

Defensive wing works too, but definitely got exposed in the GF

Totally agree re Berry. He needs a defined role where he doesn't have to overthink it

I was interested to see how the guys who let us down a bit in the GF responded in their first chance to impose themselves better and tbh that was an underwhelming aspect for me.

It's only game 1 . We lost by a point. So looking for better this week

I thought it started in the second when because we had control of the game we just kept pumping it in indiscriminately thinking a goal will have to come out of it sooner or later then letting Carlton in for 2 quick ones . The momentum had shifted well before the 3rd. We spent a lot of tickets with some lazy footy . Then didn't put in enough or think our way through situations when the tide really turned.

Let's face it . It was poor coaching if the players were responding to instructions.

Granted the coaches aren't responsible for the sloppy set shots.
I was not happy with Lachie taking Zorko's roll of getting involved off the ball. Learn to fall over and get the free.

His shoulder won't stand up to prolonged inside play.

Defensive wing has to be his role.

As I mentioned earlier on in another thread, Berry is a not a smart footballer. He can't read the play, he is too slow to react and his disposal isn't up to scratch. The only position he can play is a hard tagging role on an opposition's midfielder, where he can be led to the ball.

His shoulder is good to go RE more inside minutes. Think he'd have got it too if it weren't for Rayners fitness allowing him more time. Ironically, JL being able to play one position meant the likes of Rayner didn't get as many CBAs as they probably would have.

I agree with that with Lyons playing we get less time into others as he only plays mid.
Also getting to the point where both Berry and Rayner both need more constantly.
Lyon I think has a ceiling and too slow although normally you know what you get
Berry and Rayner have one good game then one ok game and then another game you check they not injured or subbed out as not seen them.
Both of them had enough time now. Their worst and best should not be such a big gap.
Saying that Lohmann, Tunstill, Sharp, Answerth and Prior do not seem banging the door down

I'll believe it when I see him stop wincing after contact, even when sometimes that contact is not from a player, but from diving on the grass.
