The thing was, he could kick on his left. And he could do it very well, but for the latter part of his career he barely used it.
Can only look at Richo as good as he was and laugh. Can kick it straight 50 mtrs and over form any angle but miss form 10 and 20 out was unreal for professional footballers. The days of dead eye kicks like Lockett Dunstall and Carey are long gone what on earth are they teaching them.

Assuming we draft a half back to replace Rioli and maybe move Short up the ground, they won't be ready for a year or so.

What about putting Mansell back to half back. He looked good at times there but had a bit of the Steve Morris bull at a gate attitude. He has matured a long way since then.

He is quick, physical, a good kick and a very hard runner. I can't see any other reasonable prospects on our list bar Smith, who may be a player but probably not just yet.

Our half forward line is going to be full.

Brown banks?

Brown banks?
Brown should be played but he is more the Vlastuin type than the Rioli. Banks is a wingman I think. He could play half back but he does not have real pace which was one of Rioli's biggest assets. Trezise could also play the role, he is a bit of a Banks/Brown cross, but all three are still developing and we need a seasoned player to play that role I think.

Options.
Leave Mansell to do what he does
Mansell played well enough forward, but he is not anywhere near a top shelf forward. Would be good to draft one, we will play our new high draft pics there.

Campbell is going to be a really good player I think. His first year was as good as we have seen for a while, (apart from Stack). Green showed plenty and MRJ has come back in good nick so he might finally come good.

Rioli was a star last year and having someone break the lines off half back is far more important than having Mansell play his good average forward game. Worth a shot.

I’d say Brown and Banks will be better not to mention tresize. Mansell plays forward if others are better then he play's VFL. We don’t invent a spot for Mansell just because

It's not about re-inventing it's about replacing Rioli. Mansell played his early days at half back and was pretty good but not ready. He is an average forward, much better than the very average one he used to be.

He has 3 seasons on the others who I don't think are ever going to replace the attack that Rioli gave us. If the Brown, Trezise and or Banks do over the next few years, bonus, but I don't thin they are ready. I always thought that Mansell would be more suited to the wing than forward, but with a half back spot needed he has the experience and speed to play there.

I disagree but that’s what these boards are about
