Oh, I mean if the club pays for it, in response to the poster's question of "Why can't the club organise this?"
I wasn't asking why they can't organise it, I was asking why it wasn't being done in house as part of our regular program. Players shouldn't need to go outside of the club to get the training and skills they require. If they need to go outside the club then it shows our S&C department are either not up to it or not meeting the needs of the player. Either way it isn't a good look.

Well that article mentioned he was working with players from 6 other clubs (Fremantle, Carlton, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Essendon) so we’re not the only club players are going to external sources for additional training

Also, there are limitations on what clubs can program for players during their time off in terms of formal training which might explain the use of non-club affiliated trainers in the off season

If players are going outside the club during the regular season/official preseason then that would be an issue

I think a lot of players jump into novel forms of fitness in the offseason for a bit of fun. They need to be in shape to start the official pre-season, so it's a great chance to try something else out to keep training fresh. Your body is also very efficient at adjusting to a training regime, so it's also a great way to mix it up and get some additional gains.

Any chance some of our players doing independent training like these guys?

How good would it be to see NicNat come back in December absolutely shredded. Can’t see it happening though, especially if surgery/injury still hampering him

How awesome would that be!

However, as someone who is injury prone myself I know how difficult it is to get in shape when just as you are making progress another injury pops up.

I just train calves in the off-season generally.

Wouldn't have had you pegged for that tbh.

Looking forward to how the new whipping boy Jayden Hunt goes next season .

He was a turn over merchant at Melbourne who is allergic to contested footy .

Fast and free !

You’re probably right. I wonder how much scrutiny/support with dietitians etc there is on guys like NicNat who wouldn’t be meeting their skin fold tests. Or if certain players are allowed to let things slide.
