Funny we nailed the picks we traded in (jury still out on Petch I guess, but I'm a fan), and stuffed the picks we always had (Brander, Ainsworth).

Brander had the tools to make it. Hard to call that pick a complete fail, though you wouldn't spend pick 13 or whatever on a guy who projected to be a winger. The general overall management of Brander was a bust for sure, and if you pigeon hole him into being a key forward (as he did himself) then yes it's a bust, but if he were more open to embracing the role we had available I think he'd get games and be performing well.

GWS grabbed him as a forward and found out what we already knew. I'm guessing he remained adamant that's where he would play because he's no longer on their list either. Or maybe they don't have a spot open for a rangey outside player. He could've been McIntosh from Tigers, I reckon.

I can't look at Brander's career and call it anything other than a bust.

It's not as if we drafted a U18 gun and wrecked him either. He was a classic better at U16 level then went backwards West Coast pick, that backfired to the surprise of no one.

Had the tools to make it? Mentally he had none of them.

It's like the Darling mark v Coll.. What if he goaled but the Pies went straight out the middle twice after. Was still 2 mins left

Everything happens for a reason.

That was before 6,6,6. You'd best believe we would have had 14 starting behind the ball at the next center bounce if Darling had kicked that goal.

Not paywalled as it shouldn’t be since the entire article is based around comments made by Gavin Bell in an interview with Mark Duffield on SEN

Before anyone gets too excited about a R1 debut for Chesser the statement was heavily qualified and far from convincing that he’s likely to be in the mix for R1

What Bell did say is he was hoping that when match committee sits down to select the R1 side he was hopeful they’d be discussing about 30 names with a case for selection

Had all the tools except for the most important one IMO - good head on his shoulders (brain not Harry Edwards big head inb4). Position for me wasn't as important as that factor.

Ranking his abilities as stats like height, speed, disposal for a big bloke, all of those were excellent.

Just not a natural competitor - even players like Gaff who aren't necessarily physical show it in their own way by running themselves into the ground. Brander didn't have that anger in him - or the cleverness of a Justin Westhoff who is the type I personally saw him as. Think if you transplanted OAllen's brain into Brander's body and skillset you'd still have a player, winger or forward would have worked itself out.

I am still so gutted that Masten didn’t kick that goal. It would have been next level

If Marsden kicks that goal it'd have been huge. Massive redemption for a whipping boy.... No Bueno ❌

If Darling marked and kicked that goal it'd have been HUGE, massive redemption story and possible Norm Smith shake.... instead, no Buenos ❌

Both of these things still piss me off and just add another chapter to their gimp status. Frustrating it panned out that way.

Just like Kennedy being held "goalless" in the 2015 grand final, and having that forever thrown around, despite him giving a goal or two off in the 4th he easily could've kicked himself.

You mean the bit where Kerr kicks the ball errantly into the middle of the ground and Jones crashes into Barry, wins the contested loose ball and dishes off a handball under pressure

That play?

Staggers me how someone could misremember that moment and still call themselves an Eagles fan.

Also, I never noticed before but after Cousins fluffs that handball to Judd at 1:07 in your clip he does some absolutely gut busting running to give assistance to an outnumbered Waters on the opposite wing. Waters can't get it to him but Ben just steams on and applies 2 further pressure acts which gave Nic Fosdike little choice but to bomb it long down the line, the ball goes out and the rest is history.

Amazing effort by our spiritual leader in the last minute of the last quarter of the last game of the 2006 season.

EDIT: I see someone called him out for missing the tackle but (1) he followed it up with an attempted smother and (2) it was amazing he was able to get himself in a position to affect the play in the first place. Judd and Fletcher were right beside him 15secs earlier but then are nowhere to be seen. If Ben isn't there Fosdike has more time and chances are they manage a shot on goal.

You forgot the backtracking where he insisted he must’ve been thinking about another game. Another cutthroat final where Jones was chasing down a loose ball in the middle in the final few seconds, obviously.

He was a complete bust, a spud....but....he was the CHF in the under 18 All Australian team. Also shone at Geelong Grammar.

It was clearly the 2017 vs Port final where Rojo gathered a loose ball, don't argued Charlie Dixon then delivered off his non preferred onto Shueys tit to line up for the winning goal.

One of the poorer articles Duffield has written since he started at Code focusing on West Coast. Probably his worst effort tbh

Concentrates mainly on Rioli playing against us which given its more a glorified training session rather than even a preseason matchup it’s largely irrelevant. Gavin Bell played it with the sort in f straight bat I wish our cricketers used in India

Allen likely to play and Darling still a chance for round 1

Nothing else which is a shame because the interview with Bell this morning covered a fair bit more

Port Adelaide recruit Junior Rioli will be treated “like any other opponent” on the field but will always have a place at the Eagles because of his role in the 2018 premiership, according to West Coast’s football operations manager Gavin Bell.
Rioli, 27, quit the Eagles to join Port Adelaide on a four-year deal thought to be worth $2 million at the end of 2022.

It prompted a bitter response from Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett after the club had supported Riolithrough a two year WADA ban for tampering with a urine sample before the 2019 finals.

“We could not have done any more to support Junior since his infraction in 2019,” Nisbett said after Rioli’s trade request in September last year. “We facilitated his appeal and his subsequent return to football so this decision is bitterly disappointing.”

Nisbett labelled Rioli: “high end talent, in the prime of his career” who “has played just 51 games of senior football”.

It has not been confirmed that Rioli will take the field against the Eagles for six periods of match simulation on Friday but the nature of the match-up makes it almost certain he will play at some point provided he is fit. A Port spokesman confirmed on Wednesday afternoon he would come to Perth with the squad.

Bell, who sought to take the sting out of the issue speaking on SEN on Wednesday morning, said the Eagles were likely to play as many as 35 players and Port were likely to do the same. He expected both clubs to play “best available” against each other for a period early in what clubs are still calling training rather than match practice.

Bell bracketed Rioli with ruckman Scott Lycett, another who had left the Eagles to join Port.

“We had a look at their game via the internet the other day. We saw that Junior was out there, Scotty Lycett was out there,” he said.

“Obviously they are Eagles for life regardless of the fact they are at Port because of what they helped us achieve in 2018. This weekend if they are in the opposition we will approach them like we would any opposition player. We will try our best to nullify their impact on the game. But at the same time we respect what they have done for us in the past and they will be with us in the future with celebrations.

“The plan with Port is to roll most of our guys through some game time. Playing six phases of football allows us to run 33 or 34 or 35 players through the game.

“I would suggest that there will be, early in the game, guys that are the best available … will probably have a hit out against each other but it will probably chop and change as both clubs manage our players and work out the best way through the structure of the game,” he said.

Bell expects forward Oscar Allen to play against Port after experiencing some hamstring awareness which took him out of last week’s match simulation. And he still believed Jack Darling was in the mix to play against North Melbourne in round one despite a significant ankle injury sustained two weeks ago.

“All things are pointing towards Oscar playing. He had a really good hit out Saturday morning. He trained yesterday with the group,” Bell said.

Darling was now out of a moon boot as his rehabilitation progressed to the next stage.

“He is doing everything he can as are our medical staff and strength and conditioning staff to give him the best chance to be available for round one but it’s certainly not across the line yet,” he said.

“There is a fair bit to go before we would say he is a lock for the first game of the year. You never know with Jack. He is a quick healer and he will do whatever he can to get himself right.”

I've been in hospital with Mrs Beorn all night (she's on the mend).

Can someone summarise the sh#t posting of the past 24 hrs so I can keep up please.
Back in hospital, they sent her home by mistake last night. The tests showed she had a kidney infection but some doctor miscommunicated so she got Sent home. Grrr...

Again, keep me updated on all sh#t posting.
