I definitely think there's a player there worth working with - I just think he was a victim of our outdated stop/kick sideways game style. He's not a lockdown defender, he's a rebounder (much like Jetta but without the laser boot) and if he can be allowed to play that game then I think he will flourish. Getting him to mark the deepest small forward is not his strength and I think he's been forced into playing that position a few times and has suffered coz of it.

With his lack of speed, height or strength elite kicking/creativity really needs to be his go. He can find the ball really well but his use needs to be class to justify a spot in the team without other weapons.

Yeah not too bad. He recently shoved Kelly blatantly in the back after an uncontested mark in the intraclub the other day though. That's pretty poor form from him.

I was only 7 (so thought they were all gods) but I remember people wringing a lot about Malthouse. There was a lot of talk about him not letting the boys play freely and stifling the scoring etc.

I'm not sure that counts as a whipping boy or just the general flack that a coach cops.

IMO...Suma copped a bit because when he wasn't firing he was really bad but wouldn't class him as a whipping boy.
We set up a scafo grandstand in the back yard at the house in Darwin for 92 & 94....really good times

Suma always held the ball quite high, with loose hands, which I always thought was part of the problem having less control over the ball. Great player though!
