Rated the best kick in his draft. Seems like the perfect project player for Yze with his new approach.

Hopefully it means more Brown and Banks next year who both look like great kicks on face value

-Training on narrower field to force corridor play
Beautiful. We play too conservatively along the wings. This is probably why we struggle moving the ball on narrower grounds compared to wider grounds.

I like that Yze’s identifying and addressing our biggest weaknesses pretty quickly. Our top 4 weaknesses are kicking efficiency, corridor use, decision-making, and fitness. He’s already addressing 3 of those at least.

I’m not locking in the 2024 Premiership yet lol, but really positive signs so far. I might reconsider my pessimistic outlook on our 2024 season if we continue seeing more positive signs throughout the preseason.

That’s it mate,
Realistically we are going to be middle of the table next year I’m quietly confident that we will have a better season but don’t see us as a genuine threat either
Just excited to see something different

defending oppo kick-ins and our own kick-ins needs a serious look at in the preseason

i guess forcing the corridor is to do with our own kick-ins as we always just go wide to the right of screen then do nothing with it and usually turn it over

but also defending the oppos kick-ins we were even worse than west coke and norf at it needs to be addressed

It is a good point isn't it, Collingwood players under Fly are told not to worry about missed passes or turnovers as they have confidence their backline is in the right spot to get the ball back again.

Yze is saying why give a team like Collingwood a chance to get the ball back on a turnover if you hit your targets to begin with.

My only concern is we have been playing this way for a long time so we will have a big emphasis on players who can hit a target. Do we have these players? Taranto, Hopper, Prestia aren't great by foot. McIntosh's days are numbered.
The way I look at it, Yze was at Melbourne from 2021 onwards. Melbourne’s midfield pre-2021 were shocking kicks. While I’m not saying they’re superstar kicks now, they’re definitely more purposeful and effective. Yes, they’ve gone a bit backwards with their inside 50 kicking since the Premiership, but I think that’s more to do with their ordinary forward line.

Even if Yze doesn’t turn every individual into a good kick, he could improve team kicking on average with these drills. Maybe that’ll be enough to change us into a good-kicking side.

And the kick-in player was standing there looking around at options as if he wasn’t going to kick to a contest on the right wing lol. I kinda found that amusing.

And for gods sake no more stupid handballs from kick ins. How many goals do we give up every season from handballing it to the pocket and putting a teammate under serious heat?! Just terrible and so frustrating. Even the usually cool headed Vlastuin did it on countless occasions this year

Main takeaways
-Using heat room to help build aerobic capacity and kickstart getting used to the summer heat

-Sampson has put on 4kgs over the break

-Dusty back doing fitness work before needing to be

-Training on narrower field to force corridor play

I’ve put on 4kgs also so Samson is just copying me.

Also we’ve done heat training in preseason before. I remember we set up exercise bikes in the room. I can’t remember which coach did it but it was a while ago.

Coming form Melbourne, he would have seen us just kicking long down the Line to Gawn every defensive transition...

Dimma early doors when we sold home games to Cairns to get used to the heat and humidity. Didn't really work as we went 1-4 from those home games I believe.

It has done my ****ing head in for years. We'd go a 15-25m chip kick to the pocket 90% of the time I reckon. Meanwhile other teams are hitting blokes onnthe chest 50m away kicking out.

Excellent. May or may not work but the bloke has a clear plan and ideas and means business bringing them in right away.

Liking Yze's early impression.

Yep. That short kick in does nothing but allow opposition teams more time to set their defensive kick in structures up down the line.

There's a reason why teams always take the quick kick ins against us.

Yep. No nonsense, straight into it approach. Think a few players might be in for a bit of a shock (Sonsie, Cumberland etc.)

From reports Cumberland has come back in ripping nick and was top 5 in the time trial. Maybe refreshed in the new regime.

I mean more from the attitude and work ethic point of view.
