Be great to see him kick a bag of goals against Gold Coast and stick it up Dimma.
Even in the limited coverage we've had of him this preseason he seems more upbeat and lively. Whenever you'd catch a look at him under Dimma had his head down and looked beaten.

Sounds like Lynch is still cooked
Might be said in jest, but it is quite possible that he has an injury interrupted year. He might start late, might need to be nursed through. If so it makes perfect sense to train a player like Balta to take his place.

Do we want to start the season with a makeshift forward line. Balta as the key forward with Kosi would work. I would thing Gibcus could also do it, but too much pressure on a kid coming from a fair way back. Ryan is a ruck. There is nobody else. I would like to see Young also trialled forward. He's big and strong and reads the ball in the air very well, hence his spoiling ability.

We don't want to go into the season with all our money on Lynch, we need some backup options, so why not trial those over the summer. I am sure Balta will also train with the defenders as well. It's just good preparation.

Let’s think about this logically. Round 1 Richmond has Gold Coast : Ben King, Lukocious, Casboult and maybe Walter up forward.

Round 2 it’s Carlton with Curnow, McKay and a resting TDK.

Next round it’s Port: Dixon, Marshall, Georgiades, Lord, Finlayson.

Are we really relying on Young and a raw Gibcus coming back from a year out? We’d need Miller to play back in those first few games for sure.

I really don’t like the idea of Young, Gibcus, Miller and a potentially cooked Grimes holding our backline together against three really big and capable forward lines to start the season.

You have a point. But do you want to go into rd 1 with Ryan at FF and Kosi at FF, that is far worse than our backline.

Broad has done the job on Curnow before. He is taller and faster and a good spoiler. Young to McKay, and Gibcus could take TDK who has rarely gone forward and caused much trouble. He only kicked 9 goals for the season. Plus Grimes and Vlastuin are there to assist, both are good in the air.

Miller playing back is the wild card. If he spends the summer training back and then playing back, he must be ready, or at least ready to assume responsibility. He is no kid and if he is not ready and backed in what is he doing on the list. He has a chance now under a new coach and will be relied on if Gibcus falters.

If GC play all those guys we will waltz out the backline with little to no pressure and kick 300 points on turnover, no chnace they play them all.

Especially as Dimma said they both couldn't play in the same forward line.

I am hoping that Dusty plays Mid / Fwd

we beat gws away without big sexy with a caretaker coach

gws shouldve made the granny if it wasnt for umpies and their hard on for colonwood in the prelim

thought they were shite in our game

I agree. When Dusty played more midfield minutes throughout the year he dominated … first half of Melbourne game, Saints game in Cotch’s 300th, last round v Port, Norf game … there’s no reason he can’t play 70/30 mid-fwd rather than the other way around. He never ventures behind centre anyway, so let’s make sure he’s in the action more regularly when we are in our forward half. Challenge him to be the best in the comp again … I don’t care if he’s 32yo - he’s as fit as ever so no excuses not to dominate.

Not sure he's in doubt per se.
That's not exactly what he said, but he is certainly cautious on expectations.
True, but I’ve become an alarmist with injuries after the horror show of 2023.

Every time they say something about an injured player’s fitness that isn’t “He’s completely healed and ready to go today”, my mind jumps to one of the worst possible conclusions.
