The pre-season has begun for the West Coast Eagles’ first to fourth-year players.

Under the hot summer sun and the mercury pushing past 30 degrees, the Eagles’ young brigade was put through their paces at Wembley Sports Park.

Tom Barrass looks to have come back more physically mature, while it was great to see Dom Sheed moving well on the track in the first session after injury forced him to start pre-season well behind last season.

2014 draftees Liam Duggan, Tom Lamb and Jackson Nelson were noticeable throughout the session and will no doubt be looking to cement themselves into the Eagles line up in 2017.

Matthew Allen, Malcolm Karpany and Irishman Paddy Brophy were also on the track as the group trained for around an hour going through some basic skills and running drills.

Kurt Mutimer, Luke Partington, Tom Cole and Jordan Snadden didn’t take part in the session as they were undergoing medical screening at ECU.

The eight players who hit the track this morning will undergo their screening on Monday afternoon.

The rest of the playing squad, including new recruits Sam Mitchell and Nathan Vardy, will commence pre-season training on November 28.

Good to see Sheed working on his right foot more. Will become a weapon.

Everyone's looking quite massive but we say that every year
