Concerned Clark is not in track. This is the time to cement your place in the starting team.
If he has had a setback, it could be real problems for him. Reckon this is his year to make or break. Won't be kept on like in previous years.
Will have a close look on Wednesday.

Must admit the names to positions on both A and B teams mighty impressive by BM. Don't expect the same amount of detail from me, but will try to point out anything topical with players and game style etc.

We need to see those players get a game first before we call them an upgrade. Not that long ago JVE was a highly rated draft pick.

Right here and now the 2022 draft from Van Ess on is pretty much a bust... not just for us but for pretty much every club. Though Freo have done well, and Essendon had a late father son in Davey.

But overall very few players from Van Ess on have shown much to date.

So yes he and Hotton were a bust for us, but as it has turned out probably any other players that we might have drafted that year would also have been busts.

I think the more realistic view is that it is slim pickings from Pick 19 on, and so if Keeler can come good then we will be well in front compared to virtually all other clubs in that part of the draft.

So Van Ess was more a low chance lottery pick in a weak draft that did not work out, rather than a "highly rated draft pick" that failed.

2025 draft prospect Archie Ludowyke training with us this week

Sandy boy, played alongside Harry Armstrong in 2024 as a key forward. One of the top rated KPPs in the 2025 pool

According to today's article on it it is all part of Club Experience Week for 2025 Draft AFL hopefuls. As opposed to being driven by St Kilda.

After approximately half of the AFL Academy squad spent time at clubs for their training placements in December, another 12 players will be at clubs in January.

The 'club experience' week allows the 2025 draft hopefuls to see inside a club, train with the elite level and affords clubs the chance to get a better insight into the players ahead of their draft campaigns

Who is training at your club?

Adelaide: Matt Leray, Dyson Sharp
Essendon: Cooper Duff-Tytler
Hawthorn: Willem Duursma
Greater Western Sydney: Liam Hetherton
Melbourne: Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves
Port Adelaide: Harley Barker, Sam Cumming, Taj Murray
St Kilda: Archie Ludowyke
Sydney: Lachlan Carmichael, Noah Chamberlain

Heard he accidentally wondered into the gym, and before he could realise the mistake, the trainee receptionist boarded up the door with the hopes of Hunter actually picking up a bit of tin.

That explains how he got in, for if he had wandered in he would have needed the strength to have open the door.

Lets hope he can use his new found wondering ability in the midfield to pop about as an untouchable. ;)

Training Report 13/01/25 New
Went to training this morning. My observations:

Henry and Collard running laps and later had their own small drills and did some goal kicking. Both were running with varying speeds and change of direction etc so presumably close to training (with the no contact cap no doubt for a while).

Others I couldn’t see on the other side of the ground were doing a more restricted session. Only a couple.

Today consisted of:
1) Warm ups

2) Rotation drills (4 different drills, 4 groups rotated through)

3) Half ground stoppage and kick into attack against the spare in defence. High intensity.

4) Full ground sims, high intensity

Meant to move on but players wanted an extra 10. Ross gave them 4m20s!

5) Into structure drills, lower intensity. A drill to defend point kick outs, first just the yellow group by themselves practising the structure, then the blue group were injected to play against that structure. It was about how the whole group moves together and where they should be positioned.

6) I left. They were still going at around 12:15 when I left

A few observations:

- Pou is a serious professional, hardly speaks, focused, competitive, at the front of everything

-King moved beautifully and had no strapping on the knee or shoulder. Please let this be the year.

-Hastie showed a bit and hit some nice kicks

-Garcia is a jet. I saw a session after he was drafted this time last year and he stood out to me then. Something about the way he moves, strong core, nice 45 degree kick.

-Stocker and Keeler disposal concerning.
Keeler was actually dragged from the match sim by Ross and loudly told to ‘come off and have a think about it’ after a very poor inbound turnover.

-Nas’ kicking stands out. Beautiful run in the match sim and was aggressive in his running to impact up higher - got verbal praise. He’s a weapon for us.

-Travaglia played wing. Moved beautifully. Copped a mouthful for snapping at goal instead of giving hands. Deserved it. Took it well.

- I struggled to know who was who at times, lots of new faces the last couple of years.

-Caminiti played forward but needed lots of reminding from 2 coaches about positioning himself to occupy the space of the loose in defence rather than letting him just block the space for him and King.

I remember we discussed Husthwaite and Lemmey a bit before the draft , but it seems like neither is setting the world on fire.

Hustwaite has done well - his debut was really impressive kicking 2 goals from 15 disposals as a mid/hf - but Hawks midfield is stacked with young talent consisting of Day, Newcombe, Worpel, Nash, Ward

I have him on my list as potentially gettable at season's end even though he isn't exactly what we need

I don’t think a forward line with all of King, Sharman, Owen’s and Caminiti works. Three of those plus the HFF’s and smalls.
One of those guys will also be on the bench most of the time so in reality it is indeed just three of them. However, Owens is such a wildcard with his ground-level work that the four at once can work too imo

Caminiti is also a pretty good pressure player for a big man - just need Sharman and King (who should with a good knee) to lift in this area
