Congratulations to Old Scotch, the 2024 premiers, and commiserations to Old Brighton, the runners up.

Welcome to Old Haileybury and De La, goodbye to the gallant Fitzroy and OM’s.

2025 will be the best year yet, hopefully Mike Olotripo will give us his weekly biased Lions reports and God Yeah will pump up De La, along with Jimmyjack!

Two Uni teams
Four Catholic teams
Six APS teams
Two ACC teams

But only ten teams total 😊

I posted this on another board in response to a comment regarding 2 up – 2 down so will repeat that here. I know I am in the minority but I disagree with 2 up 2 down, at least in the Premier grades. If I had more time I would provide the evidence to support the argument but recent history suggests runners up (and often the Premiers) regularly get related within a season or two. Always exceptions (SKOB B grade Premiers 2015, A grade Premiers 2017) but the majority find the going really tough, often to the detriment of the club and playing group. Fair enough for the divisional grades as it provides an opportunity to move up through the ranks but personally I hate the idea of losing a GF and being promoted.

In regard to the B Grade GF - not surprised by the result but shocked by the margin. OH loaded with talent and were red hot. Just far too good on the day. DLS had a shocker and never fired a shot. Will have some organic improvement with a young list but unless they can recruit substantially I fear 2025 will be a very challenging for the club. If OH can put that side on the park each week they will be more than competitive. Issue for them is the high number of VFL listed players and if they are missing they just don’t have the depth to cover. Stars aligned for them this year with availability but that can change.

Scotchies with the flag, whilst the other teams are already plotting to win it next year, recruiting season is open!

Watched yesterday’s game as a neutral observer at the Glen Huntly Rd end. As someone who is recently new to the VAFA it was an excellent standard of football but the crowd behaviour behind the goals was very poor at times.

Scotch’s supporters were a lot worse than Old Brighton’s. Some of the language and verbal abused directed at opposition defenders was disgraceful and at a level I didn’t expect in an amateurs grand final. I stayed for the medal ceremony and one Scotch supporter even berated an opposition player during the best afield announcement which was pretty gutless in my opinion. The Scotch coach spoke very well though and seemed a lot more gracious and they certainly deserved the win.

There are two clubs in Premier that I don't rate at all in terms of crowds and just how awful they consistently are in terms of behaviour, and that's St Bernards and Scotch. Scotch however just have awful people right through the club (i.e., admin etc as well), as well as supporters. At least away from the snake pit Bernies supporters aren't that bad (as they don't really travel). Scotch are just the worst no matter where you are playing. It's been the same with them for the 30 years I've been around ammo's.

That’s a generalisation. I’ve got a close mate who’s the team manager and he’s as honourable and good a bloke as you could get. From my experience the supporters are generally absolutely fine, with the odd exceptions. I suspect their teeth emerge a bit when they play the OM’s, their great rival.

Well done to Old Scotch, it has been a very long time between drinks and it is great that they managed to win the flag without Conway, Franetic and Easton who are three gun midfielders for them.

Old Brighton still searching for their first A grade flag will be back bigger and better in 2025 I'm sure.

No....Everyone starts off equal. Past results count for nothing when moving forward to the next season...
There are a myriad of reasons between the last game and the beginning of the next season..
Congrats to OS....clearly the best at end of season.
It will be the usual suspects, those teams are so close any of them can win.

Not too concerned what OX do recruiting wise, they’re a middle of the road club these days, and they know it 😎

Lots of player movement talk on the 2024 thread, I’ll start by saying SKOB should have another two of its Alma mater from AFL level in the green gold and blue next year.

As far as player raids go, we are fortunate that we only lose top end players to the VFL and AFL, Sam Davidson one who will get drafted this year, coming off winning the Tigers VFL B and F last night along with two other blokes.
