Amazing that they did what they did this year, on the back of 9 retirement's from last years team, Piskers injury and Kennedy doing his ACL, missing basically the whole season.

I doubt any other club in the comp would have finished the season second on the ladder.
These are just excuses, all clubs have injuries and retirements. Move on

Congratulations to Old Scotch. Well deserved win.
What made the win even more remarkable is the fact that Old Scotch were coming off a 6 day break like Hampton Rovers in Premier C, but unlike the Rovers who got smashed by Old Carey in the Premier C Grand Final, overcame that hurdle to post a convincing win.

There is that. Justified? Maybe. But the simple fact is that if he'd have been given an exemption, it'd set a precedent for the compulsory stand-down period being challenged in every other competition as well as the VAFA.
He would have missed more games than any other player during the regular season for concussion (assuming medical clearance was granted). 21 one days is ridiculous. Make 19 days, so he misses 2 games.

Not a VAFA person but went to the game today, good game of footy, was a little underwhelmed by the crowd tbh, apart from the sections behind the goals the rest seemed pretty sparse. Didn’t seem like a big crowd for a Premier Division grand final. I just read 3500 on social media which seems small.

Not sure about the Friday thing, it’s a long weekend now so many people take the opportunity to get out of town, I think you’re probably better off winding up your local footy season last Saturday.

It was a significantly larger crowd than last year. Congrats to The Cardinals, 46 years in the making.

I’m an OSC and went to most games for years, when they were making up the bottom of A grade, in B grade. They’ve come of age and all their teams are excelling. It’s a great thrill for the volunteers, the lifeblood of these clubs. “Good old Scotch!”.

Congratulations to Old Scotch. Well deserved win.
It's good to see Scotchies break a 46-year premiership drought in a game that was sans the usual suspects.

Although he soiled himself with his GF tip, congrats to XXXXAFL who was the only BF pundit to consistently rate the Cardinals this year.

Keep the list together and add James Stewart and they'll be a powerhouse in 2025.

Well done to the Scotchies, I wonder if Tim
Shearer is crying into his wine glass that they had 7 non Scotch guys play in that premiership? The QLD connection has worked well for them, good for them and in particular Mark Gnatt.

OB on the other hand are still a production line of scholarship boys from the school, they will be back bigger and better next year, with Harry at the helm.

Scotchies deserved the win the way they played yesterday. Felt like the Tonners cracked under the constant pressure being put on them.

As to Jascave's point vis-a-vis the crowd and public holiday footy, being a perfect day weather wise certainly helped get the crowd numbers up. By about lunchtime in the 2s it was already ringing the ground and only grew from there. Dare say there will be more.

I wasn’t far from that touched goal to Old Scotch in the second quarter, quite a display of mismanagement from the field umpire. Everybody in the ground except the goal umpire knew it was touched.

The field umpire ran in, got the goal and two boundaries in for a conference, both boundaries urging and gesticulating about it being blatantly touched… he just nods and goes with the goal umpire. Weird.

Watched yesterday’s game as a neutral observer at the Glen Huntly Rd end. As someone who is recently new to the VAFA it was an excellent standard of football but the crowd behaviour behind the goals was very poor at times.

Scotch’s supporters were a lot worse than Old Brighton’s. Some of the language and verbal abused directed at opposition defenders was disgraceful and at a level I didn’t expect in an amateurs grand final. I stayed for the medal ceremony and one Scotch supporter even berated an opposition player during the best afield announcement which was pretty gutless in my opinion. The Scotch coach spoke very well though and seemed a lot more gracious and they certainly deserved the win.

ScotchVFL did a remarkable job of a six day break in the longest season of all time. Well done Mark GNatt

I've just watched the William Buck Premier Grand Final, and the VAFA's decision to play the William Buck Premier Grand Final on AFL Grand Final Eve Friday has paid off big time, judging by the size of the crowd at Elsternwick Park today.

Looked like a bigger crowd than last year on the coverage. I hope the VAFA invest whatever profit made into the facilities at EP. Outer is a veggie patch.
