I've had the meniscus clean up. I was walking on it next day. I was running after a week or so. That's obviously without specialist care or a fitness plan.

Likewise. Bartel had his appendix out and missed one week of footy. These guys are tough but if it means he will be able to run with less discomfort then it's a small mercy

Are we Beggers or are we Choosers?

We have Banfield who perhaps sits somewhere between Sturt and Corbett. After that, discussion probably goes to Erasmus and Fyfe.
Agreed from my perspective re: beggars can’t be choosers comment. I see Corbett (fully fit) as a hybrid between Sturt and Treacy but from my perspective closer to Sturt. The issue was his mobility affected by the hip issues and as a result for Peel and then for Freo was seen more as KPF which I don’t believe he is. I remember Corbett smashing the field many years at GC in the time trials.

As for Voss whilst he has height on his side Essendon posters have suggested him being treated as a KPF has resulted in him being delisted. He played best as more mobile medium tall.

At the end of the day Corbett, Banfield and Sturt are all listed at around 189-190cm. Voss whilst taller plays a similar role. I’m blanketing all those in the same bracket. Wasn’t often that Banfield and Sturt played in the same team.

Voss isn’t currently on the list. Corbett is LTI. If Voss gets on the list and impresses and Corbett doesn’t improve from what I’ve seen to date (post hip surgery and recovery) then it will be curtains for Corbett. I’d suggest that Corbett aside from getting his hip sorted as priority also lose a bit of weight to have that mobility. He isn’t a KPF. Potentially Voss is a good replacement for Corbett. SVR is another option. Maybe one can be selected in the MSD if like them both. Max Beattie I like the look of from small sample size. He fills an area of need. We get to have a good look at him and trial him in the Feb Match sims.

Is Voss quick? Sturt has height but also has pace.

Last year we got found out by pace. If Sturt misses the start of season (hopefully he doesn't) then I would prefer to try Simpson, rather than likes of Banfield. He provides pace and can Kick a goal!

The talls of Amiss, JT, Jacko, with the pace and class of walters, freddy and simpson mouth watering stuff with The three young talls another year older!

Raz to play the tough hard contested flanker off the bench...

In the end I am of the opinion that we have options forward but are lacking in strategy. That is both in terms of the actual forwards and the transition forward. That is where our upside is the greatest regardless of someone like Voss/Simpson vs Banfield. Coaching is the key.

Agree with the coaching aspect completely, and I’ll add the decision making of players on field affects our scoring output too.
I feel like we almost have the pieces (bar a mercurial mid-size/small forward) we just need the players to execute an improved forward entry system

Hard to beat the natural decision making of a player like Walters. In general our forwards seem to lack a bit hunger.

I'm looking at Treacy in particular and hope that he can get a better balance between doing the team thing (which he is good at), and being The Man!

Imagine if he was a bit pissed off that Amiss has just waltzed in and pinched his limelight.

Voss already in the rehab group. Not ideal for him.

I think with the way Sharp and NOD are training (also Aish and Matthew Johnson) they are comfortable where things are at for Wing position. Stanley being another option.

The interview with Chapman indicates he has been training exclusively with the backs so another example of the wing being covered.

Frederick’s I like as half forward roaming upfield and then charging back towards goal with turnover.

I’d get a bit more concerned about Emmett and Sturt if not back training with the main group by late Jan. looking at Emmett he is progressing along and Sturt has had surgery already. I assume meniscus clean-up. If is minor (as reported by club) it shouldn’t disrupt him that much and a decent chunk of his rehab time will be over the Xmas break. The report yesterday indicated back training with the main group mid to late Jan.

If both have a slight delayed start to the season whilst not ideal you just make sure the replacements are fit and firing. If that is Banfield for a couple of weeks or even Patrick Voss then so be it. An Essendon Poster indicated that Voss isn’t really a KPF - he is more your mobile medium forward (just he is 193/194cm instead of 188-190cm like Sturt and Banfield).
Voss makes me think of Mason Wood. Is that comparable? Wood at his best is very handy.
