"He's had a pre-season out of the box...he has ripped them apart."

Listen to Dougie, Paul and I discuss which players have impressed over the summer and the ONE who has turned the most heads with an explosive pre-season.

Tune in from 11min 25 second mark to find out who! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbnDxpbtVVs

Also listen to Dougie say "the boy" 13 times in the episode.

Also, is there an episode where Doug doesn't say, "I think that's right. Is that right, boys?"

No there's not mate, I reckon Dougie says that about every second sentence. Wonderful to hear the great man on a regular basis.

I really do like Scott, his shown enough for me to consider him on a wing starting.. Hannan and VDM on the other hand, yes, bring speed, but really not much else.

I'd prefer West's hard nut in the midfield and Garcia and mid/hhf role.
Yeah I like Scott too, definitely one of my favs for the outside role players we need! Sounds like he had a good game until the head knock, which is also a concern considering his history

Scott is a good solid role player who can fill holes due to injury or form. He's someone that I feel is overhated.

I like him in that he has very few weaknesses and like you said can fill a number of holes. Definitely don’t hate him, and my first post was a bit of a pisstake more than anything, he’s surprised me since drafted and I’m glad to have him on the list. Although I do think he’s got some preferential treatment and with a full list I probably don’t have him in best 22 whereas he seems to be a lock in Bevos, but he could definitely improve again and cement himself he’s only been on a list for two years

I really don’t rate what Hannan brings though, especially in our tall forward line. Think he’s massively overrated by the coaches, VDM too but I can see the attraction, just think he needs some serious twos time to improve on his weaknesses before he’s a lock.

I bloody love West though and it’s sad that he’s possibly gonna be in the same position again, I get he has his issues too but I think we massively underrate what he brings around the ball

I haven’t noticed him being overhated, mainly underrated or overlooked. But fans are becoming more numerous.

As the season grows closer and having been to an opening training plus hearing the reports I am growing more confident.

Bont looks in great shape and ready for a 2021 like season.
Jones looks fit and from reports ready to take over as captain of the backline.
We do not have many injuries and no long term ones touch wood this continues.
Lobb looks like he will be a good pick up.
English should be better than he was last season and that was a good one.
Jamarra is ready to stamp himself on the competition.
Bevo has acknowledged changes are needed to the game plan in defending when the opposition have the ball.

This all adds up to a top 4 finish and a serious tilt at the flag.

We got close the last few years and we upgraded with a KPD1, who is still in his prime; and we upgraded our KPF/Ruck to the best in the league. We haven’t lost anyone that important to our structure, the fourth midfielder can be replaced or we can change our rotations and be better off.

I rank players influence like this:
1. Centre
2. Rover
3. Ruck rover
4. Ruck
5. KPF1
6. KPD1 ++++
7. KPF/Ruck ++++
8. Next Mid -

So we upgraded 2 players in our top 7 most important and lost a midfielder (who we had too many of). I don’t rate Hunter as a loss, as I see his departure a blessing. He was slow to get the ball forward in transition and he wasn’t focused on AFL any more.

To say I am bull(dog)ish about this season is a massive understatement. It’s going to be epic!!! EPIC!!!!

Here, here. Plus a fit Bont makes us so much more damaging.

All the optimism is fine and maybe even appropriate. But it can come unstuck very quickly with a few injuries to key players (I won’t name those key players for reasons of irrational superstition but you can easily work out which ones I mean).

So let’s just hope for some leniency from the injury gods for a change. If we get that we’re in with a real chance.
