I'm a fairly optimistic supporter but I'm approaching all time levels of apathy for this season.

Not good enough to contend, not bad enough (although.....) to be completely hopeless and derive enjoyment from young talent (there is none) on the list.

Seeing Rioli do his thing again is the only thing that excites me about this year. 🤞
Feel the same, hot+cold about footy at present- our injuries, the surviving team.
While across town the purple-peeple seem to be in bristling form.
I'm sure there's some positives to be taken from what already appears to be a cursed
season, but I'm guessing they won't be apparent until midway through the first half of season.
Meanwhile, tomorrows game approaches with a foreboding sense of dread?
Re the glass half full or half empty, I threw mine in the bin!

We've got such a lacklustre list right now.

It's not an exciting rebuild year because our list sucks and there's minimal young talent coming through. Even less due to injuries.

And we're also too shit to contend, or as recent history suggests, even be competitive.

I essentially just want to fast forward this season and take our likely top 6 pick into the draft with our few second rounders and usher in the new phase in 2023.

How can you truly enjoy the up years without going through the shit ones? Obviously I'd rather be the best we can be, but to just wish a season away until the next draft is WEAK.

Hang your head Dark Sharks.

So would you describe yourself as a downhill skier type of supporter?

Sounds that way!

I'd fight you, but I only fight people with MMA backgrounds.

Were you at the game in the cold rain and thunderstorms last year when our team got beaten by the wooden spooners backing up Hurns 300 debacle the week before?

I was. It was bloody freezing. My phallus still hasnt returned to it's original size. (19 inches, for those wondering) That's supporting them through thick and thin right there.

Call me fair-weather and I'll call you Chris Marsden, from Wish.

As a member who goes to every game I only expect to see a bit of direction by the club, at the least. Right now we're rudderless and in denial.

Denial about how good our list is, denial about the Kelly trade being a failure. Denial about our utter downward trajectory since the 2018 flag.

Losing is completely fine when there's a purpose and a learning experience for younger players, but it's pointless when you're a middling club that's seemingly focussed on selling memberships only and not the actual quality of the men's (or woman's for that matter) list and development of it's players.

What I'm saying is we should fold.

There’s no point arguing with him. He has been in a constant state of negativity about the club for quite a while now.
A few other notables on here also with a flair for hysteria and dramatics too.

We face the unknown. Wrightly or wrongly the club feels like we can “challenge” this season. It may be completely delusional and the injuries could have derailed that idea, but can we not just wait til the season starts before we write us off?

How about Willie back in tandem with Ryan? Liam with his great mentor J Schofield at the club now. Speaking of, he and Knights and hopefully the implementation of some changes to game plan and structure.

We could see SPS in a midfield role. A fit Yeo (after his current injury is overcome 😛). McGovern back in AA form.
Games put into Winder, the debut of Hough, Trew. Harry Edwards developing.
King JK going round one last time and of course one Nic Naitanui.

The above is a bit of a mishmash but I am choosing to embrace the unknown, wait for the season to start and hopefully look for some positives and enjoy what we can. If we are about to enter a full rebuild, so be it. But I don’t see the need to give up already 🤷‍♂️

Watch yourself, I've played a shitload of Street Fighter 2. And unless you were going to try and beat me up by throwing your collection of neckbeard books at me I'm not particularly worried.

There's still positives to be found and experience to be earned by our second to 3rd tier players. We sit around and whine about playing the kids, well now we have no choice. Maybe we unearth a gem or 3? Maybe forcing more games into Winder, Foley, Hough and the like will force them to develop faster?

Sure it's not ideal, but now we get to see if we've got further down the list - and that forces the club to clean out a year earlier than expected.

Chin up campaigner, maybe we find the trade currency order to finally land Will Minson to replace a retired Naitanui.

You silly w***ers are missing the point.

It's got nothing to do with winning and losing. My original post didn't mention that at all. I'm happy to lose. Lose until the cows come home. That's fine.

It's the fact we are often playing a collection of ageing senior players, with a stale game plane that has become more and more obsolete over the past few seasons, and still aren't competitive. Players I'm tired of watching.

My indifferent state for 2022 is based around the fact we don't really have a huge amount of young talent on our list, and the ones we do are unfortunately dead.

Chesser potentially being wiped out for a whole season (that old chestnut), and Clark also dead is the real kick in the Johnson (intentional) for me personally, given these 2 are the new midfielders we all so desperately craved in the off-season. Now have to wait basically until the bye to see them at the earliest, if at all.

Add to that our captain not being fit, our talented great white hope forward continuing his injury prone trend and the return of Yeo instantly being hosed down..

You can see fans would be grasping at straws for something.

It's not being "negative", I'll support the team as much as I ever have, it's being "less invested".

Yeah because you're a loser
This is my favourite Av of yours so far...Just seems so apt!

I get your point, but there's a lot of nuance between contending and rebuilding. We're on the slide. That takes years to accept and to actually bottom out to the point you get good picks.

The acceptance phase is usually countered first with denial where you spend your good picks as trade collateral to extend your contending window. It doesn't always work, but no point dying wondering.

This is a frustrating phase but you can't skip it, unfortunately. So look for small positives to enjoy. We aren't stacked with yoof but we're not entirely devoid of it, so cheer on those we have. Death ride Ports second rounder. Spend the season hanging shit on Vishy.

Dark Sharks, the highlighted part is in fact the crux of the problem, with that game plan it wouldn't matter if we had good youth pushing up, we will still be getting pantsed.

As much as we have some list deficiencies and inadequacies, it comes a distant second to the problems associated with our game plan.

No need to bold...I mean, I know you're old and read with a Monocle but why make the rest of us suffer??? ;)
