One thing I'm going to look more eclosely at is bailey Williams and his follow up.

There has been multiple occasions where he taps it to the ground and he follows up by grabbing ball of the ground. Aka Nic Nat style.

But I don't think I've seen it working and leading to dangerous inside fifty assist.

I'll have a look at it some more but if my thinking is confirmed then I'd tell him to stop doing that and let the mids win the stoppages.

Logically if you have the wce mid and wce ruck contesting the same ball on the ground the ruck should not even grab it up.

You’ve got Dylan82 and wce_phil, two of the more analytical posters on this board coming out of yesterday afternoon with unfavourable sentiment which I agree 100% with.

To say it’s unreasonable melts and you can’t take anything out of a preseason game is a bit of a polar reaction the other way for mine.

From what I saw, I’d be awfully surprised if Finn O’Sullivan isn’t in an eagles guernsey next year. Question is what the afl decides to do about make sure our next pick is closer to 19 than 30.

I mean, has it?

2 years with the team destroyed by injury had made it incredibly difficult to assess whether that's true or not. This year is make or break for him, as he's repeatedly said they're looking to implement a new style that's competitive with how the game is currently played.

Old coaches, like Malthouse, Sheedy, Pagan, etc had their way and were unable to change with the times.

We'll see if Simmo can walk the walk this year but people melting over a preseason game, where we've historically performed poorly, are a bit pathetic really.
But it’s not just 2022 and 2023.

And the excuse that we are historically poor in preseason is premised on a fact that we can ‘choose’ to be poor and can switch it up.

Always darkest before the dawn, but when the coach looks like he cry at any moment, the players over 24 look like they would choose a vasectomy over playing footy and our hierarchy’s preseason key performance indicator is to run them into the ground so they will be fitter in the first proper game; then querying Simmo doesn’t quite hit the high water mark of being ‘pathetic’.

For some posters there is always an excuse, it is all an aberration, it is all down to external circumstances, everything is great and if it isn't it will all do a complete 180 next week.

You are predicting in another post that we won't play finals again until 2027 (Are you Nostradamus that you can predict things out to 2027?), but then when people discuss what the problems are and why we are down the bottom you get all s**** and want to argue that everything is fine. Make up your mind, pick one position and try to stick to it.

Not at all. I don’t think you would find one person who claims the last few seasons are an aberration. Nor claim everything is great.

Absolutely, the problems are to be discussed. However, in my opinion, I think it is wrong for a claim that fitness has been “neglected” again on the basis of one practice match after we have made sweeping changes to our medical and fitness staff over the past 12 months. Do you think we should wait until the new season unfolds before judging if our fitness standards have improved?

It seems you are in a huff because someone pointed out the difference in approach between the two sides over the first four quarters, Fremantle using more players and rotating some at half time, whereas we did not. You state things as fact, not opinion, without taking into account anything else.

Quite a few little things to like.
Really people when the f##k did these scratchies ever count for anything! If ya don’t like it ya can just GTFO!!!

Do you understand how rotations work, and that you can't just bring in over a quarter of a side completely fresh after half time in the regular season?

It's a preseason game, that each club tries to get something different out of.

For Freo, it's to chalk up meaningless wins to get their supporters pumped for the failure of the regular season.
Hardly. We have so much competition for spots on every line, we are still working out who gets first crack at it. We had what was deemed a very poor season last year, but still managed 10 wins, and beat cats, swans and dees at home. That’s never easy. The comp is brutally even, with a few exceptions. We know we have to hit the season running this year. Last year we didn’t, and it cost us.

We had options in the 2nd game that could have been rotated in the earlier games at 3/4 time, with the next game being only 4 x 10 minutes.

Been plagued by soft tissue injuries and we decided against this strategy?

Reid and Hough cramping/injury were fatigue related and will not improve our performance in game one by one Iota.

Not necessarily, maybe Simmo prefers the boys have a big week on the track before hand and come in partly fatigued already, to try to push them a bit harder

Ok, I get it, but it was clearly a pre-determined strategy and in line with what we have seen and heard from the club thus far during the preseason.

We asked for change to the S&C and Medical areas and change has been implemented 🤷‍♂️ Hopefully once the season starts, we will get to see some positive effect of the change (s).

Maybe we wanted as many of the guys as possible to have to go through a normal 4 quarters, with JJ being managed in the second game. Not every club tackles the practice games the same way

Seems like it

You dont know what the guys were up to during the week, what kind of workload they had. Just chill, wait for a real game

Only a scratchie but not a lot changed from the last couple of years.

Missing several best 22 players

Late injury to player before game

Player subbed of before HT

Dominated in midfield

Hardly any players availablele for the B side

What?

He isnt saying everything is fine he's saying the melts are OTT.

And Freo did rotate 8 new players in at half time. We decided to get a full game into as many players we could. So Freo looking fresher in the 2nd half is to be expected. How is that an excuse......its just stating facts. No surprise the two clubs were taking different plans into a practice match.

Half time we were 2 goals down. We lose to Freo by 4 or 5 goals thats a step in the right dirrection and a pass grade at this point in the rebuild.

The issue was even in the first half freo were dominant through the midfield particularly after the first quarter. I just don't see how the team can run out games and compete against almost all midfields.

We might get some lucky wins but with our injury list where it is, lack of developed star power and our best players other than Allen ageing it's hard to see more than 4-6 wins imo. The fixture looks a little easier in the second half of the year but we could be 1-9 to start the year.
Tbh we need to be down the bottom again. We don't have the cattle yet to compete and want to load up on talent before tassie scoops the pool

Nah if he can do it, go for it. Ball winning is our weakest area. Once darling is back there'll be more chance of a mark and brockman will help too

We will most likely be bottom 2 to 4 this year and next with our current list. Only Geelong, Richmond and Collingwood look likely to fall down the ladder in this time, but none of those teams have trouble getting established players from trades or free agency. We are still loosing old stars and becoming younger each year. I think unless we have huge success in our development of our recent draftees we will occupy the bottom 4 unitil 2027. I just cant see who will fall lower than us in this time frame. We need lube.

You mean the 44% winning Malthouse that was sacked 4 games into 2015 after winning 7 games and finishing 13th the year before.

Carlton list was on the down when Malthouse took over but the 2015 list had young Cripps, Curnow and McKay.

Carlton/Malthouse flirtation makes Simmo look kissed on the d##k.
Curnow and McKay were drafted at the end of 2015, so they weren’t playing for Carlton that season.

Thats all good. A proper reset it is. It'll be nice when we dont have to use our first rounders on mids(or possible midfielders).

Except we do have some idea, there was comments made by simmo during the live streamed intraclub that they are in 'in season mode' now.

e.g. main session mid week, captains run before the game etc

Find it highly probable this week was treated as in season mode and not a heavy load weak
