Thank you 76woodenspooners

One of BigFooty’s all-time-favourite posters, Reykjavik , was all across the board level stuff. He once posted a list of the responsibilities of a Not-For-Profit board like that of Collingwood …

abcdef.....ijklmnop

NFP board responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of a not-for-profit (NFP) board include:

  • Driving the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Working with the CEO to enable the organisation to obtain the resources, funds and personnel necessary to implement the organisation's strategic objectives
  • Implementing, maintaining and (as necessary) refining a system of good governance that is appropriate for the organisation
  • Reviewing reports and monitoring the performance of the organisation
  • Regularly reviewing the board's structure and composition, so that these are appropriate for the organisation
  • Appointing – and managing the performance of – a suitable CEO
  • Succession planning for the CEO
While the above points are also applicable to for-profit boards, NFP boards also face a unique range of issues, such as:

  • Difficulties in defining and measuring organisational effectiveness
  • Transgression of role boundaries
  • The negative impact of the structural compositions of some NFP boards, including those arising from representative models
  • Funding dependencies and constraints

In practice, the role of the board is to supervise an organisation's business in two broad areas:

  1. Overall business performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements strategies and supporting policies to enable it to fulfill the objectives set out in the organisation's constitution. The board delegates the day to day management of the organisation but remains accountable to the shareholders for the organisation's performance. The board monitors and supports management in an on-going way.
  2. Overall compliance performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements systems to enable it to comply with its legal and policy obligations (complying with statutes such as the Corporations Act 2001, adhering to accounting standards) and ensure the organisation's assets are protected through appropriate risk management.

Get rid of Eddie everybody said...what was the plan I ask those buffoons? We are in very dangerous waters as a result!

There should have been a plan and clear alternative.

If Eddie was still here would be doing better than 2-9?

Would the salary cap/trading issues not have happened?

We are here because the club was run to this point and people are restless, this didn’t take 6 months to unravel.

What revolution?
Browne is no different.

Exactly this, Eddie’s mate, or basically puppet.

Korda should absolutely not be President, not voted in and part of the problems we have.

But it’ll be no different, again a bunch of board members getting parachuted in and not voted by the members.

The talk of these ‘powerful’ presidents is overrated is the point.

Go have a look at the last 10 premiers, I bet people couldn’t even name the Hawks one that was President for the 3 peat.
I think you are underrating Eddie's achievements. Many people, Collingwood haters all, have expressed the desire to have Eddie as their president. It's pretty obvious Eddie is pissed at being shafted by Korda, Licuria and Murphy and is backing Browne. Eddie will still be a powerful figure behind the scenes, no matter who is president.

This current board, including Eddie, actually heavily Eddie, signed off on quite a few decisions, like the trade period, long term contracts and the appointments to football department.

Where we are at is very much Eddie’s doing.

Im not underrating his achievements, I’m saying the ‘powerful’ tag isn’t necessary to be a good President, as seen at numerous other clubs.

The above is concerning, if he is pissed at being shafted, that shouldn’t be a motivator for this move.

McGuire just can’t help himself. Still hurting from the Sydney establishment sorting him out 20 years ago. Packer taking the piss.

Big fish, small pond.

Korda hasn’t impressed, but I’m not impressed with Browne either, seems too much boys club and can see him being a similar style to Eddie albeit with fewer “gaffs”. Murphy I like, hasn’t been around as long and pushed for the 2017 review which tells me there’s no sacred cows if things aren’t working out. Plus I think he would beat Browne in a ballot.

I'd vote for Murphy.

If a new Board is elected, will they allow Graham Wright to run the Football Department?
Will they allow him to recommend the senior coaching positions for 2022 onwards?
Or will they make “campaign promises” & override Wright? Effectively cutting him out of the process?
Will Wright be comfortable with that, will he stay or decide to move on?

Will they keep Anderson?

Peak Collingwood of the last few years would be Wright getting sick of this crap and going

Sizer, Holgate and Wilson probably stay if a "peaceful" transition occurs.

Murphy, Licuria and Korda contributed to McGuire's exit and O'Donnell's appointment has caused too much angst among the members.
Agree with this. Maybe Licuria might stay for Wilson or Holgate, depending if Browne's ticket has a football person.

Sure, but then why did he say the current board can pick which 3 stay? I thought that was a bit unusual.

He probably wants to limit the collateral damage. What better way than to give the power to the incumbents to decide who sticks around.
