Thank you 76woodenspooners

One of BigFooty’s all-time-favourite posters, Reykjavik , was all across the board level stuff. He once posted a list of the responsibilities of a Not-For-Profit board like that of Collingwood …

abcdef.....ijklmnop

NFP board responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of a not-for-profit (NFP) board include:

  • Driving the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Working with the CEO to enable the organisation to obtain the resources, funds and personnel necessary to implement the organisation's strategic objectives
  • Implementing, maintaining and (as necessary) refining a system of good governance that is appropriate for the organisation
  • Reviewing reports and monitoring the performance of the organisation
  • Regularly reviewing the board's structure and composition, so that these are appropriate for the organisation
  • Appointing – and managing the performance of – a suitable CEO
  • Succession planning for the CEO
While the above points are also applicable to for-profit boards, NFP boards also face a unique range of issues, such as:

  • Difficulties in defining and measuring organisational effectiveness
  • Transgression of role boundaries
  • The negative impact of the structural compositions of some NFP boards, including those arising from representative models
  • Funding dependencies and constraints

In practice, the role of the board is to supervise an organisation's business in two broad areas:

  1. Overall business performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements strategies and supporting policies to enable it to fulfill the objectives set out in the organisation's constitution. The board delegates the day to day management of the organisation but remains accountable to the shareholders for the organisation's performance. The board monitors and supports management in an on-going way.
  2. Overall compliance performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements systems to enable it to comply with its legal and policy obligations (complying with statutes such as the Corporations Act 2001, adhering to accounting standards) and ensure the organisation's assets are protected through appropriate risk management.

He never did that though, my gripe which i've stated many times is Hine being elevated to list manager, you don't promote the head recruiter to list manager under any circumstances, people talk about conflict of interest, that is the ultimate conflict of interest IMO, the proof is in the pudding.

I don't give a fu** what you guys think, sh*t turned south when Hine was promoted.

Don't think you'll find many that disagree, doesn't change the fact that Ed was in conflict of interest.

Yes, so he should've solely invested his time into the club - not other roles as well. Anyway we're going down a rabbit hole here.
The presidency isn't a fulltime role, fact is Ed's media roles helped us a club, conflict of interest maybe but it certainly didn't hurt us, we were a basket case when he took over, he put us back on the map.

Damian Barrett on SEN today saying we still need to shed 550-800k worth of salaries, the mess continues on that front.

Let’s not forget the shedding of players started with Aish in 2019, not just last years ‘firesale’.

Be interesting if the real culprits behind all this are made clear.
Is it those that have left or those that remain?
Barrett has never quoted FACT. Its always "I believe". he is a :poo::poo:

Looks like he isn’t going to get her.
I just wonder whether Browne has completely misread this. I have to say as each week goes by I hope an alternative ticket to Browne with a proper, considered plan and board appears. Not to say they will be successful, but if this is what we can expect of Browne, it will be disastrous for the club.
I'm cynical. I think his plan is purely and simply to become the president.

My bet is that he reveals no vision and just before there is a vote, he'll declare a position to either keep or exit Bucks. The current board will have taken the stance that they are going through a process and thus be non-committal and thus it will become a vote for or against Bucks.

Can you explain it then?
It really doesn't deserve any reply...but

What our club did is not "entirely expected behaviour by fan........" .

Expected behaviour is to at least use a spreadsheet or maybe a calculator to make sure we are within the celery cap. Not offer average players 500,000 plus contracts, not recruit a player who left us who had his personal issues then pay full price plus some to get him back.

Not sure if you noticed late last year but the actions from that "expected behaviour " we lost 3 best 22 players. Get this, we are still paying for at least 1 of those players, $300,000 for 5 years! Now because you may have missed it last year, you would think to your self at least we got some good picks in return for a guy we are paying $300,000 for 5 years but no, we didn't! We got the equivalent of a future second round pick in return!

Last year's grand finalists in the recent 2 trade periods have not had to fire sell to gain Elite talent. We had to fire sell to get a finger painter who I'm pretty sure we are still paying.

Competence is what I would call "expected behaviour. "

I would suggest Bucks offering an opinion on the current Board and their retention would suggest he has already decided he doesn’t want to coach Collingwood next season.

Could be, after the amateur sideshow Browne attempted to pull mid week he probably thought I don’t wanna work for this guy anyway.

King of the non-committal sh*t we see dominating AFL journalism
100%. I respect Mike Shehan for the fact that he never went with a hunch. He always had fact behind his stories. Fair to say Journalism is 20% truth 80% Fiction nowadays.

We were within the salary cap. If we weren’t we’d be in trouble with the AFL as per Adelaide with Tippett / Carlton’s brown paper bags.

Not offer average players 500,000 plus contracts, not recruit a player who left us who had his personal issues then pay full price plus some to get him back.

That’s one way of looking at it.

Another way of looking at it is: We got within a kick of the 2018 Premiership. How do we get better so we can win it the next year? We’ve got a Premiership player, club captain who wants to come and play for us - but we need to juggle the finances to afford him (ie: backend Treloar’s contract).

Or do we take pick 17 in the draft? (+ 2020 first round pick into the draft). I didn’t see anybody at the time say that this was the better option and make it more likely to deliver immediate Premiership(s).

Not sure if you noticed late last year but the actions from that "expected behaviour " we lost 3 best 22 players.

You think we shouldn’t have gone after the 2019 and 2020 Premierships? You think we should have just played it safe and taken players in the draft? You think we should just be a middling team, not take any risks?

Get this, we are still paying for at least 1 of those players, $300,000 for 5 years! Now because you may have missed it last year, you would think to your self at least we got some good picks in return for a guy we are paying $300,000 for 5 years but no, we didn't! The salary cap contracted due to COVID. Clubs didn’t have the cap space to be able to afford Treloar’s contract.

COVID made it a buyers market.

We took a punt and we lost. Shit happens.

But that’s better than playing it safe and not taking a punt at all ... like I say, what the fans expect.

Eddie was a brilliant President. He also tried to be the contract recruiting and HR bloke too, and he was less good at that. I wish he could come back as president, but I doubt he can, and if he did he would probably try to wear all the hats again.

Korda is Eddie's man. He is not a President, he is a proxy. He'll do for now.

Dunno Browne at all, if he's a journo then he's a PoS scum for mine, piss off. If he has ability then prove it, tell us the story and how you will do a better job than Eddie's proxy.

Look you and I agree: at the time the Beams deal looked risky but for a few rounds in 2019 it looked like we were on track. It was clear at full time in the 2018 GF we were maybe one (1) player away from a flag, and that player was available.

Unfortunately we didn't get the 2018 season again in 2019. If you plan to win the last war you often lose the next one. We got Dayne Beams 2019, who was sniped and injured by that **** Lynch in the Richmond game and already going off the rails.

The review in 2017 was (to my outsider's limited knowledge) mostly about Eddie not interfering outside his role. AFAIK (ands once again i am a mug punter, just my impression) he did a lot of it, mostly he does it well because he's smart and hard working and has good contacts. Nobody is good at everything, but he rebuilt the club and through loyalty and sweat help us win in 2010.

The results of the 2017 review were spectacular (if a bit lucky) and we won a Preliminaryship. Eddie immediately went back to interfering in recruiting and contracts instead of leaving it to the blokes whose job it was. Its very hard when you are a smart self-made fella (which Eddie is), putting up with all the silly red tape.

This goes to the Lumumba stuff as well. There was a stupid joke made. Eddie had a chat, thought he smoothed it over and assumed everyone was as thick skinned as himself. "No need for some stupid process with paperwork, shake hands and its like it never happened". The problem with sorting it out like that is there's no paper trail.

Whether Lumumba is a POS or a genuinely aggrieved party (or some combination) instead of following the boring stupid procedures Eddie ran his own process without a paper trail and he screwed the pooch for us. "Institutional Racism" simply means there was no formal process for redressintg perceived racism. Doesn;t matter if you are racist or not, you have to have some (admittedly cringey, its painful facing this stuff) process because then you can demonstrate either it wasn't racist, or it was and you fixed it. Instead we went with a combination of "it never happened", "it was all resolved but we didn't write anything down" and "Lumumba is on drugs".

Geelong bought a much better player then Treloar. They even got 2 other good players.

Covid had nothing to do with our mis management. No other team gave away players for nothing.
