Thank you 76woodenspooners

One of BigFooty’s all-time-favourite posters, Reykjavik , was all across the board level stuff. He once posted a list of the responsibilities of a Not-For-Profit board like that of Collingwood …

abcdef.....ijklmnop

NFP board responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of a not-for-profit (NFP) board include:

  • Driving the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Working with the CEO to enable the organisation to obtain the resources, funds and personnel necessary to implement the organisation's strategic objectives
  • Implementing, maintaining and (as necessary) refining a system of good governance that is appropriate for the organisation
  • Reviewing reports and monitoring the performance of the organisation
  • Regularly reviewing the board's structure and composition, so that these are appropriate for the organisation
  • Appointing – and managing the performance of – a suitable CEO
  • Succession planning for the CEO
While the above points are also applicable to for-profit boards, NFP boards also face a unique range of issues, such as:

  • Difficulties in defining and measuring organisational effectiveness
  • Transgression of role boundaries
  • The negative impact of the structural compositions of some NFP boards, including those arising from representative models
  • Funding dependencies and constraints

In practice, the role of the board is to supervise an organisation's business in two broad areas:

  1. Overall business performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements strategies and supporting policies to enable it to fulfill the objectives set out in the organisation's constitution. The board delegates the day to day management of the organisation but remains accountable to the shareholders for the organisation's performance. The board monitors and supports management in an on-going way.
  2. Overall compliance performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements systems to enable it to comply with its legal and policy obligations (complying with statutes such as the Corporations Act 2001, adhering to accounting standards) and ensure the organisation's assets are protected through appropriate risk management.

Just a quick note from me, after checking in again on this thread.

I've been chatting with a lot of members since the nomination period and will continue to do so into 2022.

I discussed my campaign for the Collingwood board on the latest episode of my Sports Geek podcast.

Here is my chat with Mark Anderson a couple of years ago (pre-COVID) - https://sportsgeekhq.com/podcast/mark-anderson-collingwood/

If you need to know more if you haven't voted yet, please reach out or call me.

If you have voted, thanks for being part of this process, it's important the members get a say.

Jeff Browne, if you become president what could you do, that other presidents couldn't do, to ensure our club achieves sustained onfield success?

well done for putting yourself out there. There's a few in the ring who seem to be relying on their profile in the media or their connections around the club....

Unfortunately even after I asked the club to upgrade my membership to a Legends membership in order to vote, I wasn't allowed to do so, which is a real shame because I would have loved to have voted.

Having said that, I've found myself heavily invested for months in this saga and can't say just how much I've loved seeing you be so open with your interactions on here, Twitter and with Swoop Luke. I'd like to formally extend an invitation to come and visit /r/CollingwoodFC should you wish to further engage with the Collingwood community there.

All the very best Sean.

He's got the votes...it's simply just playing out the time.
Yep, sadly it's like owning shares in a company when it comes time to vote on anything.

As Sir Humphrey said "Never have an inquiry unless you know the outcome."

Thanks, I did think not allowing members to upgrade memberships to be allowed to vote was a missed opportunity both for revenue and member engagement. I was pushing to promote that fact as you could interpret the election bylaws to allow it. Hopefully, you can vote in the next election when Mark Korda steps down, I'd hate to have to wait another 20 years to vote again.

Thanks Sean for your participation.
I wanted to see some ‘independent’ representation on the board, hence included you when I voted yesterday.
Good luck & hope to see the the shimmy sometime soon.

I've got much more confidence in Browne than Korda. I really just want this all to be over so we can start fresh.

I like his response to pushing the AFL on the soft cap and his argument is right. If you have a soft cap on quality staff (Who generally demand $$) it's to the detriment of the players. There has to be some reward for clubs who manage their position well while still creating an equal playing field. If we aren't hiring the best medical and physio staff for instance because we have a cap on our spend, then questions need to be asked.

Jeff Browne's voice really threw me, doesn't fit the cv or his appearance at all. Sounds like a jockey, a dodgy one at that, I can't recall any leader in sports or politics with such a nasally high pitched weird voice, has zero presence about it.

SeanC , C Macdonald , appreciate you both taking part in this process and engaging here. I reckon our club is better for it.

Good luck to you both on the result. Our club would do well if either of you gets the opportunity to serve on the board.

yeah - people mistakenly believe that a man’s voice gains power by using the diaphragm

it starts lower

summation of force begins from the balls - try in front of the mirror if you need to

Joffa probably has a poor underwear game, too small, strangling his tackle

To correct the problem may require 6 weeks of free-balling (6 months if our medicos are in charge of rehab)

There are several free-balling consultants in Frankston, a couple in Seaford - none as yet in Brighton.
