Promoter's Dream Grand Finals That Haven't Happened Yet

I always thought the two sides should have organised a trophy of some kind whenever they played eachother... playing for the "Golden Magpie" or something or other. Perhaps whoever has the GM trophy, gets to wear the stripes until the other side beats them. The other side has to then wear a clash/alternative jumper until then.

Collingwood would have to wear this until the next time they beat Port.

Would certainly spice things up between Ed and Kochie.

I think we had something for John McCarthy when we played at AAMI in 2013. The two teams ran through the same banner before the game, but I can't remember if there was any medal attached to that one game.

Some others:

West Coast vs Brisbane. Both non-Vic teams sit on three premierships each (counting the premierships the Lions won as a QLD entity). Would decide which truly was the best.

Brisbane vs Sydney. The AFL would love this one. Would draw substantial interest in Australia's three biggest cities.

Hawthorn v Richmond

Would settle for a final, any final at all...

I couldn't believe this when I found out these two had never met in a final -

Not including Gold Coast and GWS for obvious reasons, Adelaide have played every team in a final except Richmond -

But when you see that Hawthorn have yet to play them either, the non- Adelaide v Richmond final doesn't seem nearly as interesting...

That's pretty amazing that Adelaide have met just about every possible club in finals.

Fremantle have played:

Geelong 3 times
Sydney 3 times
Hawthorn twice
Adelaide twice
Port once
Melbourne once
Essendon once

West Coast, St Kilda, Richmond, Bulldogs, North, Collingwood, Carlton, Brisbane never in finals.

St Kilda's GF appearances in this time have resulted in letting a winnable game against Geelong slip in the final term, and thrashings from Adelaide and Collingwood.

I do recall a draw

A Footscray v St Kilda grand final. Imagine the emotion for the side that lifts the cup. It will give the AFL and the media so much to faf on about. I would easily find it the most interesting non Hawk grand final match up. This is all provided that neither of them win a flag before it happens.

I've often said that while I wouldn't be happy, I certainly wouldn't be angry if Hawks lost to the Doggies in a GF.

The Fat Rats Clacker GF. Is a possibility in the next few years.

it would be awesome - 5+ years ago the idea was a genuinely hilarious joke. all the prototypical dumb aussie footy fans would be all "haha ****en worst granny in 50 years mate ****en gay clubs this year" but all the real footy fans around the country would be well up for it - especially if both clubs continue to grow as they are.

Would love to see any of the big Melbourne 4 play off in a GF: Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon. Would love to see another Carlton v Collingwood GF with Mick and Bucks still at the helm. Won't happen, but let a man dream.

Has been said by many, but a true promotor's dream (if the promotor is the league itself) would be GWS vs GC, the caveat being that it is in a few years time when(if) both sides have a sizeable and passionate following, and there is less chance of it being perceived as tainted due to favourable drafts. It would be vindication for the AFL's northern foray, and right now, the reslut that the AFL would be most happy about.

No two teams have met more than six times in a Grand Final:

Carlton Vs Collingwood (5-1)
Carlton Vs Essendon (3-3)
Carlton Vs Richmond (2-4)
Collingwood Vs Melbourne (1-5)
Collingwood Vs Geelong (2-4)
Collingwood Vs Richmond (4-2)

Any of these combinations to break the tie would be interesting.
