Fair to say he's made it back at home.

That video is basically why people try to make it as performing artists.

I can't imagine what goes through someone's head when you are standing on a stage watching 80 000 people in front of you smash out your song in perfect unison, it must be the best feeling in the world.

Sent chills down my spine just watching it, so yeah, wow.

Kept a straight face through most of the hitler remix but completely lost my shit when it cuts to the crowd going 'Heil!'

Judging by the absolute ferocious appetite with which this is getting consumed by mainstream media it will be a dead meme within a fortnight, but the original is brilliance personified.

i'm struggling to see the "brilliance personified" i gotta admit.... sure it's catchy tune that, as tends to be the case in modern day society, has snowballed into a huge following but that's really it...

It's an interesting, and ultimately unanswerable question which applies to any creative work which has gotten hugely popular- how much of it is due to specific things about the work, and how much is dumb luck- I often wonder that about things like Harry potter- are they really good books which perfectly strike a chord with lots of people out there, or are they utterly commonplace and just subject to complete freak luck.

I do think gangnam is a very clever song which has a lot objectively going for it- yes its catchy, and when you think about it a lot of memes seem to involve someone overweight going off their trolley in some way shape or form so it is immediately onto a winner in that regard- but I think where this song really nails it is it is satirical, but in such an intensely deadpan way that for western viewers find its hard to figure out precisely why- that sense of not being quite in on the joke appeals to people, and makes people keep coming back, and keep showing it to their friends.

I went through it line by line with some Koreans I know and there is a lot going on. A couple of comments which I thought were interesting (I realize a lot of this has been said already but anyway)

- apparently going horse riding is about the most ridiculously pretentious and opulent thing someone could do in Seoul, even more so than here. Hence the whole dance thing and the reason a lot of the scenes have horses.

- a lot of the stuff about wanting a girl who appreciates her coffee, and is sensible during the day but crazy at night, is sarcastically taking the piss out of a subculture of girls in seoul who scrimp on basic essentials and eat the absolute cheapest food possible during the day so they can afford Starbucks coffee and be seen out clubbing.

You have put too much time into a stupid pop fad song.

Tbh I haven't fully listened to this song and at first was wtf is this shit but have come to the conclusion that every decade since the 60s needs a faddish stupid pop song to get stupid ppl and bogans to act like ******s on the dance floor.

The last ****** pop fad was macarena I think.

Still it's an awful song no matter how fun ppl try to paint it.

Lol just been announced as an act for Future Music Festival.. will he seriously just rock up to each state and do just the one song?

More importantly, will be interesting to see if its still going strong or jumped the shark by next year!

Hopefully the song has jumped it by then to the point that its just a novelty song played at RSL clubs for older bogans to act all ******ed and at future he is booed and only a handfull of people are watching.

I cannot believe he is playing at a music festival..if anything it will be full of korean teenagers who love their K-POP which if you have seen it is terrible but ever so popular. K-POP is seriously terrible..its like a karaoke version of the backstreet boys meet one direction..horrid.

People reacting like it's the best song ever written plays a big part in the hate. Read some of the reactions in this thread.

it's essentially bad 90s club music. Think Barbie Girl and all that shit.

Have to admit I had alot of love for the Gangnam Style 6 weeks ago, but our footy trip to Adelaide over the weekend ruined it for me.

Think I would of heard it in the Woolshed no less than 10 times on saturday night.

Thanks for nothing Adelaide.

I understand that people don't like it , but the hate for it is unbelievable..

It's one of those hipster things. People liked it when it was underground then hated it when it became popular.

Having said that I never understood the fuss from the start and likened it to LMFAO with korean lyrics.

90's bad club music is far superior to trance/techno/house music today

Mortal Kombat theme is vastly underappreciated
