Posters on Bomberblitz went through a bunch of Dodoro's most ridiculous quotes after drafts. Some of them were pearlers, such as Marty Gleeson having the potential of becoming an elite midfielder and that Aaron Francis could play anywhere: defence, forward and midfield. But the thing that struck the most was how he saw nearly every player as capable of one day being a midfielder for us. He was, and is, a ludicrously inept and delusional man.

To be fair according to list managers every player is a steal and depending on position is comparable to Rance, Enright, Voss, Cousins, Betts, Carey or Cox, respectively

This more highlights the decision to trade for Shiel and not trade Daniher the year earlier as incredibly poor decisions that were obviously wrong at the time they were made then poor drafting imo.

Poor old Mozzie.

Given how many in here have said development of the list has also been a problem, I do wonder if his career would've panned out differently had he not been caught up in a Dildoro pissing contest?

Maybe, would he have done his knee at another club?

I always get the impression that Dodoro is actually a genuinely nice guy who's been trying to solve the Essendon list puzzle for a while and some of the picks he's made actually made a lot of sense at that time. For example, Stringer, Saad and Smith, I actually agreed with that at the time and thought it was a good idea, it didn't really pay off over time, except for Stringer who played a good few years as a hybrid player. There are other examples of this. But i think he has had just plain old bad luck with the saga and players who had the potential but the club just couldn't follow through, when the picks were are a good idea.

I think what we have lacked is a genuine, quality KPP forward, small or full, although Wright has potential.

I actually do wonder how much of our poor seasons come down to the coaching, fitness side just not getting through to the players.

  • Lack of positive and mental confidence at playing the game.(seems to be a thing)
  • Lack of strength and conditioning, fitness. (we look like a skinny, small, underdone VFL side a lot of the time).
  • Lack of marking ability, overhead, contested, leading etc, is really poor, has been for years.
  • Players don't look like they are playing for each other, linking up, running and defending etc.

I also wonder, how much of this could also be players self management. The great players practice a lot in their own time etc..

All i see here is #indodowetrust

One more trade and draft period Essendon then sack him. For entertainment value at least.

Imagine being so objectively bad at your job with no consequences.
Maybe it's time for Dodo as PM, I mean ScoMo was shitter than a blocked S-Bend and got the top job. As for consequences, he's still hanging around and smelling like the aformentioned S-Bend, but politicians never do get consequences, they just move on to the next step in the politico career-path and get a nice sinecure as a board member or lobbyist for the companies that they once dealt with when in parliament. Perfect of Adrian.

He's got all the credentials to win an election: outlasts his opponnents, probably has a dirt file, and has self-confidence to burn.

When did Labor voters become like vegans?

"How can you tell they are a Labor voter? Don't worry, they'll tell you.."

Surely you're not trying to deflect to actually defend Dodoro's record at his job?

Based purely on games played 2020 and 21 don’t seem bad

Talent identification hasn’t been Essendon’s core problem. Failing at that forces your club into extended rebuilds like that of the Blues or North as recent examples.

Essendon’s issue is they have consistently overrated the list when it gets anywhere near making the finals.

Which leads to decisions like:

- Signing up list cloggers to long term deals (Stewart, Laverde, Kelly, Smith, Zaharakis)

- Trading two first rounders for Dylan Shiel. Dylan Shiel could have been the best player in the comp and it wouldn’t have been enough to drag Essendon’s list to any meaningful success

- Forcing Daniher to stay and not accepting a fair trade for him

It’s crazy how the cycle just keeps repeating with no one intervening it’s not like Essendon has gone close to assembling a genuinely good side.

also not drafting for need. your KPPs have been diabolically bad for years and years.

but you have an overflow of decent small mids and flankers. what for?

Not sure lack KPP talent haw been the issue in list construction but do agree that the overall list balance has lacked a cohesive vision.

Essendon has been rebuilding since the Daniher departure and their list should be critiqued through that lense. Not that the failings prior to that aren’t on Dodoro’s record and up for discussion in this thread.

Essendon selling the farm for Devon Smith, Dylan Shiel and Stringer will never not be funny.

surely not taking the Daniher deal the year before FA is just as bad. Stringer at least they didn't pay too much for it. Shiel was a disaster though, GWS are laughing to the bank
