Dodgy think you are mistaking the morning side who played in the states best comp 10 years ago to the morning side that is playing in a standard not significantly better than did 1 footy this year. Certainly the conversations coming out of aflq are that qafl footy has dropped away in recent years across the board. No doubt quality footy in the top 2 or 3 teams but not the depth there was. Can't say I agree with this, and its one of the problems in SEQ footy in the last few years.
A good club, who has a good player of QAFL ability that is (using an arbritary measure) under 25 should push them to play at a higher level. The likes of Wynnum, Vic Point, Coorparoo etc should be pushing blokes to the Siders or Redland. The likes of Kedron, Mayne, Redcliffe etc etc should be pushing guys to Aspley or Sandgate. The likes of Pirates, Logan etc etc should be pushing guys to Mt Gravatt and the likes of Ipswich, Jindalee, Kenmore, Moorooka etc should push people to the Western Magpies.
This is how a good system works.
The insular nature of these clubs is getting out of hand and the big picture is getting missed.
If clubs had these young players absolute best interests at heart, instead of worrying about their own backyard - this is exactly what they would do (and did in fact use to do!)
Hiding some kid at the lower levels benefits nobody in the long run, and its just bad practice.
*Disclaimer: yes, I'm from Morningside. Yes, we have benefited greatly from quality kids in the eastern suburbs coming to us from other clubs. However, yes we have also sent guys to those clubs in return who have played Juniors at the Siders and aren't QAFL prospects.

Don't think you've done yourself any favours putting it on a forum saying your disappointed that other people got into his ear.

Now not sure clubs like Maroochydore, Caloundra, Noosa have any obligation to send their better young players to any qafl side when they are developing and creating their own for either senior footy or to play neafl/ afl footy. Send the blokes to Aspley or Redlands but morning side, grange, Sandgate... Nup. They can do their own work with their own juniors and recruiting. One of the biggest sleights on coast footy is that a bloke goes and trains at Aspley with all the backing and support of their local club, only to be told that their local club, when they aren't playing at Aspley, will now become a Sandgate or whatever the aflq choose. That's madness. Player hates it, local club can't understand why. Qafl clubs sits back and has aflq do their recruiting for them. This needs to change IMO. Makes for lazy footy clubs..
Pretty sure why this young fella in question went to parkridge is because he wants the Redbacks to stay together. If he was to go to a Qafl club and a few were to go to different other clubs the core group of players from the redders would be no more. I commend the young fella on his actions on having his home teams interest best interest at heart.

Park Ridge must be overflowing if they have picked up another 15-20 blokes from the Redbacks.
Shame you don't have lights Blocker!
It my mail is right all the above are playing at the pirates .So correct in saying that jimboomba no longer have a team and have merged with Park Ridge? Appears some jimboomba boys think this will be helping their club in a couple years, dunno about that. Surely Guise, Rooks and maybe Tomlinson aren't playing thirds?
Thomo got better lights than Sherwood mate. Our problem is the lighting to car park is no existent so we have major liability issue.
But will be sorted this year so definitely night games next year mate.
Shouldn't be an issue. No lights in the carpsrk at heaps of clubs!

Back in 2012, aflq were given a directive from the afl to have 120 clubs up and running by 2030 across the whole state of qld. Your comment is spot on lensen.no doubt KPIs tied to bonuses have a growth component in terms of club numbers
Is anyone able to pinpoint the exact year the transition occurred when it became more important to play for a premiership rather than playing for your own club ??
