Broadbeach ,, just didnt turn up today ,, as has occured 3 other times this season ,,, we had a good side in with a few injured players from a few weeks ago back in but wow ,, like we just were not there on game day ,, a big concern here for the coaching heirachy
Something for them to think about is that player points today were 47 for Broady and 29 for Mt Gravatt who played 19 x 1 pointers.

Yeah agree, points have nothing to do with it really. They could have had an off day mixed with the vultures boys playing under the interim coach for the first time. Very common occurrence when a club loses a coach they always seem to win the week after

Congrats to Sherwood who had a win also and Maroochydore appear to have competed with Aspley. How about Surfers up into 4th spot with a resounding win?

Good to see some underdogs keeping the comp a bit intriguing.
Maroochy much better than position on ladder imo. Have a great % which often tells you something about a sides ability to compete every week. Had a tough draw but if they can get on a roll for this back end of the year could be a smokey for finals still.

SMY, Maroochydore are part of what is clearly an equalisation draw where they have been grouped to get all the top sides twice. Definitely better than their ladder position suggests.

Also the drive from one coast to the other up to 4 times a year (plus potentially in finals) is probably not given the credit of the challenge it presents.

Give the vultures some credit, they’ve obviously played well to beat a good football side
Damo,
absolutely agree,,, The Vultures played better footy all day and deserved to win.. Number 17 be it Leahy had a blinder in the midfield and Number 4 in Dylan Smith was a focal point with good leads and marks on the forward line .. and that Numberb6 in Licht is a good player.

Allies National Champs!!!! First time ever
From averaging 1 win per year to winning the overall champs is quite amazing. Congrats to anyone involved that reads this forum. Outstanding effort and vindicates a lot of the work done by both academies and clubs in this part of the world with so many of the side coming out of Qld.

Yeah very true LB - most of the blokes enjoy it but even still it's a big day with that Bruce and M1 being problematic at times!

Not bad when you have an ex AFL coach steering the ship. But an amazing effort

Not taking anything away from the Allies, but WA and SA were very, very poor. Only slightly better were Vic Metro, and a rung above were Vic Country.

Then the Allies benefited from the strongest crop of Tassie boys in more than a decade, coupled with the strongest crop of academy kids (thanks Gold Coast) and a few very handy Riverina boys on the right side of the border.

There's very little in the way of top end midfield talent apart from the Allies boys. Vic Metros best game was when they played 3 bottom aged boys through their midfield.

First time ever they’ve beaten all 4 so it is significant no matter which way you want to spin it

I went to the Magpies vs Panthers game on the weekend. Good effort for Sherwood to finally notch a win, though it was a horrendous game of footy and not a great standard at all.

Notables were that Shaquille Macleod is going to be a very very good payer when he gets going and learns the game. Dylan Swann was solid for the Panthers also.

Fletcher for Sherwood an absolute class above, alongside Edwards #22.

However, most notable was the 16 year old Ryan Gilder who did a number on the highly fancied Kegan Downie. Big job to give to a teenager, but he slaughtered him. briztoon - you should find the tape of this game if you want a look at one of your best academy prospects.

Also, despite all of the above, both teams being pretty average - the atmosphere was electric, must have been 1500+ people there, way more than I expected for a bottom of the table clash.

Also, outstanding win from Mt Gravatt, as Broadbeach look to have had a pretty strong side in, Noosa over Labrador would have to be an upset as well - and surprised by the lack of comment here for the absolute bath that Surfers gave to Grange. Surfers are a real a sleeper team. Look forward to the 'coaches corner' article from Moloney, though they only seem to pop up after a win ;)

Coaches Corner is so good. 5000 words of nothingness that only follow a win. Nice paragraph structure though.

Good summary mate but with both Lions and Suns 16's having very good years as well (Lions won Div 2) you would think there might be some more coming through (Miller alluded to one).
I still think the mixture of senior footy and academy footy is the best development a kid can have vs playing in the Coates league and predominantly playing U18 footy. Ok, QAFL isn't VFL or SANFL but its a good standard where the best kids will showcase wares against some very good senior footballers, esp when U16/17.
