Vs Swans it was an uphill battle from the outset they had our measure across the board and we had no answers. I don't see how anyone can gain confidence on a 4 week turn around going off that game given its also going to be at the SCG which suits them more then us.
If we do beat Freo, wouldn't the game be at MCG given we finished higher?

We’re clearly good enough

Some players stood up, others will be better for the experience

We reload and we go again

Go Pies!

This x 1000

We're in it up to our eyeballs.

It'll be a masterful performance to reload and win next week.

From there, it's dead set game on.

We missed some sitters and were done straight up the backside by those 3 pieces of sh1t in yellow.

Bring on next week.

The AFL got what they wanted a Geelong win. That was one of the most one sided umpiring displays I’ve ever seen in a final.
Sidebottom looks cooked to me.Slipping over at the end which cost us the game pretty well summed up his entire game,

Mihocek was disgraceful, kicking and marking wise.He never provided a contest in the air all day.I don’t know what’s wrong with him,but he’s clearly not right.

Adams groins are stuffed. We desperately need a replacement for him next year,

If T.Mitchell only costs us a 3rd rounder then it's a no brainer. We are craving an extractor in the middle and he is the man for next season.

Higher than who?

We win next week, we play Sydney at the SCG in the Prelim.

Let's just get through next week.
Sorry (loki04) got it wrong.

You are right Sydney finished higher than us on the ladder.

JB1975, I am going to forensically watch replay and report back to you with timestamps on questionable umpiring decisions for both sides.
It might be in a few weeks time though as not sure I can watch again so soon.;)

Whether they had any real influence on the final score, I am not sure but there were a couple of shockers that were momentum swingers.

Unfortunately if we don’t win it this year then we won’t for a long time. Our next rung of players in the VFL is not up to it. We basically have no mids coming through. Fin is ok but we don’t need ok we need stars. We are going to lose a number of older players in the next year or so and I just don’t see the kids being any good. Nick is a star, light framed small body who will do well. AJ is a good hybrid forward. Apart from that……. So the loss was very disappointing we’ve been very lucky this season
Lol such a negative view. This year showed how quickly you can turn things around if you have the right coaching structure and a balanced list.

We have Naicos, Fin, Reef all as first rounder mids coming through to take over from Pendles/Sidey/Adams who we don't rely on that much anymore. They're kids by definition. You can't expect them to be stars from day one unless you're Naicos. But even with Naicos you're saying he's too light. It's like you expect first rounders to come instantly mature and stars.

A couple of smart mature age recruits like Ash/Carmichael/Lipinski and you're very quickly filling key holes on the list.

Absolutely gutted at the result. but with that said conflicted and proud that this group just has a crack week in week out. and whilst it's not great for the heart we know that we are in for a chance in every game. Whilst Freo isn't an easy-beat, however I think that their game style better suits us then the doggies. from there flip a coin against Sydney. we had our opportunities against them so lessons learnt from last month.

Not here to stick the boot in just wanted to say that game rivalled the famous 2007 PF for intensity and the 2009 GF as the most high pressure games I’ve seen and Collingwood did themselves proud.

My take from first look is that for two quarters you dominated and we were fortunate that you were a bit fumbly and didn’t probably convert as well as you should have and we were probably the same during the time we had the game more on our terms. There were so many desperate efforts from both sides it was an amazing game to watch - and that was on an iPhone on a music stand with no sound on.

Good luck next week, commiserations on the result but you should be very proud
Classy post PhatBoy. Well done.

First time I ever went to the G last night and it was an amazing experience. TV doesn't do justice to the Colosseum that the MCG is. The umpiring was atrocious, though and given the close score and lack of calls, you can't help but feel as if there might have been a memo sent to the officials to keep it close. Another odd thing was Vic Police. For a finals match, you'd think there would be plenty out in force but they were more interested in taking photos than dealing with fans. If the AFL wants to know why fans don't attend the footy, then they should sit in the stands as a normal fan and walk out as a normal fan, rather than plonking in a cushy box.

Player stats. Thoughts at the game was why didn't Cox take more of the centre bounces and didn't understand why he spent so much time on the bench only to see that he spent 46% TOG. Their HO numbers are pretty much the same, didn't think it was one of Cameron's best games.
Moore was outstanding IMO as was Captain Courageous, may he continue for a few more years. Rarely beaten.

I think considering how much we bombed it up forward with no targets it was a bad move not having Cox up forward more

The Cox TOG is odd. He looked OK when on - stuck a few marks and had some good follow ups. Maybe it was something to do with the matchups, and Cameron doing his bit? But Geelong are a tall team, so? If it was to do with a different 'finals' strategy from the coaches, I'm not sure it worked.

Yep. I personally think we lost a bit of the dare that has been getting us over the line. Got to make sure we continue to take it on.

Perhaps the cats were set up really well defensively, but I had a bad feeling when JDG made that beautiful play out of defence to hit someone in the centre square. It felt like we should have been off to the races with a shot on goal, but the next two possessions were a bit non-committal/safe.
