Hey Legends,

AJ here Coach of Southport Sharks QFA side. We’re having trouble getting someone to commit to playing us in a practice game - we’re looking to get one together for a Friday Night on our deck if possible?

Preferably someone in a different division to ours if possible.

Cheers 🍻

Not a huge number teams in both div 3 comps. 6 teams in div 3 north and 7 teams in div 3 south. Div 4 north will probably only have 6-7 again. And Div 4 south will most likely have about 10 teams again.

April 12 is my mail.

Seems to be a simple solution if we have 30 teams. 3 divisions, ~10 teams each?

Split them any way you want

North, Central, South?
Too much hand wringing around who is better than who in a Friday night comp - which can change from year to year to year. I'm not sure there is a hell of a lot of "building an empire" around FNF which is fair enough. Put the teams in comps based purely on geography from Div 3 & 4 and let water find its own level. There will be some smashings, there will be some super games, like any comp in Australia tbf.

Until you’re the club on the receiving end of said smashings on a regular basis and you don’t have a team.

Good thing you’re not involved in club development
Yea much better to be trying to find enough players to travel 200km round trip on a Fri night instead.
Clubs play in competitions all the time around Australia where beltings occasionally occur. It's not an unusual experience. Reckon 3x10 teams in a north/central/south comp would be fine.

I’d say most people would rather drive longer for a even game then get flogged every week by your neighbour.

According to AFLQ, Fri night clubs rank less travel as the biggest priority, competitiveness was a distant 2nd.

And let's face it, with the year to year changes, unless AFLQ want to rate team lists (god help us), they have little chance of avoiding the discrepancies in performance.

Having said that, if you have a team getting pumped by all opponents in their vicinity their priority may change! The old Ipswich Cats always seemed to keep going, but I think they were an exception.

It’s funny how everyone’s a bit different in how to do it, eg. Locality, grade the lists etc. However in every comp across Australia someone finishes first and someone last. Can’t change it.

However the Friday night comps have definitely changed in the past 2 years. There used to be one or two drives up or down the coasts, and every 2nd week for the coast sides up or down to BrisVegas. Plus there is a big Ipswich region flavour now.

Now we have more teams from both coasts due to Freddy’s influence, good looks and charm. Interesting on how he influences with his high level contacts at AFLQ on how to proceed.

Yea agree. If there wasn’t other options though. But there is. Put all the sides in. Their respective areas and there will be strong ones and weak ones. Far more likely the weak sides will improve and attract players if the new players know they don’t need to travel 250km to have a social kick. Its madness.
