Ok. I’ll then ask you the question. Why can players move up and down from seniors to ressies and vice versa on a Saturday with near no restrictions, but doing so on a Friday team so abhorrent?
because on a Saturday you are playing in a competition that has seniors and reserves, Friday night, last time I checked, they were 2 different comps called north and south. It's not for a footy club to decide which is more or less important to them and therefore make one comp more or less legitimate (in their own opinion).
The obvious issue would always be as well that if say for example the south comp had a couple of cracking sides in it that Coops had no chance of knocking over but saw the north comp as much slimmer pickings - which they only realised 6 -7 games in. Suddenly they do a 180' because the holy grail of winning a div 3 premiership can be realised and stack the north side because you are allowed to shift players left and right. Nah not for me. Pick a comp you want to play in and stick to it. And be made to stick to it.

Yeah totally agree SMY.If that’s the mindset then absolute garbage!

Agree SMY,

But now that more clubs will most likely have two teams in the Friday space next year. What are the requirements?

Do they have a restricted list like they do in the juniors with two teams? With the original team being the ‘seniors’ and allocate 15 or so blokes that can’t ‘drop’ or move to the other team. And what’s the requirement in players moving from the second side to the main side?

Have to wait and see I guess. But can’t have blokes just moving up and down willy nilly.

I think you’re over analysing it. The clubs that want to do it are prepping for Saturday’s in 2026. You’d assume aflq want as many clubs playing Saturday’s as possible and leaving Friday nights to 3rds and clubs that can only field one team.

Think Coops are already playing Saturdays GA. If the others are looking to do it, fantastic. Doesn't stop anyone from running 2 sides that are of relatively even strength and see how you go making finals in 2 comps....

I think BP you need to submit 2 lists of players for 2 different comps (which is nothing like what LB has used as an analogy with reserves/seniors on a Saturday). I assume if you want to run 2 sides you will have 50+ players wanting to play for you on a Friday night plus a few fill ins at different times.

I think way too many variables to have 2 Friday night sides especially if competition is localised. I know most Friday night sides used in excess 40 players during the season for one side! If you have enough for 2 sides go to Saturday’s!!

Coorparoo were granted concession to help them field Colts in the coming season when they make the leap to QAFL. The fact they made a mockery of it should tell HQ they should hammer the lid back tightly on Pandoras Box.

Want two sides? Then grow a set and get a plan to play Saturday. Pine did it and Eagles did it.

Even the notion you have one team in one regional comp and another in a different one makes a mockery of the regional aspect AND the reasoning HQ is using to make it more regionalised.

I don’t disagree with any of that SMY. Only thing I’d say though is that I don’t think Coorparoo nominated for Div 3 North but were only put there after another club refused to go up so therefore whatever the grading performed was is what created that scenario, not Coorparoo themselves.

I still chuckle that the official reason for the granting of the 2nd team this year was due to a transition of having Colts in 2025, yet no players were Colts age.

Anyway, It’ll Be interesting if the clubs with 2 teams are scheduled to play in the same region in 2025. So they play each other? Not sure that is any more palatable.

That I think is officially called "pulling the wool over HQ's eyes"....

Not sure we can get mad at all these clubs where their Friday night teams are their ‘seniors’ for wanting a second team.

I think we forget Coorparoo. A team which is going QAFL next year, with a very strong seniors and ressies in div 1 and an already strong Friday night team was granted a second Friday night team. Where there were players being swapped between both teams this year. I don’t see them losing that second team after just one year.

Jimboomba tried to go back to Saturdays this year and didn’t work out and lost a coach as well. I’m sure they’ll go for a second one as well.

Moorooka and Eagles are teams that have had a tough last 2-3 years and fell back to Friday nights. I know personally Eagles will want to be back in Saturdays and be the premier Ipswich team again. From what I have heard about Moorooka, they have the same aims. As I would assume AFLQ would be ensuring they go Saturday in 2026 once those two teams are granted along with Pacific Pines as well. Floodgates were open and these are the results.

I’ve been watching over this forum for a for almost a year without an account but thought I’d finally say something

I am someone who has been involved with Ipswich AFL for 7+ years as a player. Unfortunately it seems like the dysfunctional systems from previous years will stop Ipswich from succeeding in being competitive in Saturday football.

With other clubs around the area having to big of Egos. Past leadership letting the club down and city clubs like Sherwood getting the most talented players from the cats or eagles from about 13 years old and older onwards it seems like it will be a struggle for footy in Ipswich to succeed in Saturday footy which is a shame because there is talent in Ipswich

There is absolutely no reason Ipswich region can’t have a powerful Saturday club(s). There are several clubs in the region with Cats, Eagles, Rattlers, Power & now Storm looking like turning into a mega club. There are definitely good footy people and certainly some talent.

There is maybe some cannibalism between some but if you look north you’ll see Redcliffe, Zillmere, Sandgate, Pine Rivers are all in a similar area to the spread of Ipswich clubs and then they also have Moreton Bay in Div 1 as well as Aspley in QAFL, so the Sherwood shadow you speak of is probably not dissimilar for those clubs.

What you’ve said is true but it hasn’t taken the full picture into account.

For example the 5 north teams combine for 91 junior teams compared to the 5 Ipswich teams that combined for 34 junior teams.

Or that 8 U15 or U17s in the 5 north teams compared to the 1 U15 team in Ipswich.

What is true is that Springfield definitely have the potential to become a big club

Yeronga, Jindalee, Sherwood and Kenmore junior teams get filled with Ipswich talent from U13s upwards and I think it would be a lot more then those north clubs

Maybe it’s time for the eagles and cats to kiss and make up? Hasn’t really worked since they spilt ???

Nah mate aflq knew it wasn't full of colts before the season even started.
It was simply a way of keeping the numbers at the club.
They made it happen and now the goal posts have moved and there's plenty of ammunition for others to follow.
They allowed it to happen and to reject other clubs now would be an even bigger kick in the nuts than before.
So two teams it is and it's just a matter of setting some rules and guidelines.

I understand to some it’s just ‘social’ footy. But it’s a bit unfair to bring along the Friday night comps BnF’s to the community awards night and not even bother to post them on SEQ Footy or AFLQ fb pages.

Only found out who won div 3 and 4 south due to the winners own clubs posting it. Who won div 3 and 4 north?

Who we’re the 4 and what clubs do they play for?
Div 3 South - Will McAdam (Coorparoo)*
Div 3 North - Quentin Ross (Caloundra)
Div 4 South - Justice Kennedy (Eagles)
Div 4 North - Will Hueppauff (Sandgate)

*Noting Jacob Huisman from Collingwood Park won the count but was ineligible.

Freddy has lodged a new rule to AFLQ that states that all these players, and those in the top 5, are to be ineligible for Friday night footy in 2025 and must now repent for their sins and report to him for allocation to a Saturday team.
