We live right on the River just above the Toowong reach, we have steep bank of lawn down to the river of about 8 meters. At high tide today the water was 3 metres from our garage area. We have moved everything out of the garages and left the car at the top of a hill. Will continue to monitor the water. Our Unit is 3metres above the 1974 flood level.
Today we watched several large pontoons and a van float past very quickly, followed by a speed boat carrying a jetski attached to a pontoon. Another speedboat followed later. The river is moving very fast and it is a bit scary thinking of what is to come.
We have stocked up with water, batteries and food that will keep without power and most people here are going to stay and see it out. Everyone is looking out for each other and staying very positive, but we have an evacuation bag packed.

Most. Apt. Username. Ever.

Stay safe.

Devastating. We are up here on the Sunny Coast. There's no flood threat were we live. I hope everyone is safe and heeds the warnings, life before property. One of my daughters lives in Brisbane. She is safe but they are in a borderline flood area. Both her and the boyfriend were sent home from work before midday.

I hope everyone stays well and safe. Best wishes from up here.

Feel bloody useless stuck here. Normally a quick run to Stafford would be no drama's. If anyone is really close by to them, the sandbagging volunteer centres are still calling for people to help, right now, at 7 Brockman Street, Stafford, and at Shamrock Street, Darra. The QPS facebook & twitter pages are updating as they require volunteers.

Anyone looking for info, the following sites are extremely useful

Queensland Police Service Twitter Feed

Queensland Police Service Facebook page - Full of links to relevant information

Brisbane Flood Info (BCC) - Links to flood maps, latest road closure information, etc.

1300 993 191 - Flood Info Hotline for anyone concerned about relatives

132 500 - SES

The road closures this morning are extensive, and the rail bridge at Petrie was damaged, so even that link is down up here. Just stay safe everyone. Best of luck to us all.

As much as we like to bicker with each other on here these situations bring us together and i seriously hope all you guys that live in Brissy and/or have family there are all o.k. and we wish you all well in a terrible time.

Devastating time and cant imagine what some people are going through up there and be safe.

Chism.

Have seen on the Carlton board, a thread where some of the Blues supporters are offering thoughts and prayers and wanting to start a collection fund etc..

Even though I am in melb. I thought this was a lovely gesture......haven't noticed anything similiar on other team boards..

As Chism says, we may bicker and abuse each other at times, but these sort of terrible situations bring us all together.... thanks to all those blues:thumbsu:

Thoughts are with my fellow Lions and hope you and yours have escaped the night unscathed and get through the day likewise..

Re: How good is this rain?!

My thots are with our QLD supporters. Hoping and trusting that you will come out safe - all the best guys.

At least one river system has dropped this morning.

Took this yesterday afternoon.

This I took this morning, from the same spot.

Saw this out on Vores Rd, Whiteside this morning. Seemed a rather apt scene.

Also on a theme of best wishes and safety…

Thoughts go out to all that are effected by these events – had assisted the SES patching a levee bank protecting the township of Barwon Heads during the floods of 1995 – Yes it's a tough call but please try to remember -- property can be replaced, lives cannot – keep safe!

Sister was evacuated from Chelmer at about 5 am this morning. She had to wade through half a metre of water to get out. The house had gone under in 74 so probably for the best by the sounds of it.

Haggis - from an admittedly selfish perspective, thanks for uploading those shots and photos - my folks live in the Petrie/Whiteside area and while they tell me they're all ok, the photos bring a few things home for me.

And good on you for giving the flood water boogie boarders a blast - SES are going to be stretched enough without having to deal with stupidity.

Thought exactly the same thing. Glad they're ok. :thumbsu:

Wish I could see the same dissipation of water Haggis. The level of water has risen severely at the end of the street I am. Very hard to sleep. I kept waking up and going to look.
Maybe a subliminal King Cnute attempt at to hold the tide back:).
.
Thinking of you John it must be awful just waiting, hope all goes well for you.

I don't really know what to say after seeing what we have on TV over the past few days. I guess the easiest thing to say is that I wish everyone up north all the best for the coming difficult time.

Good luck to you all.

One thing can be assured. Australians support Australians in trouble. Just like we have in the past (and as shown more recently after the fires down here in 2009) we'll help out again. So just get through the next few days guys.

cheers.

My brother-in-law owns a business (including property) on Margaret St close to the Port Office. They've sandbagged and moved all they can up to the second storey. Just hoping it's enough. Might be going for a mercy dash this afternoon.

Either way, I know where I'll be cleaning up later on in the week.
