Queensland Floods

Just heard that my friend has stayed at his place in Milton and now the waters are within 100m. I have offered to drive him to another friends place as I have a clear route from the northern suburbs (plus I doubt he will find a taxi at this time). Only issue is his phone is almost out of battery and power has already been cut to his place. I'm hoping he is gonna be alright. Just can't believe he would leave it this late.

Hey guys,
been a trying few days to say the least! A little advice - No amount of bravery (or stupidity) will stop the water, stay out of it!! My advice is to keep yourselves, loved ones and strangers alike safe, and when the time comes, roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty and help out your fellow human being. It's going to be a long road back to normality for a lot of folks. If you can't help someone directly, donate blood, food, shelter or even a shoulder for someone to lean on. every little bit helps.

Best of luck eastern friends

Gotta say, I've been rather impressed with the response from all levels on government. Knowing first-hand that resources are already stretched, they have performed admirably.

My boss (one of many :D) worked in the emergency command centre during Cyclone Larry and he said only the other day how chaos reigns at these places, so to get so much done in such a short space of time is remarkable. I hope some questions are asked about the resources BOM has and the recent automation in their offices, but that's for another time.

Looking forward to rolling up the sleeves in the coming days and helping those I know (and prehaps those I don't) recover as quickly as possible.

The key with Bligh is that she actually looks like she gives a shit! Gillard looks uncomfortable and like she needs to be coached and told what to say and do! Rudd has been unbelievable in this electorate. That bloke is bloody amazing!

Good luck to those in the line of flood water tonight!

Anyone else concerned when they see footage of people driving over bridges, the amount of water that has been surging under these bridges at force never seen before.

Seeing the foundations of bridges and roads completely washed away in some of the worst hit areas, I hope they have engineers checking out the main bridges over the Brisbane river before they are re-opened.

The foundations of buildings should be ok, given the water is slowly creeping up, but bridges over these raging waterways make me very nervous.

Firstly I would like to say, through barracking for the Brisbane Lions, I have meet some dear friends from Queensland, (Im a Melbourne based fan) and my thoughts are with all our brothers and sisters up north.

Stay safe all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Secondly, as the damage from this disaster will take years to fix, and a lot of money, a thought came to me; I would love the the AFL to donate any proceeds they make (not what the clubs make as thats our bread and butter, but the AFL's cut that they get) from any Lions vs Gold Coast games for the next 2-3 years.

(Apologies if someone has already posted a similar thought, I haven't read through this entire thread yet)

Just walked down the centenary highway to the jindalee bridge which has police tape over it now and the water looks a few metres away from underneath the bridge yet. Not sure why we were allowed to walk so far down without being told to stay away because there was a coffin sitting where the SES were standing with their boats minutes before we walked over.

King Wally isn't going down without a fight, just like in his playing days :thumbsu: ...

I really am hoping that each and everyone of you who are living in Brisbane are safe and are ok This is so heartbreaking and sad to watch such an awesome capital like ours get demolished the way it has been :( This all is starting to remind me of the Titanic the movie ( yes very different) but just seeing the water destroy everything Its so cruel and horrible.

I know I've had my differences with some of you in my 5 years of been on BF But I would be absolutely devastated if anything happen to any of you:(

Does anyone on here live around New Farm? I would really appreciate an update, as I have an apartment there.
