just because you wander around bumping into things because you are gazing at buildings taller than 3 stories, doesnt make Melbourne ugly.

Short buildings with tall sticks (Q1, the upside down lolipop) to help them falsely claim they're higher than genuinely tall buildings like Eureka !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gold Coast the "Sports capital"? Ummmmmmm, yeah, sure thing. Nothing wrong with dreaming big, but some realism wouldn't go astray FFS.

T'toes

If Gold Coast has a chance of being the sporting capital, then Bendigo has a chance of being an interesting place.

Neither are going to happen

The Cold Coast as a city looks good but has no soul and history, it doesnt give you that city kinda feeling, more like its just one big developement, like the Docklands in melbourne, all looks fine but feels so fake.

Why would GC want to be like the 1800's sort of cities like Melbourne, with lame trams and moss covered cobblestone streets? I'm afraid you guys are living in the past if you think Melbourne is some sort of cultured city like Paris or Rome etc. You guys talk it up like its some sort of world landmark.

This would be different to them playing at the Dome how?

I guess 10,000 more empty seats...

;)

There were around 50k at the North vs Geelong game, footy in Melbourne was all about supporters of two clubs going to the game. It creates a great game atmosphere and Melbourne is the best place to watch footy at.

It is something I wouldn't expect you to understand in tunnel-vision land.

Kirra, Southport, Broadbeach, Burleigh, Greenmount, etc. etc. all shit on anything Melb. has in beaches. And let's not get started on the Sunshine Coast.

And I do wonder at people saying the GC isn't a city. And let's face it Melbourne is big and a sporting mecca, but it's bloody ugly too.

Of course the Gold Coast has better beaches, but not all of us are part-reptilian mongs who think that lying down on a strip of sand shaving years off our lives via skin cancer is the best thing going.

You do realise Melbourne is widely considered in international circles to be a creative and foodie mecca?

As regards cultured, Paris is still cultured - although its most dynamic culture is in the banleiues (sp?).

Rome is not cultured - it just has lots of old stuff and up themselves inhabitants who think that just because their ancestors built nice buildings 2000 years ago, we should overlook the fact that the city is corrupt, dirty, smoggy, ill-managed and flooded with shifty pickpockets.

Clutching at straws...Brisbane's & GC biggest issues is its lack of soul and culture.

As for lame trams are you stupid?? Public transport on the Coast sucks & Brisbane's aint that much better, you try going out in Surfers then wait for a taxi home.

Yep, we just sit in the sun and wish and pray that that we could be in the sleet, smog, rain, hail that is Melbourne.

Seriously, what is it with Vics, that they have to put shit on every other capital city in Aus. Is it to make themselves feel better?

I don't get it, and I don't see thousands of Queenslanders moving to Vic. but do see thousands of Vics moving to Queensland. Why is that?

We put shit on other cities coz our city is better.

Oh, and the people who move to the GC from Melbourne are almost invariably people who are retiring, or those who couldn't hack it in the big league.

The Gold Coast will become the sporting capital of the world around the same time Melbourne becomes the beach and good weather capital of the world.

GC ites " reptilian mongs .. shaving years off our lives via skin cancer.". Give the man a cigar for "Quote of the WeeK".:thumbsu:

I am on the coast because of work...so don't really fit into your other two categories. ;)

He did say "almost invariably".

Poor sod... forced to live with a bunch of Gold Coast residents. *shudder*

The Gold Coast will be struggling to be sporting capital of the Gold Coast, especially in a couple of years when their East Coast Plus New Zealand Rugby League and NBL teams fall over yet again.

Its an interesting association with Melbounre, rain and hail, when the Gold Coast has twice the rainfall... i remember going on a holiday to the Gold Coast a couple of years ago and it rained all week and flooded. The Melbourne weather didnt look that bad then

What a classic, people from Reservoir and Hoppers Crossing bagging the Gold Coast. No it will never be sporting capital of Australia same as Melbourne will never be known for great weather, brilliant surf breaks and beautiful beaches.

You seem to prefer to play the man and not the ball.

How does bagging Melbourne make any difference to whether Carrara is a sporting capital?

Us miserable Melbournians will keep on suffering through having 20 inches of rain per annum, compared to Southern Qld's 50.2 inches, and we REALLY hate our humidity being 50% lower than the northern steambath.

I'm off to Torquay now for a surf, see ya :thumbsu:

Queensland: Beautiful one day, underwater the next :D
