Brisbane were given a lot of excuses this week in the media and by the commentary team today. Problem is they have been giving up big scores all year and they have genuine issues. Ranked 10th for scores against. Still top 4 on % and anything can happen once you make it to finals but Fagan has a lot of work to do to, and he would've known that before today.

Asked the good lady wife, at what point do we start getting credit for putting up decent performances or is always going to be how shit the opposition were?

I know Brisbane had a few out but we still won.

This.

We’re on a hiding to nothing with some of our supporters. Whinge if we lose, discredit the wins.

Stoked with the win today.

My issue this season after most losses and some wins has been inconsistent effort and buy in with some players. We could've lost today and I wouldn't have been negative about it.

The club is rebuilding, so growth is what I want to see and buy in from the players. Skill and decision making errors etc are a given with a young team, but the effort seems to be there from all the players recently. As others have pointed out, seems to be a mindset shift from our senior engine room to not focus on racking up stats, but playing team football and the team is benefiting from it

Fagans presser is 9 minutes straight of taking the easy out (covid excuse). Doesn't give Essendon an ounce of credit at all or fault his own team for the way they played. 9 whole minutes dedicated to 'yeah we got covid'. If he is the same behind closed doors they are in serious trouble.

This is their fourth year in a row as a top four side, if they don’t at least make a grand final this year there may be some questions asked, he’s probably feeling the pressure somewhat

Have watched the game again. Not a real lot to take away given the low pressure but we won the game we should have won given the circumstances .
Caldwell showed us a new string to the midfield bow. Durham runs all day. BZK coming of age. A win is a win and the $3.35 on the TAB head to head was very nice.
Right now they have a better list and we got them in favorable circumstances but it has been the sort of game we have let slide in the past.
No real surprise we are going a bit better now we have a few players back.

We win comfortably if Brisbane don’t kick those 3-4 ridiculous goals.

BL Expected Score: 82.1 vs Actual 90 (+7.9)
ESS Expected Score: 106.6 vs Actual 100 (-6.6)

Probably reflects what my gut was, we were a bit wasteful early but overall not terrible in front of goals.
Brisbane were about par with 1-2 goals as outliers

Most unlikely goals were:

1. Lincoln McCarthy shot from the pocket 25m out towards the end of the third: 22.6% (Top left green circle)
2. Carter Michael's shot from the pocket 40m out in the 4th: 24.4% (Bottom left green circle)
3. Mitch Robinson shot from 35m out at the end of the third: 26.4% (Small green circleunder the cluster of big green squares in the middle of the 50)

Fast forward 12 months, we win that game by 40 pts +. Brisbane are really not that much chop, can't see them doing much this year. If had a bit more self belief and confidence, we would of killed that game off by 3 quarter time.

See this is where my head is at. They are good but have had basically no injuries for a number of years now whereas we can never put a full side on the park. Why that’s the case is for another thread

On topic, good to get a win away from home, smashed their full strength midfield but I’m cautious because that’s a midfield that size wise we match we’ll with, not a Demons/Carlton/Dogs style supersize one.

Will rewatch and get some more idea but Caldwell massive, Zach, 2MP building, Langers doing smart things.

Snelling probably should start preseason already, Hepp had one of his worse ones.

Better to have a W than an L though for sure

To be fair, the powers-that-be did their best to take the decision out of our hands.

Love the complaining from Lions fans on the main board about their outs. We play who we play, not our problem.

Another killer shift from Zerk. It's a loss without him.

Don't bother having a shower tonight Joe, 'cause you've had a bath.

Some of our ball use through the middle was a joy to watch. Even our handball chains had some intent more often than not.
Joe doesn't need to shower because he didn't get dirty. In fact he barely worked up a sweat.

One lazy ass mutha****a

Feels weird to have zero regrets on losing joe.
Do not miss the flakey performances, errant kicking and playing for the frees/taking mark of the year vs. Wrights leading patterns, strong hands/contest work and kicking.

Net result of no daniher, forced to add wright and recruitment of perkins is flawless, even at this early stage
