Review R22: Port v Adelaide review

Thank you. Someone has called it correctly. We were one point down at 3/4 time and allowed multiple last quarter goals from turnovers:
1. Amon outer wing
2. Pittard centre of ground
3. Broadbent smothered chip kick at CHB
4. Toumpas with whatever that was - too shit scared to take responsibility to kick it so he handballs into a smother
5. Byrne-Jones with the trip over his own feet routine
6. Schulz doing his best to spoil his teammates all night

We should have won. We wasted a good effort from Lobbe in the ruck (he was very good in the hitouts tonight). We wasted Wines' tenacity, Gray's class and Boak's efforts to lead us. We wasted it all because our coaching group accepts mediocre standards on the training track and on game day. They continually pick players who let us down with poor skills.


On a positive note:
Amon and Impey have come a long way.
Clurey, despite being on the receiving end of some scores against, keeps doing things that impress me.
DBJ has made more errors in the past three weeks than he had previously for the whole year, but still can hold his head high.

People talk of cancers in the club. I'm starting to look forward to the retirement of Westhoff. I'm over his inconsistency of effort and execution. He's been increasingly petulant with his gestures to teammates this year. I can't remember seeing a forward led to the ball so often from quick kicks forward, only to whinge to his teammate up field.

We need to learn how to create space? Running to open up areas on the field for other players. Might make it easier to kick to somebody.

I'm praying that Howard turns out a better player than Westhoff has been.

For me that's almost The biiggest tragedy for this year and there's been a few. The fact Howard has done his knee and missed out on valuable game time and probably won't be back to full fitness til 2018

Toumpas' lack of speed and telegraphed manoeuvres across halfback assassinated my feels.

If you were Colquhoun you'd be pretty annoyed rn.

I don't mind Colquhoun, but that handball was exactly the sort of stupid thing Colquhoun would've done in the same situation too.

Speak of selfish....f###g Westhoff shoots for goal instead of a simple handball to Young on his own in the goal sq. Then again does Westhoff really give a stuff..his field kicking goal kicking and marks dropped is frustrating and costs us shifts in momentum...hell we talk about Jasper but Westhoff imho takes the cake

Actually this is a valid point.

Butcher should feel aggrieved that we have double standards so far as iron gloves Charlie is concerned, and Colquhoun must be wondering how Toumpas is ahead of him.

Unpopular but I can't help but feel we select sometimes based on who was recently acquired, rather than admit we bought a dud.

Not that either are duds... ok Jimmy is, but Dixon should have been dropped on form before injury.

Been seagulling all year getting uncontested rubbish at the magpies, toump has been a lot better at that level and deserved a crack at it.
