Yea good effort with the side on the park

Take every chance to run through figjam Betts next time Portz

Delist Toumpas Tomorrow

Hope you don't mind an intruder's thoughts

First of all from a crows perspective a very nerve wrecking game, I am amazed that Port with that many outs managed to put up such Gusto, our kicking for goal certainly did us no favors. It must be incredibly hard for you fans when you can have a depleted side like tonight put out a show like that one night then look disinterested the next. In fact I would say the same thing happened during the 2nd quarter. Fitness? Leadership? Game plan? Coach?

What ever the case I think you will be back up the ladder next year, too good a side not to.

Ports best

R. Gray- amazing goal in the 3rd quarter, 27 touches - BOG for Port for mine
Closely followed by Wines who did some serious heavy lifting in the 3rd! Great around contests
Lobbe- I admit I do like to laugh at Matthew Lobbe but I thought despite some utter potato moments he dominated the center clearances.
S. Gray- goes under the radar against oppositions- looks the goods.
Boak- I'm really not a big Travis fan but he certainly had his moments. A workman like performance

Dishonorable mentions: Toumpas, O'Shea, Westhoff- I won't say no more.

Lastly- I would just like to thank Carlton for gifting us Betts, what a player! (Sorry couldn't resist at least one gloat).

Well played. Kudos.

Toumpas is clearly a confidence player who clearly has no confidence.

If we're ever going to get a return out of him, Ken has to back him in week in week out like he backed in Pittard week in week out in 2013 and 2014. He's never going to make it as an in-and-out fringe player who doesn't have a chance to acclimatise to AFL football.

In 2017 he should either play from Round 1 or he shouldn't play at all. If we continue to give him 5-10 games here and there when we have injuries, we're just wasting our time.

A few things.

1) Buddha wasn't in the box.

2) Toumpas, if that's how you play in big games - you aren't good enough. Total liability.

3) Schulz is absolutely 100% finished. He looked like a broomstick at times, no spinal mobility at all.

4) O'shea should be finished at Port.

5) Broadbent should be finished at Port.

6) Wines was bouncing off the rev limiter all night, it's possible that he physically broke the "going at 100%" barrier and defied human limits as he flew to 120%.

7) How on earth did our incredibly small defence survive that? Our transition out of defence is a huge concern though.

8) Holy shit, Impey. Get your head screwed on and give that effort every week and you'll be something completely out of this world.

9) Scott Thompson looks incredibly slow in tough and fast games.

10) No games for Sloane.

11) Why did a team that is on paper 500% worse than the team in round 2 do better by almost 50 points? We are such an enigma.

12) Palmer needs to improve his fitness but he's got a future from what we saw tonight.

13) Amon to have a genuine break out year next year.

Structurally set up the way to beat the crows, so credit to the coaching staff.

Skills are still absolutely horrific, and our ability to move the ball from defensive 50 is just awful. I'm not sure if its just because we don't have enough tall options down the line or our skills are shit or a combo of both but it has to be fixed.

Few player comments.

Ollie - Much better tonight 71% DE! Bull like as usual. Loved his game.
Boak - Some extremely poor kicks at crucial times which really hurt us, other than that was good.
S. Gray - One of his better games this year, was very clean in the packs.
Impey - Needs to be used off half back more often to break the lines, had a very good game.
Polec - Pretty reasonable game, we look dangerous when he has it which you can't say about many.
Amon: Continuing to show he has something but still needs to get involved more
Toumpas - Delist. What an appalling game that was.
Schultz - Great player for the club but is well ans truly done.
Neade - Standard Neade game, 5 disposals.
Westhoff - Stinker, i nearly put him in the same category as hammer for inconsistency of effort,

So a gold pass till gets things right? I'd rather Kane Mitchell

It was an exciting match and obviously could have gone either way but Gray being your only real threat in attack was the difference in the end I think. You killed us around the ball with clearances.

I know this was a rivalry match and every team needs (the right level/type of) emotion to perform but would it be unreasonable to say that your team rises and falls more on emotion than most? When you're up and about running in waves with the crowd behind you it's almost tangible but it seems that when your emotional level drops 2% in other weeks your performance drops 10%. As an outsider I feel you need more consistent effort, better strategy and Dixon/Ryder back as forward targets.

Remember 2011 when all of our players were confidence players devoid of confidence

It's current year. If a player doesn't have internal confidence aka a proper winning mentality they can go do one. Unless it's Butcher.

We were lucky not to get thrashed, only positive is that we didn't straight up throw in the towel like we have many times this year.

This team has no idea what they are doing, I almost think the players perform better when they ignore the team instructions, which will neva eva work.

I'm not sure if we should keep Krakouer on the list next year, but I guess it depends how half back flankers we trade out - I'm hoping 2 or 3 at least.

We need to be really aggressive with trading players out this off season, I honest don't think there are more than 4 players who we couldn't potentially improve our list by trading.

I'm also completely cold on Hinkley now, it's super clear the problems with the team come from a shit game plan, as well as horrible skills training.

When you need to work harder than the opposition to win you are ****ed. Though I have no idea what went wrong after we played Sydney in the preseason, as we looked alright in that game...

Dude. I watched the game. It's poor skills

So did I.

For example:

If I gave you a fraction of a second to hit a target exactly 15 metres towards the goal- do you think you could hit it?

If I gave you the exact same fraction of a second, and asked you to hit a target who might be anywhere between 15-30 metres somewhere in front of you.

Which is more likely?

That's the difference between the well structured teams, and Port.

I gotta say... I'm getting really sick of hearing about the Eddie Betts Crows

I didn't think O'Shea was all that bad.He is only making up numbers though with so many outs

Thought Wines was massive tonight but I'd like a performance like that every week. Hopefully that comes next year. Trengove made Jenkins look like the spud he is for three quarters. Gray had his usual moments. Impey tried hard to make things happen. Clurey was good at times as well.
Lost count of how many times I swore at Toumpas, O'Shea and Westhoff. Pittard had brain fade after brain fade, looking like the circa 2013 version of himself.

We're 4 years into this coaching group's reign. We played in a prelim two years ago. We should be beyond 'well we lost again but at least we tried really hard'.
Thank you. Someone has called it correctly. We were one point down at 3/4 time and allowed multiple last quarter goals from turnovers:
1. Amon outer wing
2. Pittard centre of ground
3. Broadbent smothered chip kick at CHB
4. Toumpas with whatever that was - too shit scared to take responsibility to kick it so he handballs into a smother
5. Byrne-Jones with the trip over his own feet routine
6. Schulz doing his best to spoil his teammates all night

We should have won. We wasted a good effort from Lobbe in the ruck (he was very good in the hitouts tonight). We wasted Wines' tenacity, Gray's class and Boak's efforts to lead us. We wasted it all because our coaching group accepts mediocre standards on the training track and on game day. They continually pick players who let us down with poor skills.

On a positive note:
Amon and Impey have come a long way.
Clurey, despite being on the receiving end of some scores against, keeps doing things that impress me.
DBJ has made more errors in the past three weeks than he had previously for the whole year, but still can hold his head high.

People talk of cancers in the club. I'm starting to look forward to the retirement of Westhoff. I'm over his inconsistency of effort and execution. He's been increasingly petulant with his gestures to teammates this year. I can't remember seeing a forward led to the ball so often from quick kicks forward, only to whinge to his teammate up field.
