Scandal Racist fan throws banana at Eddie Betts

Interesting watching her behaviour before she throws the banana, she seems to be jumping up and down on the spot like a little kid having a tantrum as if Betts' supposed showboating was inciting her. Clearly not the full quid.

Was she there by herself? It appears like she just stormed off after being called out. Kinda sad really. A young woman out for the night.....just her and her banana.

Maybe it's her sex toy she carries around

They is a very strong and clear classification for attitudes just like this one. What betts did is done very game. And you call him and him out alone for it.

Yeah/nah - the way Betts was carrying on was up at Chad Cornes levels - just playing with the crowd (figjam)
Whatever the case the girl was stupid and will get penalised accordingly and racism will be front and centre for the next couple of weeks which is good to raise awareness but will also take some attention away from the footy stuff which is all I'm really interested in.

Lots of people take fruit to the football. The food they sell at games is shit and expensive. If you're going to be in a venue for 4 hours, a highly charged adrenaline filled venue, you need nutrition. If you're poor and cant afford the high cost of shit food, you take your own. If she's from Port Adelaide, it could take hours to get the train station and home. That makes it a long day. Shes that fat she probably has type 2 diabetes and needs to keep eating.

There is absolutely nothing untoward about people having bananas at the footy.

Betts clearly baited the Port fans by smiling and raising his arms after getting a goal. Terrible behaviour.

And..."I call my child a cheeky monkey all the time...I must be racist!" :(!!
Even if there is no verifiable evidence that she used the word "monkey" (but there appears that there is), the throwing of a banana at an Aboriginal player is in itself about as overtly racist as you can get.
Anyone who doesnt get the "Banana/ape/black person" connotation is either quite stupid, or pretending to be stupid. This connotation is well known in sport world-wide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_association_football
Exactly. And surely no football fan can be unaware of the racist connotations after the Adam Goodes situation.

When I was watching the broadcast I was a bit worried about Betts standing there seemingly baiting the crowd. However he was just looking for the crows fans to get his acknowledgements for a super goal but doing it at a showdown surrounded by Port supporters was waiving the red flag at the bull. You could see the Port supporters starting to boil as he was there for a while and it seemed like something was about to happen. As he walked away some guy came flying down the steps towards him. Onus is on the fans to restrain themselves but that match was at fever pitch and he had a part in the frenzy. I personally love that stuff but it's only a matter of time a fan goes too far (worse than throwing an object maybe a punch). I don't want to see fan interaction end love that stuff but perhaps on this occasion he needed to quickly assess the situation, smile, turn and celebrate with his team mates.

Zero excuse for what the woman has done that's a ban.

That's such rubbish. Eddie is an entertainer and it's not much to expect fans to have enough self-control not to throw things at a player.

People complain that we have so many boring players these days yet you think the players should be able to psychoanalyze a crowd before enjoying a moment after kicking the sealer in a big game.

Everything about this points to her having a hissy fit driven by type 2 diabetes after a long emotionally charged day.

People lament the fact there are no characters in the game and the moment someone shows a bit of personality they're labelled a figjam. Go figure.

It's been common-place for years in European soccer, for racist fans to throw bananas at black players.

And the comments from a fellow Port supporter makes it pretty clear where this woman sits in regards to race relations. Port have a terrific history with indigenous players so let's make this about one person not the club.

This, the lady is stupid, but Betts should go celebrate with his team mates like (almost) every other player in the league does. He regularly does this, but this time being a Port game that was a mistake. What do you want the emotional Port fans to do people? clap him?

One day, some drunk short tempered person will take a swing.

Spot on. Firstly no excuse for that behaviour at all. No problem with her being banned. Eddie is a star and that was a great goal but he did act like a figjam in front of opposition supporters and that will always get them charged up. If he had kicked that goal and acted respectfully he would've got a different reaction all together.
He'd kicked one of the best goals of the year. Every player turns to the crowd. There's a couple of thousand fans in each bay, are you saying every one of them were PAFC fans and he turned to them to rile them up?

Maybe he was turning to the Crows fans within the bay? You know, as he does every time he kicks a goal from the boundary?

As a side, what exactly would 'acted respectfully look like in your eyes anyway?

Well not throw bananas at players for one.
Stand infront of the Collingwood Cheersquad celebrating within an arms length for 10 seconds, or any other cheersquad.... I can bet something will happen.

The Crows fans were no where near that section. That's Port Season ticket holders.
