Here's my top 10:

1. Denny Crane (William Shatner), Boston Legal - the guy was nuts, but such a legend.
2. Homer Simpson - such a lovable loser!
3. Neil "Smithy" Smith (James Corden), Gavin & Stacey - we all have or had good friends like him.
4. Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey), The House of Cards - ruthlessly driven, and so despicable yet likable.
5. George Constanza (Jason Alexander), Seinfeld - there really wasn't much to like about George, but he is still one of my favourite characters.
6. Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), Breaking Bad - there was a tender side to Jesse that made him "believable"
7. Robert McCall (Edward Woodward), The Equalizer - a blast from the 80's. McCall was the ultimate troubleshooter, and was suave to boot.
8. Estelle Costanza (Estelle Harris), Seinfeld - such an irritating mother character, but still one of my favourite characters!
9. Brian Griffin (Seth McFarlane), Family Guy - an 8-year old talking Labrador! Says it all!
10. Maxwell Smart (Don Adams), Get Smart - the clumsiest spy ever, but always got his job done

1. Tony Soprano - both loved & hated him, easily the best Mafia boss since the Corleone's
2. Basil Fawlty - 1.96m of walking talking insanity
3. Rumpole - loved this show way back when & briefly met Leo McKern which was a bit of a surreal experience
4. Walter White - nuff said
5. Mr Bean - there's more than a touch of genius to his portrayal
6. Al Swearengen - mean mother****er with a soft spot for gimps, whats not to like
7. Bunk Moreland - made that show in many ways
8. Frank Reynolds - often just focus on DD's character when watching IASIP, cracks me up
9. Francis Underwood - as you say sttew, hard not to like him despite being a campaigner of the highest magnitude.
10. Tara Gregson - found it impossible not to become attached to Toni Collette's creations.

Could easily just do the cast of The Wire... but I'll try to add a couple of different ones in ;)

Jimmy McNulty - The Wire
Al Swearengen - Deadwood
Omar - The Wire
Bunk Moreland - The Wire
Paulie Gualtieri - The Sopranos
George Constanza - Seinfeld
Nate Fisher - Six Feet Under
Jesse Pinkman - Breaking Bad
Stringer Bell - The Wire
Richard Winters - Band of Brothers
Rust Cohle - True Detective
Johny Drama - Entourage
Tyrion Lannister - Game of Thrones

1. Hawkeye - M*A*S*H
2. Oswald Cobblepot - Gotham
3. Bronn - Game of Thrones
4. Saul Goodman - Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul

Pretty stiff to have no Community characters in there but I prefer to see them as a group rather than individuals.

EDIT: Saw an above poster had Mr. Bean - most definitely. Magnificent acting.

Peter Griffin. Stewie & Brian, James Spader(Boston Legal .Black list , anything he's in).
Richie Aprile (Sopranos) talk about malevolence incorporated, he was a vicious character, don't know the actors name but intimidating to say the least.
Al Swearengen(Deadwood) pommie being a western styled yank, brilliant.
Delboy, Rodders, Grandad, Uncle Albert, Trigger , Boyceee, Mike publican, the bloody lot , best series ever , EVER!!!

Brent , brilliant , but anything Gervais does is genius , as with Merchant too. Far above most, if not all these two. Brent was so cringeworthy,

I tell you no lie!

I caught The Office by accident, on the ABC, flipping through channels' quite a few years ago , and for about 2 or 3 minutes thought it was a reality live to air doco, no bulldust , I could not believe what I was watching, then I began to gather that it had to be a set up, but, I was not totally sure.

For quite a while I thought they were real people until a couple of faces I knew turned up (Bilbo Baggins was one), but many years ago.

It was not easy to peg this brilliant piece.

Would have to say the most unbelievable brilliance I had ever fallen onto by accident. Gervais skills and the cast skills still amaze me, the USA version just could not do it for me , I know people liked it but it was not anywhere near the quality.

I have watched VEEP though, and that is the sort of thing the Americans do better than anyone.

Also the Working Dog people here, do great stuff, in that style too.

Well the best one is Bobby Hill, and there isn't really any competition for the top gong.

7. Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld)

9. Brian Griffin (Family Guy)

I'm not a Simpsons fan so that's why I don't feature Homer or Bart.

1. Tim Riggins (Friday Night Lights)
