Gopower - you rate Cassisi highly. I like the patriotism with that selection. No one else will have him.

I have my reasons.

Waters, Ladson and Ellis in the same defence is a risk. I guess just watch the pre-season closely.

I acknowledge the risk behind Waters, but with Sheppard and Davis on the bench I'm reasonably confident (plus if Waters is out then Sheppard's more likely to be in). Ladson I don't see as too much of a risk, has been training well by all reports and was very durable before what I view as a one-off injury last year. And what's the risk with Ellis? Has he had an injury-interrupted pre-season that I haven't heard about or something?

You could very easily get burnt wasting trades on rucks too.

Meh. I'm not expecting the Warnock/Lobbe/Trengove combo to score overly well, but if at least two of them can make about 150k each, which isn't unreasonable, then I can trade one down to a rookie and the other up to a Cox or a Sandi. Alternatively I could use up one of my other cash cows, because I'm pretty confident that barring a lot of injuries or unexpected poor form I won't be short of the money I'll need to make all the upgrades I'm planning on.

As for Ryder, TBH I'm not 100% confident on him. But I'm also not 100% confident on any of the other potential premium rucks. Ryder to me seems like the least likely to slide though, so in the end I went with him (was having trouble deciding between him and Sandi, and ended up going with Ryder partly so I could afford Riewoldt in the forward line). I wouldn't be overly shocked if he slipped to 75-80 with Hille's eventual return to the side, but at least he's durable and should be able to post reasonable at worst scores as a keeper for the year.

Changed a few things around again ... seems we had more money to spend than fanplanner let us think

Enright
Hodge
Waite
Harbrow
Waters
Ladson
Selwood, S
(Sheppard, Maguire)

Ablett
Mitchell
Cooney
Ebert
Palmer
Martin
(Jetta, Bastinac)

Jolly
Kreuzer
(Lobbe, Warnock)

O'Keefe
Franklin
Pavlich
Kennedy
Mayne
Dangerfield
Rioli
(Gumbleton, Dennis-Lane)

$5,100

In: Waite, Jolly, Selwood, Kennedy, Warnock
Out: Adcock, Tippet, Hardingham, Skipper, Podsailly

- Waite was scoring exceptionally well last year until he did his knee. With Fev gone he might be used as a target forward, which would ensure him plenty of supply. If he remains as a defender he was usually the "go-to" guy for delivery out of the defence. Only concern would be injury, anyone know how he's tracking?
- Having all of Waters, Maguire and Waite in the backline could be a little risky. Ladson I consider a non-risk, he's ready to go
- Pretty happy with my midfield, only concern would be Palmer, but I think he'll be OK. If not, the cover should be OK til he is.
- I think Jolly should score a little better, and more consistantly than Tippet, and this potentially may save me a ruck upgrade later.

All I can think of, any other input would be, as always, appreciated.

ps: @ gopower, I like your selection of Cassisi. I had him in my PDT last year and he was a machine until that nasty headknock. Very underrated
DTer and I hope he goes OK for you :thumbsu:

I like ur selection of Kennedy in your team, will score well.

- Malceski
- Sheppard
Back Up: P. Davis, Maguire

MID:
- Swan
- Ablett

RU:

Back Up: Fitzpatrick, Currie

FWD:

- Goodes
- J. Brown
- Jurrah
- Henderson
- Walker
- Yarran
Back Up: McKernan, Dennis-Lane

$11,900 left over.

My first team for this year is:

Backs- B.Goddard, L.Hodge, J.Harbrow, G.Birchall, N.Suban, J.Hunt, B.Waters (B.Sheppard, P.Davis)

Mids- L.Hayes, K.Cornes, L.Gilbee, S.Burgoyne, P.Dangerfield, L.Jetta (J.Strauss, S.Blease)

I definitely have a stack of changes to make, but my strength will be my forwards. Midfield too expensive this year and not durable enough.

Well it's sure as **** better than the first team I ever made. :p

The only thing I'd say is you don't have a real dominant captain option. IMO it would be worth upgrading Mitchell to someone who scores at least around 110 with that leftover cash.

Backs: A Carrazzo, L Hodge, H Shaw, A Mcphee, J Harbrow, T Kennelly, R Ladson (B, Sheppard, A Smith)

Agreed on the first count, my first team had Courtney Johns in it

I don't mind Mitchell as a captaincy option, in fact I'd be confident saving a bit of cash and downgrading him to Sewell, who I think is a jet. Nevertheless, if you can get the likes of Bartel and co. in there then all the better.

Defenders:

L. Gilbee
N. Maxwell
N. Grima

1. Far too many North players. If they have a bad game you're in trouble, so diversify a bit.
2. Ablett is too expensive to be in your team from round one without being a lock and leave captain. Either get Boomer to hand it over or downgrade him and spend your cash elsewhere. I recommend option 1.

Well i said i will wait until it officially opened before i make my team.

This is my first draft, took me about 1 hour and 20 minutes to come up with. It is very likely to change, alot of these picks are going to be based on NAB cub form/role.

Please feel free to critque my first draft.

Backs: Hodge, Enright, Carrazzo (?), Harbrow, Kennelly, Ladson, Waters, (Davis, Maguire)
Mids: Bartel, Pendlebury, Cooney, Dalziel, Ward, Trengrove, (Martin, Shuey)
Rucks: Sandi, Kruzer, ( Lobbe, Trengrove)
Forwards: ROK, Pav, J.Brown, Gia, Ziebell, Dangerfield, Tapscott, (Dennis-Lane, Gumbleton)

Like i said this is my first draft and will most likely change quite abit, pending on NAB cup. But any advice on it would be appreciated! :thumbsu:

Had a quick go myself, 12 grand left over:

Grimes, Fisher, Hurn, Ellis, Kennelly, Ladson, Sheppard (Maguire, Trengove)
Boyd, Thompson, Pavlich, Burgoyne, Kerr, Trengove (Scully, Morabito)
McIntosh, Jolly (two rookies, don't care here at all)
Riewoldt, Knights, Franklin, Rioli, Kennedy, Roughead, Dangerfield (Gumbelton, Walsh)

Probably should get Pavlich as a forward, but hey, its only Feb 1, plenty of time to change it.

First Crack - still have $200k cash - went for the value picks first

Happy with defense, ruck and most of fwd's

i think your team is one of the better ones i'v seen on here
Gia is an interesting choice
not many people going for him this year but apparantly has been killing it on the track since their prelim loss
bit risky going with a rookie in the forward line, but then again so have i :D
good rucks, good bench rucks as well
good mids, not sure how much ward can improve on his average though
no doubt he is going to be a great player, but i cant really see him being a keeper in the mids, be nice for him to prove me wrong though
i like your premium backs but im not so sure about having all three of ladson, waters, and kennelly
never been a huge fan of kennelly
but your back rookies should be fine in covering anyway

overall a very good team mate
and shuey is going to be a gun ;)

very risky forward line
and big risk starting a rookie in the backs
i honestly dont think talia is going to play many games this year, may be better off with a robbie tarrant or even a gumbleton
and may i ask why carazzo is in the mids when you could put him in the backs ? still not familiar with this whole dual positioning rule yet so if thats the reason forgive me :)
with that 200k left over, i would either upgrade one of your forward rookies or one of stevens or kennelly in the back line

I've been out of the loop all summer, and would really appreciate some advice. Thanks guys!

Backs:

$107.6 to spare. I know Hille might not be the best choice because he isn't certain to make round 1, but I'll keep him in till the round 1 lists are out.

Yeah - carazzo in the mids was due to DP - that way I can swap Godd, Lads, Hodge all into the mids if need be. Or more likely go the other way. Though by season proper - i'll probably cave on this!

Talia seemed to get a bit of the ball - and with Otten on the bench i thought he'd get a game. Like all of us - NAB form will be pretty important.

I think you are right though - i'm likely to up one of my fwd's to a better prospect - most likely talia
