Why is Malthouse such a good fit when other clubs e.g. Adelaide, Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon, Melbourne etc have all appointed untried, younger coaches in recent seasons? I get the feeling that what makes Malthouse attractive to some is merely his availability.
Many associated with the Collingwood Football Club have blamed their failure to win the 2011 premiership on Malthouse's outdated game plan & yet some Carlton supporters, who think anything from outside our club has to be better, are certain a tired and aging Malthouse will win us a premiership almost immediately, even though it took him 11 seasons at a very well resourced Collingwood Football Club to win a premiership.
I think many Carlton supporters have fallen in love with a concept rather than a reality.
Gina Rinehart just called, said she would buy 10000 memberships, all she wants is a place on the board for her and her daughter and she insists we appoint Terry Wallace coach. What do you say Luch? Is the club for sale depending on the level of membership?
I heard Nathan Tinkler has always wanted to play, how bout if he poured in a couple of mil, can we fit him onto our list and play him at Full Forward? He knows he is a bit out of condition but he swears that for every game he plays he will chuck in another wad. How about it Luchy, you seem to think that if you pour in enough money you get a say in things.......
"Old timer." Gee there is some condescending shits on this board. How about you either focus on the post or don't bother responding at all. Your age gives you no mortgage on common sense, if anything it demonstrates the opposite. You are on notice.
Interesting post from a Geelong supporter on 3 June 2006:
"Today marked the end of the following careers, if not now, in the near future or at the end of the season.
Bomber Thompson
The rest of the coaching staff
Cameron Ling
Josh Hunt
Tom Harley (body is gawn)
Brad Ottens (body is not up to 100 minutes of football)
Steve Johnson"
Isn't it fortunate that BF posters don't run AFL clubs. The media would have a field day.
Malthouse's game plan was outdated? They were down 7 points at 3 qtr time in the GF after winning it the previous year. After not making the GF in 2009 he took the best aspects of Lyon's gameplan then improved it. Malthouse is a proven coach who is able to adapt and get the most out of average players across 3 clubs over 20+ years. Why would you think he's suddenly become garbage? Also he got the Pies into a GF and lost by 8 points after 3 seasons. THe only issue is if he doesnt want to do it anymore. Why is Malthouse such a good fit when other clubs e.g. Adelaide, Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon, Melbourne etc have all appointed untried, younger coaches in recent seasons? And at the end of 2006 Thompson kept his job after a major restructuring of the coaching department and the fact that in 04 they made the prelim and in 05 they lost in a semi by a kick to the eventual premiers. Ratten hasn't come close to doing either of those things. Geelong in 06 has zero to do with Carlton in 12.Interesting post from a Geelong supporter on 3 June 2006:

majority of players need to remove their heads from their rectums and start putting in the effort we expect of professsionalsMy dad's mate who is also mates with a recent former player you would all know (and who I won't name out of respect) passed on to us today that Ratts has lost the players due to his inability to converse on a personal level and develop a genuine rapport with the team on a 'real' level (especially affecting the younger/newer blokes). He said that the only reason he is still there is because of his relationship with Sticks and the (bewildering) continual support from the board. Majority of the players have had enough and it is a matter of time before it is finalised.
One member one vote. Members voted for the current board. The board is empowered to hire and fire. Sticks is Pres. Has backed Ratts. Thats it. Thats all you get. If you dont like it and are a member you get a chance to vote in December. Until then that all you get. That is all the rights a membership buys. I despise conditional members. I consider conditional members to be gutless, some call them fair weather fans, I think they are much lower than that on the scale and deserve a term that aptly describes them.
popcorn pleaseToo bad Carlton aren't Geelong and using Bomber Thompson as a example is poor considering most clubs actually do worse when they attempt to hold onto a coach who is simply not capable enough ( Harvey, Neil Craig and Bailey). How about we avoid becoming Richmond 2.0 since its been 17 years since we actually won a flag and just about 12 years since we last competed. S Ratten just sits back and watches us lose nowadays while he eats his jelly snakes but also managing to play players based on name instead of form. This year has been nothing less then pathetic as we have not won a game against a competitive team since Fremantle in round five. It is r14 now and injuries are not a proper excuse for our form since this team was more then capable of beating teams we have lost badly against with the same injuries last year. Nobody can excuse Ratten for our performance against Hawthorn which was among one of our worst performances at the MCG in several years. Maybe you could explain to us what exactly our game plan is? Our link up play has become absolutely terrible as players seem to always be shadowed by opposing players who will more then likely win most 1 on 1 contests due to our current team lacking the physique to remain competitive. We have driven ourselves into irrelevancy this year with Ratten at the wheel so maybe you could explain why we should keep him? Hawthorn lost to Sydney and Richmond badly as well and looked quite the pretenders while doing so but that didn't stop them from continuing the fight for top four. Alastair Clarkson managed to work on Hawthorn deficiencies in half the time that Ratten has failed to do so. Why is a team that is trying to compete for the top four trying to play three rucks and use a game plan that requires us to be faster then other team? I also would like to know why every time we lose Ratten removes any player who was put in from the twos ( Thornton, Bower and Jordan Russell, Brock)? even though the loss was a result of older players been played who are out of form ( Judd) or simply been too unfit ( Yarran, Jameison,Henderson). I wonder if anyone could not have been frustrated when Walker managed to drop a sitter then handball it out of bounds? Walker should be taking marks and kicking goals instead of running around feeling like absolute crap up the ground. The moment when Hampson just completely missed at the end was gut wrenching since these guys are way more then capable of playing first rate then this crap if used correctly. Our club needs to stop living on past successes and worry about what we are achieving now since it isn't very much.
popcorn please
thats cool but look fwd to responses-few issues there where if you generalize you lead yourself open.Gotta vent somewhere
I don't think the same question will be asked about you.
Ah, yes, the old "lost the players" argument, with the usual implication that it is all the coach's fault. My dad's mate who is also mates with a recent former player you would all know (and who I won't name out of respect) passed on to us today that Ratts has lost the players due to his inability to converse on a personal level and develop a genuine rapport with the team on a 'real' level (especially affecting the younger/newer blokes). Off you go then. Why do you quitters insist on telling us you are going? Why not just go? My guess is that you are not going to do anything but moan.I can't take him anymore! will be watching about 3 games of footy per week from now on, excluding ours! Coach has to go, has the worst set ups ever! So many players out of position & so many bad selections at match committee! Hampson forward, Walker not fwd, 3 rucks, Continual picking of Joseph/McLean/Bower. The amount of scores off our turnovers, player matchups. I could go on forever. Champion player, ******* shit coach!
