I'm just happy to have marks inside fifty, once the ball is in a set shot almost all the hard work is done.

Obviously I want them converting, but I'd rather kick 12.16 than 8.0 due to lack of opportunity.
Sure but our coaches should know the strengths and weaknesses of our forwards and play them accordingly. Lobb took like 2/3 marks leading to the F50 line but he doesnt have the distance. Treacy on the other hand can slot them from 55+... so what gives

The game is not a magic box where everyone stays in their lane...

I think we've accepted that it's one or the other for some time but we can probably all agree that we're not making finals or contending properly until we're doing both consistently.

Opportunity speaks to system which is great and I think says that we have the right coaching set up (which not all teams have), but I worry that you can teach system where you can't teach accuracy.

We underestimated Rachele and didn’t have the right match up for him, needed Walker to just wear him like a glove, both Ryan and Chapman looked too slow to go with him, and both left him to try to help their teammates. Ryan reads the play so well he needs to be on the oppositions least dangerous forward so he can zone off and impact the play, whenever he did that on the weekend Rachele got a goal.
No one's going to invest that much prep time into a debutant. For starters, there's just not that much material available.

You can bet Rachele won't be getting that level of latitude for a while to come and often that first game or two is the easiest if you're running on top of the ground (been plenty who've kicked a bag on debut or near on eg Nyhuis, Adrian McAdam, Metropolis and then struggled to hit those heights again).

Rachele has heaps of promise and has a great mix of composure and intensity, but he'll find the more he plays the more his weaknesses will be targeted and strengths restricted.

For whatever reason we seemed too Lobb conscious going forward. That would have played a part.

I swear I ask this every year, how is our goal kicking so bad?

It's so bad.
My hope is that at least we are getting a lot shots on goal, so hopefully it becomes less stressful on players to make the shot because they know there will be plenty of opportunities.

In days past it became a huge deal to make the shots count because we didn't get very many opportunities.

We generated plenty of shots last year, in fact if we only kicked at AFL average accuracy, then we make the 8 easily.

We brought in Le Cras specifically to address it plus a guy that trains pro golfers to nail putts to address the routine and mental side of it. The results were clear to see on the weekend. While we'll have our better days and the players will continue to implement and improve what they've learnt from the preseason lessons, at the end of the day it comes back to individual ability and the results are limited by that.

The approach I take is that I want them to take as many shots on goal (at training, in game sims, game itself) as they can early in the (pre)season. It's ok to miss, as long as they're tuning in as much as possible to the detail of what's happening in the process, so they can build an internal awareness of their technique and get a sense of fine honing and adjustment. The coaches should be reviewing with them what happened with each shot, both the ones that go through and the ones that miss, to gauge their awareness and help them refine their particular technique.

I still think the wheel will turn faster the more shots we get on goal, and we get plenty.

We are definitely contending for finals.

We are also in the process of revamping our forward line and Taberner and Sturt are key to that, with Erasmus a possible addition as well.

A debut from Amiss is also not out of the question.

Seriously I went back and edited it because I could feel the death stare?
First the injury jinx, and now this?

Further proof the snuff is a Jedi. Sith Lord?

A few things from Sundays game from my point of view. I know some will differ , so feel free to make comment.
Good to see that Clark and Brodie slotted in easily into the side. Both good acquisitions.
A win is a win is a win. Regardless. A case where one point gained us four vital ones.
Yes we should have kicked better. Again 17 behinds is far too many. Maybe a couple of forced ones, But still should be better.
As big a problem that no one seems to mention is the fact that we have far too many quarters where we go goalless. A problem that needs fixing.
The boys went to Hawaii in the third quarter. Not good.
Good signs... Brayshaw, Serong, Meek, Mundy,Chapman.
Some worries... Walters was out of sorts. Frederick and Henry need to keep themselves in the game longer and more often.
Full marks to Chappy for that match winning spoil, Great football nous.
Looking for an improved outing this week at home.

Looking at the free kick count Does anybody know why eleni hates the freo Dockers so much like she screwed us in the Carlton game last season and everytime she has us it's a shocking free kick count

She is just a horror show of an umpire.

My 2c worth.
I think Treacy's goal before half time cancelled out his miss, and Freddy's GOTY contender out of mid air was balanced by Banfield's horrid shank.
Yes, we should get the gettable goals but we also get some low percentage ones as well.

Our expected score was approx 98; so if Treacy and Banfield kick their goals that brings us pretty even.

We've got a few bad kicks for goal, however I think our shot quality also isn't the best. Be good to see a map of our shots on goal versus the Crows.
