Yes I agree.

There is an undercurrent in the debate on here about whether we should be in development of contention mode. Of course it isn't as black and white as that.

However in our forward line without a doubt we need to be in the mode of scoring more. We will live or die by that. For me that would drive decisions for the make up of our front 6, especially with Taberner and Sturt down, and Amiss not ready.
I'd think we've moved into finals mode, but still with some of the venn crossing into development, so managing a balance between the two. Ideally a baby bombers kind of thing.

There's scoring more and scoring more than the opposition. Skinning a cat comes as a multiple-choice test. More modern thinking will lean into keeping the ball in your forward half longer to allow for more scoring opportunities and restricting opportunities of your opponent. Thus the super-fit role player can be part of that mix.

Just like we have also loaded up with super-attacking players coming off the half-back who can quickly transition the ball from defence into attack.

The game plan will be in place and not likely to change in the short term. Changes are more likely to be in the finer details of the pieces who can fit the puzzle.

If the ball is dropped by a player then they must have had it in possession. If they have it in possession when the tackle is started and then it is dropped while the tackle is being executed (one motion) then it can't be holding the man. We don't need more rules, just proper interpretation of the existing ones.
Hi i don't usually post very much on big footy but enjoy reading every ones comments and views every night as a die hard docker supporter .
With regards to the holding the ball rule in my view it would be a lot simpler with no grey areas if you decide to grab the ball you need to dispose of it by hand pass or kick or your gone and you can always take the option of just knocking the ball out to a team mate in the clear if you are under the pump and you feel you cant take possession and dispose of it correctly .....no prior this and prior that.

So we'll encourage a lot more tapping on and sweating off?

And a lot less ball ups created by tackles that end in a stalemate because player didn't have prior opportunity
Possibly a lot more scrappiness too, so maybe not really adding to the watchability of the game. Obviously need to see it in action before any calls on it.

So do you see the end goal is to increase the simplicity for umpires? Or the watchability of the game?

Mundy is quality still but I dont think he can physically impose himself at the contest anymore. Fyfe cant seem to stay on the park for extended periods of time.

Hmmm, unless I'm misinterpreting, you're suggesting he's weaker in strength than he was earlier in his career? Or that other factors like being slower, more tired is preventing him from imposing?

I mostly think it's bollocks cos I look at myself and know I'm much stronger at 39 than my 25 year old self. I think Mundy would still be one of the stronger guys out in the middle most days. I think his hands are nearly as quick too. He's never been the quickest and to my eyes he still lopes as fast as he ever has.

Both.... umpires no grey areas... watchable less stoppages as the ball will continue to be on the move like you say would need to be seen in action first

On replay, I think anyone thinking Treacy was "garbage" is being pretty harsh or has way too high an expectation for a 2nd KPF.

Treacy should have kicked two goals, apart from that, he lost maybe one contest the whole game (due to a questionable free kick) but otherwise halved every aerial contest. He did his job.

The game we got from him on the weekend is just about what we are going to get every week for the next 4+ years
Nicely said and true. Annoys me to see those negative reactions too. I saw him running hard, landing hard tackles and had one plus an easy miss, which is forgivable at this stage of his career. His intent is off the charts and does essentially guarantee his "bad" games are gonna be giving us strong defensive pressure, bone crunching tackling at minimum. Tick!

I think it's pretty shaky on the watchability front as I say I think there could be an increase in scrappy play. The simplicity may be a better bet, but we're probably already seeing players gaming the tightening of the HTB interp.

If they could increase the simplicity of prior opp for umpiring, would that do?

I love that everyone is talking about our weak midfield when we literally went in a man short, naming 8 backs instead of the usual 7, initially I thought this was so we could swing Cox forward, but that never occurred, also Switowski was named as a midfielder and in the last qtr he showed everyone why, he was electric.
With talk in recent times about how players with explosive pace tend to break down earlier in their careers. Do we expect a bloke like Switta to have a short shelf life, especially with the time already spent injured? Can we trust his longevity?

I at least hope for a handful of mostly injury free years, during our window, fingers crossed, but if he falls over again, should we persist?

He is of course just one of 40 odd and considering what he's shown, he's obviously impactful. It's probably worth the list spot though I'd be inclined to search out another explosive small forward with intent, considering what I feel is the likelihood Switta will always be an injury risk.

Joel Western is waiting in the wings

Pure strength maybe he could very well be as strong or stronger than ever, but in terms of explosiveness, agility, repeat efforts etc I have no doubt he's declined. We wont see a mundy performance like the 2013 gf from him ever again. He dominated that centre square against a smaller hawks midfield. He's still class though.

Maybe Radelaide aren’t as bad as we thought they were….

They've brought a few great players in and have some old decent players coming back. They're definitely better than people are giving credit for. St Kilda on the other hand, are shithouse.
