Surely a development pathway at a lower level, then umpiring pre-season stuff should work? Why still so bad ?
Oh wait - Dean Margetts was still decidedly average after 20 odd years .
Still curious at to how much seconds she umpired prior .

You and I had some discussion about this, and you were spot on with your opinion about him.Don't make me sad, I always wanted him. He is a bit of a flight risk though.
Yeah, I think in 2-3 years time we'll be very happy with our trio indeed.100%. Plenty rated him higher than Erasmus, including me. We'd have been crazy to pass. I thought pre-draft he could win the Rising Star this year (over JHF and Daicos who I rate immensely). My reasoning was that Rachele is (and always has been) a game winner, as he almost proved on debut against us.
But it was never likely he'd last to us, so I'm more than happy with the WA trio despite none of them impacting so immediately.
Agree. Our midfield depth seems shallow because we are incredibly tight on who gets rotated through. You can name as many players as you want who could but we rarely if ever push more than 4-5 through the CBAs. Unless JLo gives some more opportunities I’m not sure how you can argue it’s deep.
The goalless quarters.. been happening probably since the club’s inception. Hell the 2013 GF.A few things from Sundays game from my point of view. I know some will differ , so feel free to make comment.
Good to see that Clark and Brodie slotted in easily into the side. Both good acquisitions.
A win is a win is a win. Regardless. A case where one point gained us four vital ones.
Yes we should have kicked better. Again 17 behinds is far too many. Maybe a couple of forced ones, But still should be better.
As big a problem that no one seems to mention is the fact that we have far too many quarters where we go goalless. A problem that needs fixing.
The boys went to Hawaii in the third quarter. Not good.
Good signs... Brayshaw, Serong, Meek, Mundy,Chapman.
Some worries... Walters was out of sorts. Frederick and Henry need to keep themselves in the game longer and more often.
Full marks to Chappy for that match winning spoil, Great football nous.
Looking for an improved outing this week at home.
The kid is from Vic Country. They tend to stay loyal.Don't make me sad, I always wanted him. He is a bit of a flight risk though.
Yeah, absolutely. Players like Erasmus become invaluable. We need the players who will not be in the bounces to be useful in that other position though.
Coaching is too conservative, look at the Blues, Crazy Vossy wasn't ready at the Lions, should of done an apprenticeship. But now has found theYeah, absolutely. Players like Erasmus become invaluable.
Switta is the only other one I think we have who can go forward or back, and then have small runs through the midfield. It is a big weakness in our list.
Serong had strong jnr numbers as a small forward and was highly rated in that area. He can push forward more, Mundy can play pretty much anywhere on the ground and Fyfe we know can play FF. It’s really only Brayshaw that is that mid only type player and given he’s elite that’s fine. Switta, Chapman, Tucker, Walters etc all these guys should be rotating through the middle to give the main crew a breather. We need the players who will not be in the bounces to be useful in that other position though.
Yeah time will tell, but with laser kicks, express speed, and a defensive backgroundIs the reluctance to run players though the midfield another example of Jlo conservatism?
He’s erring on the safe side when it comes to selecting kids ahead of fringe players quite a bit too in his time in charge especially early in the season.
This is true. I remember thinking there's no way walker was ready when he was named to debut. He was plenty ready. You’d like to think players like NOD and Walker will be getting more game time soon. I’m convinced that if we had not had a massive injury list last year Walker would still be waiting to debut. We would be all on here speculating is this guy any good or what, and know nothing about him at AFL level. He comes in because Jlo is pretty much forced to select him and amazingly - looks great at the level.
Is Erasmus that much worse than Banfield at this present moment in time? If he’s truly worthy of the pick 10 we paid for him, he will have bypassed and exceeded Banfields contribution by his 5th game. He might be equal or slightly lesser to Banfield contribution for his first maybe 4 games.
is it a list weakness or a development weakness?Yeah, absolutely. Players like Erasmus become invaluable.

Yes. We gave up 6 goals to zero in a quarter where we lost control of the midfield.Switta, Chapman, Tucker, Walters etc all these guys should be rotating through the middle to give the main crew a breather.
It's probably Josh Carr's call, he is the midfield coach after all, I wonder if we see more rotations this week. Hopefully JL had a word to him about it.Is the reluctance to run players though the midfield another example of Jlo conservatism?

Well it's getting that balance right, we want to be contending right? If we add all these guys at the expense of experienced but lower impact players we will soon look like a developing team. You have to remember we have many players under 50 games and not many players over 100 games, so what happens if we start playing more under 20 gamers in place of 50-100 game players? You’d like to think players like NOD and Walker will be getting more game time soon. No way. Longmuir is the senior coach and should be implementing what he and Carr have confirmed as their midfield strategy, but it is Longmuir's call. It's probably Josh Carr's call, he is the midfield coach after all, I wonder if we see more rotations this week. Aren't we discussing players like Banfield and Henry. Not replacing 50-100 gamers.Well it's getting that balance right, we want to be contending right? Yeah just throwing up some food for thought, I've also heard Walters should be dropped, Banfield is 24 with 39 afl games and a ton of wafl league games vs Erasmus with 1 wafl league pre-season match.Aren't we discussing players like Banfield and Henry. Not replacing 50-100 gamers.
Personally I would do Henry for Aish/Colyer/Crowden and Banfield for Erasmus and think we are stronger.

Yes I agree. For the coach and their strategic planning, it's the role that needs to be filled too. So it's not necessarily a simple matter of equating Erasmus for Banfield, but is it manageable to have Erasmus be in that defensive forward role? And if not him, then who (and how do other roles/players shuffle over)?
Good signs but it's all going to be undone if we capitulate at home against the Saints who need to turn things around from their weak as piss effort last week.
Simply need to bring it on the weekend and start to build some momentum even without all of Fyfe, Tabs and Mundy.
