I was fortunate enough to meet him years later. I told him the story, and he politely said, “yes, I think I recall the letter”...

No way he ever saw it. But I’m taking the credit anyway.

By the way, I could’ve saved myself a lot of trouble and just written “show up”.

True story. Mum and I were driving into the ground that day as Richo was walking with Brad Pearce. We wished Brad luck and Richo straight as you like says "No luck needed, you've got this."

It was inevitable.

Well one thing is for sure. I will still love Carlton tomorrow. I understand the frustrations of posters at the current … lets call it "situation". Not ideal, but not insurmountable. We have been coming from a long way back.

Had to trade out the few "market value/saleable" commodities we had to bring the list age back into a banding of 2-4 years apart so they can grow together.

Was always going to be a tough year. 10 rounds in … some are trying to jump off the bandwagon, fair enough I suppose, I can understand the concept of ranting and shouting at clouds for tumultuous change. Finger pointing and pitchfork riots ..... Coaches, board, umpires, AFL …..

We have been done this road before. Never ends well.

carlton2dabone I enjoy your passion. I understand your frustration. If you really think the "Clique" lol ….. Azza and Imperial Lather DO NOT bleed blue blood … you are sorely mistaken.

Chin up fellow, we will climb from the depths.

Gotta get this mob to 100 game together or there abouts to make a footy team.

THIS IS ONLY MY OPNION.
We need more of your opnions.........:p

You said this year is about development. Then you said 4-6 wins would be nice but injuries are key.

Sorry but when you say development and wins would be nice but something else is more important that’s a pretty clear indication to me that you don’t think wins matter this year.

Right now this season is a complete and utter failure considering the Stocker trade and the lack of improvement seen in many of the youngsters.

Certainly felt like the 24.5% that missed the target went straight to St Kilda players in attacking positions though.

Statistically, we weren't terrible with the ball, but when we got it wrong we got it all the way wrong.
That's pretty much it. When the boys stuffed up, they stuffed up in the wrong part of the ground and it hurt. Hey Wickzki, does Champion data do a stat on scores from turnovers for yesterday?

Dow won't be dropped, nor should he be. He bursts out of packs like juddy. Just needs to improve his confidence and kicking

Messenger I could hit more targets than Dow on game day.

Don’t give me this “ball doesn’t touch the ground at training” shit

Yeh it's a worry. I like what I see from him though

He actually has a balance issue and also composure. Physical composure that is. He doesn't get balanced and kick right

When a guy gives everything to get the ball but doesnt quite have the strength to hang on to it and or have full control in the disposal element yet. At 19 and nowhere near his playing weight to come. When he misses a sitter near the end you just know he has nothing left in the tank. Dow will be a beauty. His kicking willl come as his strength and stamina increases. So you have to look at what he will be and not what he is right now.

This...

When the kids click Carlton looks top4 and scary ( only seen it for 2 quarters in any game really Hawthorn and Collingwood )- but too often they fail at the give off or finish stage of play - they just have to keep playing and keep learning - time. Dow kicks his set shot in front of goal and everyone's confidence lifts including his own. SPS pulls off a couple of his centering kicks and his confidence lifts...it is a chicken and egg thing this development caper - miss the A grade play and you look like a hack....get it right and you are a hero...

They have to be more mentally strong.

As soon as one thing doesn't go our way, the whole team loses focus.

Obviously not every game, and I hate to bring Dow up again, but his lackluster effort that lead to a goal was a real momentum shifter. It was like we started the game with this intent to smash this mob to pieces, then an effort like that creeps in and the rest of them start to follow.

A key mistake imo that not only Bolton is making, but Ratts and Malthouse did too was they are too lenient on the more highly regarded players.

I think if we are going to take a real stand we need to drop Dow, Fisher and SPS this week. The three of them really let themselves down big time. Bring in Setterfield and LOB, give Stocker more mid time. You can only make them realise that they need to earn their spot by taking it away from them when they don't perform.

Isn't that why we brought in Greg Williams to work with him?
He has more positives than negatives. Remember Dow had an interrupted preseason and he will get better as he gets fitter and stronger.

Wasn't that the same excuse people were throwing around for SPS in his 1st 2 years.

No interrupted pre season for him this year and he's still not delivering...

Dow needs to work on his kicking big time. Don't worry about strength and fitness, the main thing that is killing us is he can't hit a target.

Maybe there should be a decision making stat how do you think we would fare there ?
Actually quite staggered anybody would take the side of stats over the eye test of yesterday's game .
Considering the number of kids with less than 50 games we are playing, do you wonder at times about the decision making!

Its a good post, i agree with all of it, off field i think we are doing very well. I still think we should be better than 1 win and hopefully we start to win a few games soon to ease the pressure. Im not so confident though, unless we start dishing out performances like the Roos and Giants on a weekly basis, Bolton should coach out the year.

After that, there should be a review and serious discussion about if he is the right man to take us forward. I feel the effort is there, being in games for longer, despite losing, is a very good thing.

Players seemingly not learning from their mistakes during games and week to week is concerning, so is the poor forward line structure and delivery. Hopefully it improves, as if we can get some confidence within the group, i feel we can win 5 or 6 games.
