My tips for this week all home teams to win (hopefully for me)
I'll take a pick 5, 1-39 points.

Whilst there is plenty of interest in all games - the major game is Sunbury Vs Diggers. Based on the draw, the loser of this game may really struggle. Some of the first round easybeats, aren't that anymore.

i think 1st Vs 2nd and a grand final rematch / preview takes preference over 3rd Vs 5th...

sunbury diggers will be good, but i cant wait for riddell V woodend...i think the last 4 results have gone woodend, riddell, woodend, riddell...

No doubt 1 Vs 2 will be a great match - perhaps best for the season, but it will have next to no impact on the ladder positions (they are too far clear of the rest). 3 Vs 5 is significant and both sides are down a bit at the moment. Big match in the Bigger picture.

Five reasons you should get tomorrow's Free Press.

1. Find out why Matt Robertson is considering legal action against Kilmore FC.
2. Read about the wonderful All-Star match.
3. Learn if the Tigers really are considering flying in their interstate stars.
4. Further information regarding the RDFL's interleague match.
5. Previews of the big games this weekend.

Ultimately isn’t the bigger picture who wins the grand final, not whether Diggers or Sunbury finish 3rd

i'm not disagreeing with you, but unless something major happens, they will finish one or two. I'm not talking about third, I'm talking about finishing in the six. I reckon the loser of Diggers /Sunbury may not make the six!

What do you reckon Matt?

I'm personally more interested in the Riddell v Woodend-Hesket match, simply because I think if the Bombers can be beaten at all this season, the Hawks are the only side capable. But all the game will be crackers. The Kangaroos will definitely make the six in my opinion, but if Diggers Rest lose they could tumble. I'm expecting both to make it though.

My tips for this week are:
Riddell by 32 points.
Sunbury Kangaroos by 16 points.
Rockbank by 4 points.
Melton Central by 27 points.
Lancefield by 9 points.

The Hawks have too many out to win - the only chance Hawks have is in the finals, if they get some of their big names back.

So which match will the Free Press be at pal ?

Pickles, out of last weeks east/west game, which players from the league will miss this weekends round. Which players will miss from injuries and will any teams boost their stocks for this weekend?

Try this for size Matt:

Riddell’s Riddle
Reading this forum and seeing them in action, there is no doubt Riddell are the super team of the comp, I repeat – NO DOUBT. But I think they may have a problem.

Accepting that most teams really don’t believe they can beat Riddell, will they field there fittest sides against them? Normally teams will carry 10% - 20% of players with some sort of injury, but believe they need those players to get the 4 points – a risk they are willing to take. Not having a chance to get the 4 points (against Riddell) do you rest all your slightly injured players so that you have them fit for the next game, when you really do have a chance at 4 points?

Have a look what happened when Kilmore played Riddell. Robbo was out, they dropped/rested players, gave some kids a chance. Played normal footy and got pumped in the first half, choked the second half and only had a handful of goals scored against them. Is there a lesson to be learnt here? When teams play Riddell they will now be looking to protect their percentage, and with the comp as tight as it is from 3 down, a good percentage is worth 4 points. Teams will try to minimise how much they lose by when playing Riddell and if they don’t, they are taking a bigger risk – because the others will. Remember only 3 teams have a positive percentage and one of those is Macedon, which has a draw (2 points) and therefore percentage is not so important. For the rest percentage is going to be paramount.

I think going forward Riddell are not going to get the free flowing games against the best the opposition sides can offer, and this may stifle their finals preparation. However a team like Woodend, which is carrying a few injuries, are seen as beatable and teams are peaking for them – a win against Woodend would be a big differentiator in making the top 6. Woodend will go into the finals well rehearsed, Riddell – I’m not so sure.

Conspiracy theory maybe, but I’m sure opposition coaches are starting to do the maths!!!

Will Woodend play injured players this week or will they be happy to let Riddell think they can comfortably account for them and keep their best for last? What happened last year again?

The fact that you're thinking it means that Riddell is probably already thinking about it.

So you think they are smarter and quicker than me!:D you're probably right.

I noticed you didn't disagree. If it eventuates, I would like to know what they are going to do about it. You can't make the opposition play their best players and you can't stop them flooding - many AFL coaches have tried and failed! Riddell's forward line is structured around giving thier key forwards plenty of space with low, flat delivery to leading forwards. Very hard to do that with 18 players hanging around!

Another 5 reasons would be these features found inside....
1) Discover Danny Sipthorps nude techno dancing secrets for Woodend pubs
2) Riddell football club will name the 10 most common items that Lee james has wacked up his date at club functions
3) Melton Centrals reveals that unlike its community image it does not support Heroin use by SENIOR players
4) Diggers Rest formal bid to the RDFL for a mid-week grand final this September
5) Kangaroos attempts to lure Gilbert McAdam, Chris Lewis and Dean Rioli to the club before clearances closed were to no avail due to undisclosed reasons- the trio sent back a email to the club simply saying SORRY!

All this and more in tomorrows free press

:eek::eek:strange thing are afoot in the rdfl

Went to see the grand final preview today - very dissapointed - well I know what I'll be doing the second last Sunday in September - stayin home. Or is it that Woodend were just trying to get better odds from Pickles.

Woodend had a few Guns out ie - Ng, Sipthorp, Lacy & Stacey.
I'm sure theyll get better come Finals time, plus Riddell were pretty much at full strength.
