Remember that one as a kid, got the community bus from town and came to Perth for the Coke factory, sit down lunch at Pizza Hut after - what a day.

Excursions are basically a thing of the past now given you need a teacher for every 10 kids. It’s basically impossible, so the kids miss out.

They get to enjoy incursions instead and stay protected from the scary outside world.

My kids go on excursions all the time - Scitech, zoo and other animal rescue places - if needed they just ask for parental help. They have a lot of incursions too but that's probably more of a money saver - can have the whole school take part in an activity on site in a single day without the need for transport and extra supervision.

Oh gawd, the embarrassment of having your parents come along on excursions. I’m having flashbacks now.

I refuse to coz I know I'll lose my temper at someone else's kid.

We went to a brewery for a Yr 11 excursion once. Can't remember what subject that was.

How good was that!? The smell 😋 Can't remember which one it was, though. Or yeah, the subject..

Also went to Coke. Unfortunately also went to that Waste Water treatment plant around Woodman Point. That was ****ed. Walking around looking at shit water.

We visited an ice cream factory when I was in school, can't remember if it was Peters/Pauls/Streets but I don't think they are still around in Perth any more

Edit: Mr Eagle might have solved that mystery, yet again

Nah, just picked up an empty Coke can from the side of the road and carried it to the nearest bin while walking the dog. Just as educational as the real tour.

Also did Peters Ice Cream factory, that had fewer free samples though.

Pretty sure we did the Swan brewery, Brownes in Balcatta. Coke factory.

I presume the companies did them free of charge so it was attractive to public school budgets.

That and to get into the kids minds early to ensure a lifelong subliminal need to purchase their products.

Cheap excursion for the public schools, and legal advertising to minors for the brewery. Everyone's a winner.

Pretty sure you’ve brewed a stout with fruit in it? Or was that a different beer?

Stouts I've done with vanilla, coffee and hazlenut. Bunch of other beers with mangoes, mandarins, strawberries, guava, stone fruits, grapefruit - which really fruits in beer sounds so much worse than in desserts!
