I just watched a story on this, apparently it was partly because of the fossil fuel thing and partly because of some racist comments Lang made back in 1984.
I mean geez, if you're going back that far to find a reason to not like a sponsor you're bound to find something along the way. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.
I reckon these players are about to find out that there's not much sponsorship money coming from businesses who have a spotless environmental, social and ethical record.

Fair enough anyone is allowed to voice an opinion. But there are consequences for doing so.

Some sports are in a position where sponsors and money are plentiful, while some are not. If you're gonna take a stand in a sport where money is scarce, it had better be for a damn good reason. Pick your fights.

Also, any individual voicing an opinion and taking certain stands better be sure their actions - past, present and future - stand up to scrutiny, lest they be seen as hypocritical.
