1. Hill
2. Hannebery
3. Rich
4. Anthony
5. Ziebell
6. Hurley
7. Sidebottom
8. Beams
9. Naitanui
10. Hartlett
11. Ballantyne
12. Bennell

Bennell isn't a patch on Yarran who is nearly my favourite player.

Yarran played up the ground in the second half of the Fremantle game and smashed it with his incredibly clean disposal.

More effective and damaging than the equally pacy Hill in that match.

The one touch pick up of a difficult grubber and pass across his body to Thornton out of the corner of his eye is pure smarts.

Yarran will be more damaging than Marc Murphy after he's played 50 to hundred games.

Murphy doesn't have the strength to bowl over McPhee and then break a Pavlich tackle to get it out.

Yarran is a bull like Shaun Burgoyne and always holds his feet.

Better overhead than Hill.
You must understand that some players were overlooked by teams at they would not fit in to the team structure well. Drafting is not done on what player is the best but it is done by what your team needs...... Well not if your Carlton that is.
Unless they're hard to split, drafting the best available player early is the better move.

Draft for need with later picks.

Picking Hampson for need and passing on Jetta will pay off for Carlton.

We would have shot ourselves in the foot if we had have passed on Gibbs for a KPP or ruck.

Yarran's last game in the VFL saw him torn inside out by a NSW Scholarship player who is 17. He's about as close to the Top 10 as Chris Judd is to an appointment with the MRP.

I like the fact that someone (Brad Roo) is recognising Bennell's talent but I wouldn't have him higher than maybe 20/25 so he was only a slight bargain.

When you guys give your lists, can you please say on what basis it is? In my opinion there are 3 ways to do it:

1) Completely use it as a ranking of their output in the first year and a half
2) Imagine you were picking the players again based on who you think will be the best player
3) Imagine each team was picking the players again based on their needs, ie Melbourne would probably require a key position player even though there are arguments for smaller blokes like Rich, Hill and Sidebottom

I think people are doing largely (2) and a bit of (1). I reckon (3) is the most important one because if you did the draft again, Melbourne would still take Watts or maybe Hurley. Rich and Hill are guns but we need key position players more.

Yarran will American History SeX the AFL when he hits 21 or has 100 games under his belt.

Only the talls picked before Yarran could be more damaging.

Yet Yarran has fewer flaws than Hurley who isn't super quick and agile.

Or a monster and great overhead mark like Kernahan.

Classier skills and more upside than Hill.

Everyone else was falling over on that beach they call Etihad's surface, yet Yarran held his feet and just skooted away from them.

Rarely goes to ground.

General you seem to have a touch of Hill envy. Would I suggest that you take a panadol and lie down. If you keep up with this mutterings they may institutionalise you.

I like Yarran and who knows he may even stay at the Blues next year. He is not Hill and will not be as good as Hill. Nice to feel like you have someone who might be similar to Hill though, isn't it:thumbsu:

BTW Hampson will be as useful as Warnock for the Blues.

TG does get a little excited about the Carlton players. Yarran and Hill are two different players, both very highly talented and I would be happy with either player.

It is also great that you're judging two young ruckman nice and early, you may have some memory loss as to how Sandilands looked in the early days.

Yeah we gathered that somehow . . . the rest of your post here is pretty amusing. Yarran will this, Yarran is that . . .

I don't have him in my Top 10 just yet . . . will need to show a bit more. Currently averageing 10 touches a game.

This pretty much represents your usual rubbish.

Protest dismissed.

I find it odd how everyone slots Hurley into their top 10 almost by reflex.
He will be a player no doubt, but to suggest he has been the second or third most valuable player to date, is just bluntly incorrect.

Beams has shown many up, considering where he came from, but surely Hill has been the best performed player and the one showing most promise to date.

Yarran a close second naturally
:)

Any of the Watts doubters just need to watch this:

It may be all we have to watch in 10 years time. :D
Archive it now.

Tarquin I guess that statement will really fall back to how well Warnock comes on;)

How is it odd? You do realise Hurley is 20 years old with 20 games under his belt? Not 23 with 80. He's been leading our forward line along with Gumbleton as our two primary KPFs he doesn't play in an easy position, he generally gets the best/2nd best defender - he's kicked 4 goals three times in his short career - His stats measure up against the likes of Brown, Riewoldt (N) and Pav at the same level of experience - I don't know how much more he could be doing as a second year KPP?

G'day Hodge. I've been away for a while...

But Hill is #1.

Yeah Hill's my No.1 now too. Already a consistent midfield player with silky skills. Will improve his output with time.

How's Schoenmakers going? Seriously.

Stratton looks good.

Schoen doesn't get the raps that he deserves imo. 2nd year player and already doing his job every week on a key forward.

Stratton's a handy pickup. Might be able to take the key forwards if he bulks up over the years but for now is good on a 3rd tall or small forward.
