McDonald isn't best 22, but yeah, shows that team defence is more important than who's in your back 6.
Yes, my bad. Because I keep forgetting big bloody Sean is missing and was thinking of the Round 1 team and that they'd both probably be in if not injured. Horrible for Mac what happened, but conversely opened the door for Draper's debut and he's been so impressive in just 2 appearances. It's great to be building a list that has so much potential depth & coverage and come season's end I'm sad to think the club will have to delist some players because there's barely anyone on it I don't like at present, even those set to debut. And it's age range is still so young, pretty mental......

Our game wasn't shown on FTA in Melbourne and all media reports suggest it wasn't worth watching. Hopefully, the Carlton mob are complacent and doesn't know who they are up against (Clark, Young, and Sharp). They will be focused on Brayshaw, Serong, Fyfe and Amiss, but wont be prepared for Treacy. They wont see Fyfe as a threat.
Having watched it . It was a dreary game full of mistakes and errors . Unless you a Fremantle fan you were never really going to enjoy that game

Some more reasons for optimism:

  • First ever home game for J-Lo in Round 1! What a difference not having to travel as much in the first 3 rounds has made. First time in 5 seasons - f*** you AFL, you corrupt malice-lickers
  • J-Lo's first ever 3-0 start to a season. Only the 3rd time in Fremantle's illustrious history it's been achieved
  • So far to debut in 2024: McDonald; Sharp; Draper. None of them have tasted defeat in Fremantle colours as of Round 3
  • Banfield has kicked a minimum of 1 goal in all 3 of the opening 3 rounds, something he's never done before.
  • Michael Walters still got it. Fyfe, maybe it's dialled down - but never lost it
  • Yet to debut in 2024: Cooper Simpson; Hugh Davies; Liam Reidy; Jack Delean; Odin Jones; Ollie Murphy; Patrick Voss; Conrad Williams; Max Knobel; Sebit Kuek (here's hoping he isn't cut before a debut chance). Young, VERY young and very hungry players eager to make their mark. Some probably won't make it, but it's quite an exciting crop
  • Players not currently in the 22 but available: Sam Sturt; Will Brodie; Neil Erasmus; then Karl Worner, Ethan Stanley, Heath Chapman & Nathan O'Driscoll (all just back from injury/concussion)
  • Sean Darcy likely ready to go for Port in Round 5. Boarded the plane (touch down in the middle of the pouring rain...)
  • WA weather been good lately, even down here in Albany
  • West Coast. Pwhahahaha

True, but we had ridiculously short breaks. They also had to deal with DSL, which ends this weekend, when they played North.

Your bullet point 5 is worth commenting on.
When Peter Bell extended both Michael Walters and Nat Fyfe for two years I wasn’t ecstatic ; I thought one + one
would be more appropriate.
The way these two veterans are playing right now there’s quite possibly two more years after this season.

For what its worth Ive been told by someone who works with a Dockers board member that the Dockers chose to extend the contracts of Fyfe and Walters for two years (rather than 1) due to the afl offering to pay part of their salaries outside of the Dockers cap as part of their club promotion budget. For anyone not aware the clubs promotion budget is basically a bullshit way for the AFL to help Gold Coast and GWS in that they can offer clubs different amounts in terms of promotional needs. In WA apparently the afl wanted to keep Fyfe playing at least a year longer because (this is what I was told no lie) with Naitanui retiring they were worried about the promotion of the game in WA. There's a very good chance the afl would be paying around 40% of both Walters and Fyfe salary and that's after Fyfe took a massive pay cut from his previous contract.

Our salary cap is believed to be in tremendous shape according to my friend and that's also due to how we've front loaded many contracts after we made the space to recruit Angus Brayshaw and Luke Jackson but didnt land Brayshaw.

Another very small factor that has allowed extra space in our cap in recent times (thus also allowing us to frontload contracts) is that we have constantly played with a list that has the maximum number of rookie allocations.

One of the most underrated AFL players ever. Was so clean and composed. I wish we got another hundred games from him. Genius player.
I've recalled this memory before, under a different alias, but the people at the AFL store in Garden City Booragoon told me that my son's footy jumper was the first one they put Roger's number on.
Another reason to be proud of my son :)

I reckon the end will come for both pretty quickly though. It will be a "one day wake up and all of a sudden not have it anymore" situation.

You got it FG
In my recent short sojourn in Lilliput it was a shock to see they don't rate players such as Clark, Young and Sharp.
I guess for a start they just don't see much of wa players but they also starstruck and always looking for messiahs, both on and off field.
They underrate Ryan.
And oh, by the way, the general of the meanest defence in the comp!
I don't think they know what to make of Treacy.
As for Fyfe, if they ever knew how good he is, they've forgotten!
When it comes to Dogga, everyone underestimates the Unicorn, not their fault.
YOKAI!

If this is true watch West Coast pay Reid $1.5m per year in 2027 with 3/4 of it outside the salary cap.

Good start here. Lot's to be pleased with. Won the first quarter, and still have a few players who can work their way into the game from here. If we can match it with them in the middle from here we are in with a shot.

We’ve outplayed our opponents in 4/4 games for a 3-1 record. We’re looking pretty good.

Yeah I’m going to try not to spend too much time on the other threads cos it’ll all be rage and fire and brimstone. We were the better side today. Shouldn’t have lost but you can’t win them all. The optimist in me says we’re doing fine and sometimes you need to lose one to learn some lessons.
Onwards and upwards.

Carlton are probably second or third in line for flag favouritism so we know we can go toe-to-toe with the big boys. The manner of the loss (and the opponent) hurts like hell but we're clearly trending in the right direction. We win that by 3-4 goals at Optus.

Big picture is that we look like a hardened, high pressure side and we’re 3-1. Lots to look forward to.
