I think Botha does at this point regardless

averages 32 with the Bat and 32 with the ball at FC level, not outstanding but as good as anyone else in the Redbacks team.
What were his Shield averages last season?

can't find them anywhere.

Didn't do that well at FC last year, ok in the shorter forms.

found them

averaged 16 with the bat (6th best  ) and took 15 wickets at a strike rate of 86.7 and econ of 2.5 (can't find average) - fourth best by wickets taken)

Practice games on up here in Brisbane; popped along to Redlands on Sunday to watch a bit of the match that ended in a tie and have been keeping an eye on Twitter today.

On Sunday, Miller looked handy with the ball as did Putland. For the Bulls, it was like a re-run of some of their games last year - came from the clouds at the end with the tail (Gale & Gannon) getting them to a tie.

Bulls won comfortably today, Qld 3-192 (Reardon 82, Forrest 70, Miller 2 wkts) d SA 191 (Botha 43, Ferguson 36, Cooper 33 Ross 32, Head 26; Gale 3-33, Sabburg 3-40, Feldman 2-17, Boyce 1-39).

Teams are being mixed up to give everyone a go; Bulls have been using the matches to give some of their Heat players from outside the squad a game.

Think both the QC & SACA websites are posting updates if you need more.

Qld make it two wins in a row to go with the tie in their three-game practice series at Peter Burge Oval at Redlands; Bulls 9-247 (Ben McDermott 66, Chris Sabburg 51 no) d SA 192 (Callum Ferguson 74; Alister McDermott 3-47, Ben Cutting 2-35).

Young McDermott (Aust U19s) & Sabburg (who is off to India with the Heat next week for Champions League) took the Bulls from 4-44 to 5-180 odd I gather to change the momentum. Mennie bowled well according to Redbacks twitter feed.

SA were minus Klinger and Hughes of course; both teams would have got plenty out of the games; sounded like they were nice and competitive.

You would think Queensland would have a pretty strong squad across all formats if they can keep them on the field this season. SA sound as if they will be building on last year so should be heading in the right direction.

Both QC & SACA websites have been keeping up to date with reports too if you want a bit more.

G'day there! First time poster, long-time reader.

Does anyone know if Jake Haberfield stuck around in SA after being dropped? Didn't seem to get a fair go the last few years so wouldn't blame him if he's gone to try his luck elsewhere

I think Redbacks have no lost all of their warm up matches with Batting again the main issue.

I'm not sure if McDonald played any games either?

Isn't he in England?

Yeah McDonald and his brother were both in Darwin in August training with the Redbacks. SACA Premier League kicks off this weekend, interesting to see if they get on in Adelaide and how the lads will go in Darwin with the build up well on the way.

0/46 off 7 not a great start for Zampa. Cullen Bailey top scored with 80.

Cricket in SA facebook page has some live stuff during the day, NT Cricket' page also covers their matches. Redbacks went down to the NT on Wednesday.

Team list;

SA Redbacks: Klinger, Head, Ferguson, Miller, Ross, Brown, Ludeman, Richardson, Sayers, Zampa, Putland and Botha.

NT Strike: Taylor, Bell, Weatherald, B. McDonald, Dilley, T. Lanford, Francis, Robins, Reichstein, Drennan, Dalton, Ryan

Brent McDonald and Trent Lanford were lent to the NT. Jake Brown retired hurt with a broken finger from a Lanford short ball. SA made 8 for 234, starts from most, undone early by left arm spin before a solid partnership between Miller and Ludeman. SA were then all over NT early, Putland and Richardson doing the damage and at 5 for 40 odd looked a done deal. Dilley (50) and Robins then put a strong partnership together, Robins went on to make a match winning 100 off 80 balls following up from his quick fire 60 odd in the Sunday match against Western Grit.

is it too early to be getting excited about the prospects of Kelvin Smith?
Nope. I reckon he could settle in to the Shield top six later this season. Would be great to have two young locals (Head and Smith) alongside each other.
