With this over the top crackdown on dissent, I wonder if coaches will instruct defenders to let off some steam when an attacker takes a mark or gets a free kick in the goal square?

In the saints giants game there's been a few cases already of defenders biting their tongues so not to turn a 50/50 shot into a gimme. But it's going to be hard to stay cool for an entire match so you might as well release the pressure valve when the guy already has a gimme...

Gws basically dropped all their key forwards and left in himmelberg and playing their ruckman there as well.

Good old brander still couldn’t make the emergency list. We really made a mistake losing him for nothing.

Jeez that was ugly. Giants coach Leon Cameron is done. Giants are trying hard to take our early draft pick.

Saints are the second best team right now.
But they play goddamn awful footy, just like a rolling maul with everyone back - their forwards up in the back pocket FFS. I hate this type of football. I thought the 666 would fix it, but no.

The thing is it's only for the briefest of periods. It has helped because you do see players get a bit clearer from the centre bounce. But after 15 seconds it means nothing.

No one wants to see netball style zones introduced. It would be horrendous seeing two players have to stop to wait the ball to cross the 50 metre arc before they can touch it.

A rule that would reduce the amount of rolling mauls would require both teams to have at least four players in both 50m arcs for every ball up and throw in, one of whom must be in the goal square. Given a tackle to ball up is about 5 seconds and OOB to throw in is about 10 seconds, it would mean those four players couldn't stray more than about about 25 metres from the arcs otherwise they risk getting caught out and pinged for a free kick. I must admin I'm not a big fan of it mainly because I can see it being an absolute shit fight to enforce* ** but it would do more to ease congestion and the rolling mauls than anything they've introduced.

* There's also some technical things to iron such as who gets the free kicks if both teams only have two players in one of the arcs?

** The other thing that would look a bit stupid is blokes sprinting back to get inside the arc before the ball is thrown up. You see it every now and then currently when a fifth player gets caught in the centre square but that's about once in an entire round of footy. Seeing the same scenario occur several times each game is going to get pretty tedious from an aesthetic point of view.

Nice of Percy to remind the umpire to feed the chooks at the end if the second clip.
