An expected result. Brisbane just dont look good enough. They will end up like the Bulldogs from around 2010. Good enough for prelims but thats about it.
Not so sure about that - outplayed for 3 quarters away from home and lose by 2 and a half goals. If Cam Raynor can continue his form tonight and accelarate his development and Daniher can come back firing they may just time their run right this year. I reckon this was a good loss for Brisbane.

I think they finish higher than they should especially the last few years.

2019 they make the most of a soft draw, teams around them lose games they shouldn't and they finish 2nd.
2020 they make the most of the covid situation with most games towards the end of the season played in QLD.
2021 they make the most of the dogs shitting the bed and falling out of the top 4, and it still took the lions until the last minute against us to pinch 4th.

If Cameron actually made the most of the opportunities he got (like Bailey does) it would help. He looks like he just overthinks it too much

I don't get the melts over Freo playing well. They play an enjoyable brand to watch, far better than the Lyon era, so as an impartial it's much easier to watch being a neutral fan.

It's also handy to have a successful local team taking four points off the oppo. That means more to us when we're contending for top 4/8 also but stopping teams flying into WA to bank four points while avoiding us at the same time (Brisbane have done this for ages) is also good for West Coast.

Further to that, little brother's likely success turns the screws on us to rebound, and rebound fast. If that's the extra push we need to explore those last 5% of avenues, bring it on.

They're not my #1 team I'd enjoy to see win the flag this year but they're in the top 3 I reckon. And the other top 2 aren't based in Victoria.

Paint the cafe strip purple again for all I care, I'd cheer them on over likes of Hawthorn just as I did in 2013.

Get rid of Ross Lyon and voila
I hate to say it and I’ll need a hot shower, but kudos to Longmuir on such a quick and amazing turn around.

Now someone drown me.
They not only got rid of their crap coach, they changed a lot else as well.
After years of taking other clubs failures and castoffs (maybe a lesson there for the current WCE recruiting team? maybe? just maybe?) they've gone to the draft with a bunch of high picks and actually selected mostly well.
They've also lost a few good players but extracted excellent draft capital in return. I hate say it, but they've spent that capital really well.

Add in a couple of free NGA hits (another thing we are dismal at doing) and they are a fast (we are slow) and skilful (we are fumbly) and quite young team.

They are far from perfect (the tall forward setup is not as good as many others) but they have a pretty good balance and mix, both in team evenness and age spread.

Pains me, but they look like they'll be better than us for some time to come.

Definitely many aspects to their coming good but the fish always rots from the head. They play attractive footy now which is something I never thought I’d say.
I’ll never like em, but credit where it’s due, they look very very good and they’ve done the right things to get there including ditching a toxic coach.

And new CEO

Hopefully provides a good model for our club to copy.

They've still been taking role players from other clubs, it's just that it's working for them. James Aish, Will Brodie, Jordan Clark, Rory Lobb, Blake Acres..

It feels like in the AFL world the difference between 'failures and cast-offs' and 'crafty pickups of undervalued players' is just how well the team is playing.

I don't think you can purely draft you way to a flag, those pickups are key to fleshing out a list and filling gaps.

How’s Gold Coast’s contribution to the rebuild too:

Brayshaw, Brodie, Johnson for Weller and some salary space

A strong Freo is good for WA football. And like others have said, it's not like they're playing Lyon-ball either.

Still want them to not win the flag for as long as I live, though.
We NEED Freo to win a flag. A statement i know but they are the only other team in the state and we need them to be better to provide us with an impetus to get better.
We have no competition in Perth and we need our arses kicked to improve.

People barracking for Hawks in 2013 was insane to me
They have 7, yes 7 flags since we entered the comp - the only metric I care about
If Freo have a dynasty that’s when I’ll stop wanting them to win over even Brisbane (who have 3 to our 4)
They look good for maybe 2 flags this decade though, it might get hairy
